Hola.

I am sorry if I am asking a question which should be very obvious. Is the A.1 pattern to be read from the top or from the bottom? It looks as though it should be from the bottom but then, why is it upside down? Sorry again, I am a complete novice.
20.06.2022 - 00:22DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Hudson, diagrams are read bottom up, read each row from the right towards the left - jumper is worked top down, so that the cable will be at the end of A.1, before the stocking stitch section, just as on the picture. Happy knitting!

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. Choose diagram for your size (applies to A.1). INCREASE TIP (evenly): To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 168 stitches) and divide stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 14) = 12. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after every 12th stitch. On next round work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP (applies to mid under sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked. CAST-OFF TIP: To avoid a tight cast-off edge when casting off, you may use a larger needle. If this still is too tight make 1 yarn over after approx. every 4th stitch while casting off (cast off yarn overs as stitches). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work neck edge and yoke in the round on circular needle from mid back, top down. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. Work the body in the round on circular needle. Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles/a short circular needle. NECK EDGE AND YOKE: Cast on 72-72-78-84-84-90 stitches on a short circular needle size 4 mm with 1 strand of each quality (= 2 strands). Work A.1 – choose diagram for your size (= 12-12-13-14-14-15 repetitions of 6 stitches in the round). When you have worked up to round with black star in diagram, switch to circular needle size 5.5 mm. Continue with the remaining rounds in A.1. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When A.1 has been worked vertically, 168-168-182-210-210-225 stitches remain on round. To get a pattern repetition mid front on yoke, displace beginning of round as follows: Knit 5-5-12-5-5-12, insert a marker thread here. This is now the beginning of round. Continue in the round with stocking stitch, AT THE SAME TIME on first row increase 0-14-14-0-14-13 stitches evenly – read INCREASE TIP = 168-182-196-210-224-238 stitches. When piece measures 14-15-16-19-20-21 cm, work A.2 in the round (= 12-13-14-15-16-17 repetitions of 14 stitches) = 192-208-224-240-256-272 stitches on round. When piece measures 18-20-21-24-26-27 cm, work A.3 in the round (= 12-13-14-15-16-17 repetitions of 16 stitches) = 216-234-252-270-288-306 stitches on round. Work in stocking stitch until piece measures 23-25-27-29-31-33 cm from cast-on edge mid front. Now divide piece for body and sleeves as follows: Work the first 32-34-37-40-44-48 stitches (= half back piece), slip the next 44-49-52-54-56-57 stitches on a strand for sleeve, cast on 8-10-10-10-12-14 new stitches on needle (= in the side under sleeve), work the next 64-68-74-81-88-96 stitches (= front piece), slip the next 44-49-52-54-56-57 stitches on a strand for sleeve, cast on 8-10-10-10-12-14 new stitches on needle (= in the side under sleeve), work the last 32-34-37-41-44-48 stitches (= half back piece). Now finish body and sleeves separately. NOW MEASURE PIECE FROM HERE! BODY: = 144-156-168-182-200-220 stitches. Continue with stocking until piece measures 23 cm from division. Try the jumper on and work until desired length (approx. 5 cm remain until finished measurements). To stop the rib from contracting increase 28-32-36-38-40-44 stitches evenly = 172-188-204-220-240-264 stitches. Switch to circular needle size 4 mm. Work rib = knit 2/purl 2 for 5 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl - read CAST-OFF TIP. Jumper measures approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm in total from shoulder and down. SLEEVE: Slip the 44-49-52-54-56-57 stitches from thread in one side of piece double pointed needles/a short circular needle size 5.5 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 8-10-10-10-12-14 new stitches cast on under sleeve = 52-59-62-64-68-71 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the new stitches under sleeve (= 4-5-5-5-6-7 new stitches on each side of marker thread). Move the marker thread upwards when working; it should be used for decrease under sleeve. Begin round at the marker thread and work stocking stitch in the round. When piece measures 4 cm from division, decrease 2 stitches mid under sleeve - read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this approx. every 4½-3-2½-2-2-1½ cm 6-8-9-9-10-11 times in total = 40-43-44-46-48-49 stitches. Continue in stocking stitch until sleeve measures 31-30-28-26-25-23 cm (shorter measurements in the larger sizes because of neck and longer yoke). Knit 1 round while increasing 8-5-8-6-8-7 stitch = 48-48-52-52-56-56 stitches. Switch to double pointed needles size 4 mm. Work rib (knit 2/purl 2) in the round for 4 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl - remember CAST-OFF TIP. Sleeve measures approx. 35-34-32-30-29-27 cm from division. Work the other sleeve the same way. |
