Bon tricot!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 108 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g. 24) = 4.5. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately each 4th and 5th stitch. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch on each side of all marker threads (= 8 stitches increased on the round) as follows: Work until there is 1 stitch left before the marker thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 2 (= marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), 1 yarn over. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. DECREASE TIP (sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on either side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). CASTING-OFF TIP: To avoid the cast-off edge being tight you can cast off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as casting off; the yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, from mid back and top down. The yoke is divided for body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked with short circular needle/double pointed needles, top down. DOUBLE NECK: Cast on 135-140-145-150-155-165 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm and DROPS Soft Tweed. Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 3) for 4 cm. Decrease all purl-3 to purl-2 = 108-112-116-120-124-132 stitches. Continue this rib until the neck measures 13 cm. Knit 1 round where you increase 24-28-24-36-40-56 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 132-140-140-156-164-188 stitches. Knit 1 round. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round (mid-back); the yoke is measured from this marker! Insert 4 marker threads (without working the stitches) as follows: Skip 23-25-25-29-31-37 stitches, insert a marker thread here (= transition between back piece and sleeve), skip 20 stitches, insert a marker thread here (= transition between sleeve and front piece), skip 46-50-50-58-62-74 stitches, insert a marker thread here (= transition between front piece and sleeve), skip 20 stitches, insert a marker thread here (= transition between sleeve and back piece), there are 23-25-25-29-31-37 stitches left after the last marker thread. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Work stocking stitch. AT THE SAME TIME on the first round start to increase to RAGLAN – read description above. Increase like this every 2nd round a total of 23-26-30-30-33-35 times = 316-348-380-396-428-468 stitches. When all the increases are finished, continue with stocking stitch until the piece measures 19-21-23-25-27-29 cm from the marker on the neck. Now divide for the body and sleeves on the next round as follows: Work the first 46-51-55-59-64-72 stitches (= half back piece), place the next 66-72-80-80-86-90 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-8-10-10-10 stitches (= in side under sleeve), work 92-102-110-118-128-144 stitches (= front piece), place the next 66-72-80-80-86-90 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-8-10-10-10 stitches (= in side under sleeve), work the last 46-51-55-59-64-72 stitches (= half back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE. BODY: = 200-220-236-256-276-308 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the cast-on stitches under each sleeve (= 4-4-4-5-5-5 new stitches on each side of the thread). Allow the threads to follow your work onwards; they are used when decreasing in the sides. Continue with stocking stitch in the round for 5 cm. Now decrease 1 stitch on each side of both marker threads – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 9 cm a total of 4 times in all sizes = 184-204-220-240-260-292 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 33 cm from the division; try the jumper on and work to desired length (approx. 5 cm left to finished length). Knit 1 round where you increase 16-16-20-24-24-24 stitches evenly spaced = 200-220-240-264-284-316 stitches. Change to circular needle size 3 mm and work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 5 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read CASTING-OFF TIP. The jumper measures approx. 62-64-66-68-70-72 cm from the shoulder down. SLEEVES: Place the 66-72-80-80-86-90 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on short circular needle/double pointed needles size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-8-10-10-10 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 74-80-88-90-96-100 stitches. Insert a marker thread in the middle of new stitches under the sleeve. Allow the thread to follow your work onwards; it will be used when decreasing under the sleeve. Continue with stocking stitch in the round for 5 cm. Now decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker thread – remember DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 3½-3-2-2-2-1½ cm a total of 10-12-15-15-16-17 times = 54-56-58-60-64-66 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 44-42-41-39-38-36 cm from the division. Knit 1 round where you increase 6-8-6-8-8-6 stitches evenly spaced = 60-64-64-68-72-72 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm and work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 5 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – remember CASTING-OFF TIP. The sleeve measures approx. 49-47-46-44-43-41 cm from the division. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. |
