DROPS 156-2 |
|||||||||||||||||||
GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows K. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 - A.13. The diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from RS. KNITTING TIP: If you want a bigger shawl, repeat A.4-A.6 vertically. SHAPING: When using another yarn from yarn group A, there is no need to stretch to measurements, but place it gently out in shape. Leave to dry. Repeat the process when the garment has been washed. ---------------------------------------------------------- SHAWL: Worked back and forth on circular needle, from the neck down. Cast on 9 sts on circular needle size 3.5 mm with Lace or BabyAlpaca Silk. Work diagram A.1 (NB: 1st row is from WS). When A.1 has been worked 1 time vertically, there are 21 sts on needle. Then work as follows from RS: 3 sts in GARTER ST – see explanation above, A.2, 1 st in stocking st (= mid st), A.2, finish with 3 sts in garter st. When A.2 has been worked 1 time vertically, there are 49 sts on needle. Now work next row from RS as follows: 3 sts in garter st, A.3, 1 st in stocking st (= mid st), A.3, finish with 3 sts in garter st. When A.3 has been worked 1 time vertically, there are 65 sts on needle. Now work next row from RS as follows: 3 sts in garter st, A.4, A.5 2 times, A.6, 1 st in stocking st (= mid st), A.4, A.5 2 times, A.6, finish with 3 sts in garter st. When A.4-A.6 have been worked 1 time vertically, there are 97 sts on needle. After A.4-A.5 there is room for 2 new repetitions of A.5 on each side of shawl. Work until 6 whole repetitions have been worked of A.4-A.6 vertically. I.e. there are now 12 times A.5 on each side of mid st = 257 sts. Now work next row from RS as follows: 3 sts in garter st, A.7, repeat A.8 until 4 sts remain before mid st (= 7 times), A.9, 1 st in stocking st (= mid st), A.10, repeat A.11 until 12 sts remain (= 7 times), A.12, finish with 3 sts in garter st. When A.7-A.12 have been worked 1 time vertically, there are 353 sts on needle. Now work next row from RS as follows: Work A.13 until mid st (= 22 times), 1 st in stocking st (= mid st), work A.13 the rest of row (= 22 times). When A.13 has been worked, there are 617 sts on needle. LOOSELY cast off with P from WS. BLOCKING: Place the shawl in lukewarm water until it is soaking wet. Carefully squeeze the water out of the shawl - do not twist the shawl - then roll the shawl in a towel and squeeze to remove more water - the shawl will now only be moist. When using BabyAlpaca Silk – READ SHAPING! Place the shawl on a carpet or mattress - carefully stretch it out to size and fasten it with pins, pull the middle of lace repetitions in A.13 out to form tips. Leave to dry. Repeat the process when the garment has been washed. |
