I love knitting, but find it impossible to knit with circular needles. Can I use ordinary 2 needles to knit this top. Thank you.
18.01.2023 - 23:00DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Sedgwick, sure you can, for this pattern, back and front piece are worked back and forth on circular needle to get enough room for all stitches; you can work them on a straight needle - sew only 1 shoulder then work neck edge before sewing the 2nd shoulder, and work armhole edge before sewing side, then you can work all these edges in rows.

XL?Vielen Dank!

Bon tricot!

I am making annabelle pattern , the gauge 8.5x9 suggests I use a smaller needle ,but yarn is ,matted if I do. can I go up to a med and use measurements on pattern to adjust lenght ,decreases , like in sewing , I just spent 130.00 on yarn and am devastated , as it is a gift , daughters size 34.bust , can't find another pattern for the wool , love drops so much , , or shall I just add a few extra stitches at cast on ?thank you for your previous help
31.10.2021 - 18:08DROPS Design answered:
Dear Jacqueline, you need a gauge of 16sts x 20 rows = square of 10x10 cm or 4''. Could you please tell us which needle size and yarn you are using so that we can help you better? Happy knitting!

The gauge for Annabelle vest does not say which needle to use .. 5.5 or the 4.5 to do a swatch ..
30.10.2021 - 21:53DROPS Design answered:
Dear Jacqueline , for the swatches we usually use the needles that are used for the main part of the knitting, i.e. in this case needle 5.5. Happy knitting!

DROPS 220-41 |

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. DECREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 98 stitches) and divide by the number of decreases to be made (e.g. 24) = 4.1. In this example, decrease by knitting together approx. each 3rd and 4th stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in sections, back and forth, and sewn together to finish. Ribbed edges are then worked around the neck and armholes. The whole piece is worked with 1 strand of each quality (= 2 strands). BACK PIECE: Cast on 98-106-114-122-134-150 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm and 1 strand Alpaca and 1 strand Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). Purl 1 row (= wrong side). The next row is worked as follows from the right side: 2 edge stitches in GARTER STITCH – read description above, * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until there are 4 stitches left, knit 2 and finish with 2 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue this rib for 8 cm. Knit 1 row from the wrong side, then knit 1 row from the right side where you decrease 24-26-28-28-30-36 stitches evenly spaced – read DECREASE TIP = 74-80-86-94-104-114 stitches. Change to circular needle size 5.5 mm. Work stocking stitch back and forth with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 31-32-33-34-35-36 cm, cast off for both armholes at the beginning of each row as follows: Cast off 3 stitches 1-1-1-1-2-2 times, 2 stitches 2-3-3-4-4-5 times and 1 stitch 1-1-2-2-3-4 times on each side = 58-60-64-68-70-74 stitches. Continue back and forth with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. When the piece measures 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm, cast off the middle 24-24-26-26-28-28 stitches for the neck and each shoulder is finished separately. Then cast off 1 stitch on the next row from the neck = 16-17-18-20-20-22 stitches on the shoulder. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch until the piece measures 58-60-62-64-66-68 cm (approx. 27-28-29-30-31-32 cm from the bottom of the armhole). Cast off with knit from the right side (make sure the cast-off edge is not tight). Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 98-106-114-122-134-150 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm and 1 strand Alpaca and 1 strand Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). Purl 1 row (= wrong side). The next row is worked as follows from the right side: Work 2 edge stitches in garter stitch, * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until there are 4 stitches left, knit 2 and finish with 2 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue this rib for 8 cm. Knit 1 row from the wrong side, then knit 1 row from the right side where you decrease 24-26-28-28-30-36 stitches evenly spaced = 74-80-86-94-104-114 stitches. When the piece measures 47-49-50-52-53-55 cm, place the middle 12-12-14-14-16-16 stitches on a thread for the neck and each shoulder is finished separately. Then cast off stitches on each row from the neck as follows: Cast off 3 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 2 times = 16-17-18-20-20-22 stitches on the shoulder. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams with grafting stitches, inside the cast-off edges. Start under the armholes and sew the side seams inside the 1 edge stitch – leave approx. 8 cm open for the split on each side. NECK: Start from the right side, at one of the shoulder seams. Using short circular needle size 4.5 mm, 1 strand Alpaca and 1 strand Kid-Silk (= 2 strands) knit up 88 to 104 stitches (including the 12-12-14-14-16-16 stitches from the thread) inside 1 stitch around the neck opening (number of stitches must be divisible by 4). Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 3 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. ARMHOLE-EDGE: Start from the right side by the side seam under the armhole. Using short circular needle size 4.5 mm, 1 strand Alpaca and 1 strand Kid-Silk (= 2 strands) knit up 116 to 140 stitches around the armhole (number of stitches must be divisible by 4). Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 3 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Work the other armhole in the same way. |
