PATTERN: See diagrams M.1 to M.5. The diagrams show all the rows in the pattern seen from RS. -------------------------------------------------------- LEFT MITTEN: Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 64 sts on double pointed needles size 3 mm / US 2or3 with off white. K 1 round, then work 4 rounds rib = K 1/P 1. Then work diagram M.1. When diagram M.1 has been worked 1 time vertically, work diagram M.2. When diagram M.2 has been worked 1 time vertically, work diagram M.3 while AT THE SAME TIME dec 1 st on first round in diagram M.3 = 63 sts. Continue pattern according to diagram M.3, on last round inc 1 st = 64 sts. When diagram M.3 has been worked 1 time vertically (piece measures approx. 14 cm / 5½"), continue to work according to diagram M.4. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! When it has been worked up to the 3 black squares on diagram M.4, continue with diagram M.5 over these 3 squares (continue the other sts in diagram M.4 as before). Inc in diagram M.5 by making 1 YO on each side of the middle st, on next round K YOs twisted (i.e. work in back loop of st instead front) to avoid holes. When 6 inc have been worked (there are now 15 sts in thumb gusset), work 4 rounds without inc (as shown in diagram M.5), then slip the 15 thumb sts on a stitch holder. Cast on 3 new sts behind sts on stitch holder = 64 sts. Continue working diagram M.4. When dec for fingers, dec on each side of 3 sts (off white, red, off white) in each side by working 2 sts tog with red – see diagram M.4. Dec as follows before the 3 sts: K 2 tog Dec as follows after the 3 sts: Slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, psso. After all dec are done, 16 sts remain on needle. Cut the yarn and pull ends through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten. THUMB: Slip the 15 thumb sts back on double pointed needles size 3 mm / US 2or3. Pick up 9 sts in the edge behind the thumb = 24 sts. Continue in the round according to diagram M.5. When dec beg, dec on each side of 1 st off white in each side by working 2 sts tog with red. Dec as follows before 1 st off white: K 2 tog Dec as follows after 1 st off white: Slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, psso. After all dec are done, 8 sts remain on needle. Cut the yarn and pull the ends through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten. RIGHT MITTEN: Cast on and work as left mitten but work the 3 black sts for thumb in the 6th, 7th and 8th st from the right in diagram M.4. |
