I am quite new to knitting and I do not understand which needles you are suggesting in this pattern. The text specifies: "Worked in the round on double pointed needles top down towards toe. Cast on 84 stitches on circular needle size 3mm [...]". Are you using multiple double pointed needles size 3mm? How do you distribute the stitches? Or are you using a circular needle size 3mm? With which cable length? Thank you so much.
01.02.2023 - 19:58DROPS Design answered:
Hi Marie-Anne, You can either use double pointed needles throughout the pattern (and distribute the stitches evenly on these needles) or use a short circular needle to start with and change to double pointed needles when the stitches are too few to use the circular needle. Happy knitting!

To begin pattern, do I begin on left or right and top or bottom of the diagram A-1?
21.02.2018 - 20:25DROPS Design answered:
Dear Calista, you should begin right bottom corner of diagram and read it to left. All patterns are in diagrams seen from right side of garment. More about reading pattern diagrams you could find in our Lessons - please see How do I read the diagrams that come with the patterns? . Happy knitting!

INFORMATION FOR PATTERN: PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. The diagrams are worked in stocking stitch. HEEL DECREASE: Worked back and forth in stocking stitch. ROW 1 (= right side): Work until 1 stitch remains, turn piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Slip first stitch purlwise, tighten yarn and work until 1 stitch remains, turn piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Slip first stitch knitwise, tighten yarn and work until 2 stitches remains, turn piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Slip first stitch purlwise, tighten yarn and work until 2 stitches remains, turn piece. Continue decrease the same way until 18 stitches remain in the middle of row. Continue back and forth but now work 1 stitch more for every row over heel. To avoid holes in the transitions, lift the yarn before the stitch to be knitted up and slip it twisted on the needle. Work the yarn together with stitch. Work like this until all heel stitches have been worked. DECREASE TIP (applies to toe): Begin 3 stitches before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 1, marker thread, knit 1, slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- CHRISTMAS STOCKING: Worked in the round on double pointed needles top down towards toe. Cast on 84 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with light grey. Work 16 rounds in stocking stitch. Then purl 1 round (= folding edge). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Then work pattern in the round according to diagram A.1 (= 14 repetitions of 6 stitches) - AT THE SAME TIME decrease 4 stitches evenly on round marked with arrow in diagram = 80 stitches. When A.1 has been worked vertically, work in the round according to diagram A.2 (= 4 repetitions of 20 stitches). Work A.2 2 times in total vertically. Piece measures approx. 19 cm from folding edge. Now keep the first 20 stitches on needle for heel, slip the next 40 stitches on 1 stitch holder (= on top of foot) and keep the last 20 stitches on needle for heel. Now work HEEL DECREASE - see explanation above, with stocking stitch back and forth over the 40 heel stitches with wine red. When heel decrease is done, slip the 40 stitches from stitch holder back on needle and continue in the round over all 80 stitches as follows (begin round after stitches from heel): Work A.2 as before over the 40 stitches mid on top of foot, work 1 stitch light grey, 1 stitch wine red, insert 1 marker (= B), work A.3 (= 6 stitches) over the next 36 stitches AT THE SAME TIME increase 1 stitch (after the first 18 stitches) so that pattern begins and ends the same way in each side, insert 1 marker (= C) and finish with 1 stitch wine red and 1 stitch light grey = 81 stitches. Continue the pattern AT THE SAME TIME decrease in each side as follows: Knit the first 2 stitches AFTER marker B twisted together with light grey and the last 2 stitches BEFORE marker C together with light grey. Decrease like this every other round 6 times in total = 69 stitches. Continue pattern until A.2 has been worked 2 times in total vertically after heel (approx. 8 cm remain until finished measurements). Insert 1 marker in each side so that there are 34 stitches on top of foot and 35 stitches under foot. Continue working with wine red and decrease for toes on each side of these 2 markers - read DECREASE TIP! Decrease like this on every other round 11 times in total and then on every round 4 times in total = 9 stitches remain on needle. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Fold hem towards wrong side at the folding round and fasten on the inside of stocking with small stitches. |
