Hi, this pattern (DROPS 234-80) starts off with casting 1 strand of DROPS Lima and 1 strand of DROPS Kid-Silk together. Do we work with these 2 strands throughout the pattern? There is no mention to stop using the Kid-Silk or have I missed something? Please help, thanks.

Dear Bibik, yes, you work with both strands the whole hat. Happy knitting!

I want to make this for my daughter. She has a small head and every pattern I use it always turns out to big. I do the sample so my needle size is correct. Can I just put on less stitches in this pattern, is there a formula I should use to make sure I have the correct number of stitches to make the hat look good. I also want to use circular needles. Thank you.
06.02.2023 - 20:49DROPS Design answered:
Hi Linda, Rather than having fewer stitches, it would be easier for you to use a smaller needle size and the same number of stitches and rounds. A circular needle is fine, but at the top you will need to use the technique "Magic loop". Here is the link: garnstudio.com/video.php?id=120&lang=en Good luck !

Knitted hat in DROPS Lima and DROPS Kid-Silk. The piece is worked back and forth with garter stitch and moss stitch. Sizes S - XL.
DROPS 234-80 |

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The diagram shows all rows in the pattern from the right side. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth, from the brim upwards, then sewn together mid-back. HAT: Cast on 132-136 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4, using 1 strand DROPS Lima and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk. Work GARTER STITCH back and forth – read explanations above, for 5 cm = 2". Knit 1 row and decrease 36-36 stitches evenly spaced = 96-100 stitches. Work A.1. When the diagram is finished in height, repeat it until the piece measures 17 cm = 6¾" from the cast-on edge. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! Finish the hat in garter stitch. On the first row from the right side knit and decrease 6-10 stitches evenly spaced = 90-90 stitches. Knit the next row from the wrong side and insert 10 markers with 9 stitches between each one; marker-1 is inserted after the first stitch and there are 8 stitches left after the last marker at the end of the row. On the next row (right side) decrease 1 stitch before each marker by knitting 2 together. Repeat this decrease every 4th row, 3 more times = 50-50 stitches. Then decrease every 2nd row, 3 times = 20-20 stitches. Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 10-10 stitches. Knit 1 row. Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 5-5 stitches. Cut the strands, pull them through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. Sew the hat together mid-back, sewing in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch so the seam is flat. The hat measures approx. 23 cm = 9". |
