------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CHAIN STITCH: If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 single crochet is wide. CROCHET INFORMATION (for bottom): Each row of single crochets begins with 1 chain stitch, before continuing with 1 single crochet in each stitch (this chain stitch does not replace the first single crochet but is in addition). DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 single crochet on each side of the row as follows: Work 1 single crochet, * insert the hook in the next stitch, pick up the strand *, work from *-* 1 more time, make 1 yarn over and pull it through all 3 loops on the hook (1 stitch decreased). Continue with 1 single crochet in each stitch until there are 3 stitches left on the row, repeat the decrease across the next 2 stitches and work the last single crochet. INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch on each side of the row by working 2 stitches in the first and last stitch. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- BIKINI – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The bottom is worked in a long strip, starting at the top of the front piece, working back and forth down the front piece then up the back piece. The bottom is tied with ties on each side. The top consists of 2 triangles, joined with ties. BIKINI BOTTOM: Work 45-45-51-51-51-57 chain stitches with hook size 4 MM = US 6 and DROPS Muskat. Read CHAIN STITCH and CROCHET INFORMATION and work the first row as follows: Work 1 single crochet in the 3rd chain stitch from the hook, then 1 single crochet in each chain stitch to end of row = 43-43-49-49-49-55 single crochets (stitch count divisible by 6 + 1), turn. Work single crochets back and forth, decreasing 1 single crochet on each side of every row 4-4-9-9-9-10 times, then every 2nd row 11-11-9-9-9-8 times – read DECREASE TIP = 13 single crochets in all sizes (the piece measures approx. 15 cm = 6" in all sizes). Remember to maintain the crochet gauge. Work 1 single crochet in each stitch until the piece measures 19-20-21-22-23-24 cm = 7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾"-9"-9½". Insert 1 marker and now work the back piece, measuring from here. Increase 1 single crochet each side - read INCREASE TIP, every 2nd row 3 times, then every row 8-8-10-10-10-10 times and finally every 2nd row 13-13-14-14-14-17 times = 61-61-67-67-67-73 single crochets (stitch count divisible by 6 + 1). Work 1 single crochet in each stitch until the back piece measures 23-24-25-26-27-28 cm = 9"-9½"-9¾"-10¼"-10⅝"-11", do not cut the strand. Now work the edges. FANNED EDGES AND TIES: Work 3 rows back and forth across the back piece – read PATTERN above, as follows: Work A.1, then A.2 until there are 6 stitches left, work A.3. Work back and forth according to the diagrams. When the diagrams are finished, do not cut the strand but work ties as follows: Work 2 chain stitches then 1 single crochet in the first chain stitch worked, work 1 chain stitch, * do not turn, work 1 single crochet in the top loop of the previous single crochet, work 1 chain stitch *, work from *-* until the tie measures 30-40 cm = 11¾"-15¾". Cut and fasten the strand. Fasten a new strand on the other side of the fanned edge and work a second tie in the same way. Work an edge and ties across the front piece in the same way as on the back piece. BIKINI TOP: Work 2 triangles joined with ties. TRIANGLE: Work 3 chain stitches with hook size 4 MM = US 6 and DROPS Muskat. Form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. ROUND 1: Work 1 chain stitch (replaces the first single crochet), 1 single crochet in the first chain stitch on the ring, 2 single crochets in each of the next 2 chain stitches on the ring (= 6 single crochets), insert 1 marker-thread and allow it to follow your work onwards. Continue round and round to avoid a marked jump after each round. ROUND 2: * Work 2 single crochets in each of the first 2 single crochets, 1 chain stitch *, work from *-* a total of 3 times (= 12 single crochets and 3 chain stitches). ROUND 3: * Work 1 single crochet in each of the first 4 single crochets, then around the chain stitches work 1 single crochet + 1 chain stitch (= 1 corner) + 1 single crochet *, work from *-* a total of 3 times (= 18 single crochets and 3 chain stitches, with 3 corners and 6 single crochets between each corner). ROUND 4: 1 single crochet in each single crochet, then around the chain stitches in each corner work 1 single crochet + 1 chain stitch + 1 single crochet (= 24 single crochets and 3 chain stitches with 8 single crochets between each corner). ROUND 5: 1 single crochet in each single crochet, around the chain stitches in each corner work 1 single crochet + 1 chain stitch + 1 single crochet (= 30 single crochets and 3 chain stitches with 10 single crochets between each corner). Continue increasing like this until the piece measures 8-8½-9-9½-10-10½ cm = 3⅛"-3¼"-3½"-3⅝"-4"-4⅛" from the middle outwards (or to desired size). Work the last round as follows: Work as before until there is 1 side left of single crochets. Work as follows along the last side: 1 half-double crochet in the first single crochet, * 1 chain stitch, skip the first single crochet, 1 half-double crochet in the next single crochet *, work from *-* as far as the corner, finish with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch at the beginning of the round (= row of holes). Do not cut the strand, turn to the wrong side and work a fanned edge as follows: FANNED EDGE: Work 2 rows along the row of holes as follows: ROW 1 (wrong side): Work single crochets, AT THE SAME TIME adjust the stitch count so it is divisible by 6+1. Turn. ROW 2 (right side): Now work 1 row of PATTERN as follows: Work A.1, then A.2 until there are 6 stitches left, work A.3. Cut and fasten the strand. Work 1 more triangle in the same way. TIES: Work 2 chain stitches then 1 single crochet in the first chain stitch worked, work 1 chain stitch, * do not turn, work 1 single crochet in the top loop of the previous single crochet, work 1 chain stitch *, work from *-* until the tie measures 110-120-140-150-160-180 cm = 43⅜"-47¼"-55"-59"-63"-70⅞", cut and fasten the strand. Thread the tie up and down through the row of holes on the 2 triangles. The ends are tied at the back. Work another tie of 180-185-190-195-200-210 cm = 71"-73"-75"-77"-79"-83". Thread the ends from the wrong side through the top of one triangle, then from the right side through the top of the second triangle. The loops between the 2 triangles will be at the back of the neck when the top is worn. The ends are tied at the back of the neck. |
