See diagram M.1. Work entire pattern in stockinette st.

Worked in the round on circular needle.
Cast on 96 sts on circular needle size 3 mm / US 2or3 with red. P 1 round, K 1 round, P 1 round and K 1 round. Insert 1 marker in the first st at beg of round and 1 marker in the 49th st (= the sides). Continue following diagram M.1 (48 sts) – repeat 2 times on round. Continue until M.1 has been knitted 1 time vertically. Now P 1 round, K 1 round and P 1 round with red. Then K 1 round, AT THE SAME TIME cast on 20 new sts at the end of round (with red). Turn piece, bind off the 20 new sts and bind off the remaining 96 sts from WS. Place pot holder flat with the markers at the sides. Sew the pot holder tog at the bottom with neat, little stitches – sew inside the cast on edge. Sew the pot holder tog at the top the same way – NOTE: The 20 new sts = loop, sew the end of the loop to the corner of the pot holder.

Knit another pot holder but switch the colors so that the pattern color is red and the base color is white.

= red
= white
