------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): 1 ridge in height = 2 rounds; Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. DECREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 192 stitches) and divide by the number of decreases to be made (e.g. 16) = 12. In this example decrease by knitting together each 11th and 12th stitch. CASTING-OFF TIP: To avoid the cast-off edge being tight you can cast off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as casting off; the yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- TOP – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round as far as the armholes, then the front and back pieces are finished separately, back and forth. The neck is worked back and forth to finish. BODY: Cast on 384-416-464-512-560-616 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm and DROPS Muskat. Knit 1 round, then work a flounced-edge as follows: * Knit 1, purl 3 *, work from *-* to the end of the round. Continue this rib for 2 cm. Now decrease all purl-3 to purl-2 by purling 2 together = 288-312-348-384-420-462 stitches. When the piece measures 3 cm, decrease every second purl-2 to purl-1 = 240-260-290-320-350-385 stitches. When the piece measures 4 cm, decrease the remaining purl-2 to purl-1 = 192-208-232-256-280-308 stitches. When the rib measures 6 cm, knit 1 round where you decrease 16-16-20-24-24-28 stitches evenly spaced – read DECREASE TIP = 176-192-212-232-256-280 stitches. Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Insert a marker at the beginning of the round (= mid-back). Continue with stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 28 cm, work as follows: Knit the first 33-36-39-43-47-52 stitches, work GARTER STITCH over the next 22-24-28-30-34-36 stitches – read description above, knit the next 66-72-78-86-94-104 stitches, work garter stitch over the next 22-24-28-30-34-36 stitches and knit the last 33-36-39-43-47-52 stitches. When you have worked 2 ridges over the 22-24-28-30-34-36 stitches in each side, work the next round as follows: Knit as far as the garter stitch, work 6-6-7-7-8-8 stitches in garter stitch (= half back piece), cast off the next 10-12-14-16-18-20 stitches for the armhole, work 6-6-7-7-8-8 stitches in garter stitch, knit as far as the garter stitch on the other side, work 6-6-7-7-8-8 stitches in garter stitch (= front piece), cast off 10-12-14-16-18-20 stitches for the armhole, work 6-6-7-7-8-8 stitches in garter stitch, knit to end of round (= half back piece). Cut the strand. The front and back pieces are finished separately. FRONT PIECE: = 78-84-92-100-110-120 stitches. Start from the wrong side to continue the garter stitch with knit. Work stocking stitch with 6-6-7-7-8-8 stitches in garter stitch on each side. On the first row from the right side start to decrease for the armholes as follows: Work 6-6-7-7-8-8 stitches in garter stitch, 3 stitches in stocking stitch, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 1 stitch decreased), work until there are 11-11-12-12-13-13 stitches left, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased), 3 stitches in stocking stitch and 6-6-7-7-8-8 stitches in garter stitch. Decrease like this every 2nd row 7-9-11-14-17-21 times and every 4th row 5-5-5-5-4-4 times. AT THE SAME TIME, when the piece measures 10-12-13-15-16-18 cm from the bottom of the armholes, place the middle 20-22-22-24-26-28 stitches on a thread for the neck and finish each shoulder/strap separately. Then cast off on each row from the neck as follows: 4-4-5-5-5-5 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 2-2-2-2-3-3 times = 7-7-8-8-9-9 stitches on the shoulder/strap. Continue back and forth with 6-6-7-7-8-8 stitches in garter stitch towards the armhole and 1 stitch in stocking stitch towards the neck until the piece measures 20-22-24-26-28-30 cm from the bottom of the armhole and 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm in total. Cast off. Work the other shoulder/strap in the same way. BACK PIECE: = 78-84-92-100-110-120 stitches. Start from the wrong side to continue the garter stitch with knit. Work stocking stitch with 6-6-7-7-8-8 stitches in garter stitch on each side and decrease for the armholes in the same way as the front piece. AT THE SAME TIME when the piece measures 2-4-5-7-8-10 cm from the bottom of the armholes, work garter stitch over the middle 8 stitches on the row. When you have worked 2 ridges over these stitches, divide the piece in the middle and finish each shoulder separately. Work stocking stitch with 6-6-7-7-8-8 stitches in garter stitch towards the armhole and 4 stitches in garter stitch towards the split (continue to decrease for the armhole). When all the decreases for the armhole are finished there are 27-28-30-31-34-35 stitches on the shoulder. Continue working until the piece measures 15-17-18-20-21-23 cm from the bottom of the armhole. On the next row from mid-back work as follows: Cast off the first 20-21-22-23-25-26 stitches, work 1 stitch in stocking stitch and 6-6-7-7-8-8 stitches in garter stitch. Continue back and forth until the piece measures 20-22-24-26-28-30 cm from the bottom of the armhole and 48-50-52-54-56-58 in total. Cast off. Work the other shoulder/strap in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the straps together inside the cast-off edge. NECK: Start from the right side, mid-back, with circular needle size 3 mm. Knit up 117-121-131-137-147-151 stitches (including the stitches from the thread) inside the cast-off edge and the 1 stitch in stocking stitch on the straps. Work as follows (first row is worked from the wrong side): 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * purl 1, knit 1 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, purl 1, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue this rib back and forth for 1½ cm. At the beginning of the next row from the right side work 1 buttonhole as follows: Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, knit 2 twisted together, make 1 yarn over, work to end of row. On the next row knit the yarn over to leave a hole. Continue the rib until the neck measures 3-3-3½-3½-3½-3½ cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – remember CASTING-OFF TIP. Sew the button onto the neck at the back. |
