------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH: Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows (7 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 5 GARTER STITCHES – see explanation above. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows (7 stitches): Work until there are 7 stitches left on the row, work 5 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knitting the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the same row as the increases for the rib. Then work the other 6-6-7-7-7-7-7 buttonholes with 7½-7½-7-7-7½-7½-8 cm between each one. KNITTING TIP: If the piece is divided in the middle of a pattern-border, the pattern might not then fit under the sleeves. Continue the pattern across the yoke as far as it will go to mid-under the sleeve – the next border will fit across all stitches. If the piece is divided before the pattern-border marked with a star in A.3, adjust the stitch count on the yoke to 211-225-239-253-281-309-337 stitches before working the border. The stitch count is adjusted back to 211-227-243-259-283-307-331 stitches when the pattern-border is finished. INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 138 stitches) minus the stitches not increased across (e.g., 30 stitches; the outermost 15 stitches on each side) and divide the remaining stitches by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 29) = 3.7. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately each 3rd and 4th stitch. (do not increase across the 15 outermost stitches on each side). On the next row work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. The diagrams show the pattern from the right side. Remember that the diagrams are read from left to right when working from the wrong side. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Do not decrease on a purled row. Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down, increasing evenly on the yoke. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. NECK: Cast on 121-121-127-127-133-139-139 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Lima or DROPS Saga. Change to circular needle size 2.5 mm. Purl 1 row from the wrong side, knit 1 row from the right side and purl 1 row from the wrong side (= rolled edge). From the right side, work the next row as follows: 7 stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, work rib (knit 1 and purl 1) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 1 and work 7 stitches according to bands with I-cord. Continue this rib for 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm, with the next row from the right side. Insert 1 marker inside one band (mid-front); the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Stitches are now increased in the rib as follows: Work 7 band-stitches as before, * knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, make 1 yarn over *, work from *-* a total of 17-17-18-18-19-20-20 times, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1 and work 7 band-stitches as before – remember the first BUTTONHOLE on the right band – read explanation above = 138-138-145-145-152-159-159 stitches. Continue this rib with knit above knit and purl above purl; NOTE: On the first row from the wrong side, knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes (= 2 purled stitches in every 3rd purled section, seen from the right side). Continue this rib for 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 cm (measured from the marker), with the next row from the right side (total rib = 5-5-5-5-7-7-7 cm, without the rolled-edge). Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Work stocking stitch with 7 band-stitches on each side. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the yoke measures 3-3-3-4-5-5-5 cm from the marker, increase 29-29-30-34-39-40-40 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP (do not increase across the 15 outermost stitches on each side) = 167-167-175-179-191-199-199 stitches. When the yoke measures 5-5-5-6-7-8-8 cm from the marker, begin PATTERN – read explanation above, working as follows: 7 band-stitches, work A.1 until there are 8 stitches left, work A.2, then 7 band-stitches. Continue this pattern. AT THE SAME TIME, on each row marked with a star in A.1, increase stitches evenly as described below – remember INCREASE TIP (do not increase across the 15 outermost stitches on each side) and remember the BUTTONHOLES on the right band. NOTE: When A.1 and A.2 are finished in height, work A.3 and A.4 in the same way. A.3 and A.4 will continue on the body and sleeves after dividing (the increases are finished before dividing). Arrow-1: Increase 26-30-32-34-38-38-42 stitches evenly spaced = 193-197-207-213-229-237-241 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 26-30-30-34-38-38-42 stitches evenly spaced = 219-227-237-247-267-275-283 stitches. Arrow-3: Increase 24-28-30-32-36-40-44 stitches evenly spaced = 243-255-267-279-303-315-327 stitches. There is now room for 19-20-21-22-24-25-26 repeats of A.1 across the yoke. Arrow-4: Increase 28-30-30-36-40-44-44 stitches evenly spaced (make sure that increases are only made in the stitches worked in stocking stitch and that the purl stitches continue correctly across the pattern) = 271-285-297-315-343-359-371 stitches. Arrow-5: Increase 22-22-24-30-30-36-38 stitches evenly spaced = 293-307-321-345-373-395-409 stitches. Arrow-6: Increase 16-16-16-20-20-26-26 stitches evenly spaced = 309-323-337-365-393-421-435 stitches. There is now room for 21-22-23-25-27-29-30 repeats of A.3 across the yoke. When the yoke measures 20-21-23-24-25-26-28 cm from the marker mid-front, divide for the body and sleeves (the increases should be finished). DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work 51-54-57-60-65-70-74 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 59-60-61-69-73-77-76 stitches on a thread/stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 89-95-101-107-117-127-135 stitches as before (= back piece), place the next 59-60-61-69-73-77-76 stitches on a thread/stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 51-54-57-60-65-70-74 stitches as before (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 211-227-243-259-283-307-331 stitches. Continue the pattern from the yoke back and forth, with 7 band-stitches on each side – read KNITTING TIP. When A.3 and A.4 are finished in height, continue with stocking stitch and 7 band-stitches on each side. Work until the piece measures 44-46-48-50-51-52-54 cm from the marker mid-front. On the next row from the right side begin the rib; AT THE SAME TIME increase 50-56-62-62-68-76-84 stitches evenly on the row – read INCREASE TIP (do not increase across the 7 band-stitches on each side, it is neatest if you increase in the stitches which will be purled in the rib so the knitted stitches are continued from the stocking stitch) = 261-283-305-321-351-383-415 stitches. Work as follows: Change to circular needle size 2.5 mm. Work the band as before, rib (knit 1, purl 1 – remember to increase) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 1 and work the band as before. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm, cast off with knit above knit and purl above purl, or work Italian cast-off. The jacket measures approx. 49-51-53-55-56-58-60 cm from the marker mid-front and 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 59-60-61-69-73-77-76 sleeve-stitches from one thread/stitch holder onto circular needle size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 69-72-75-85-91-97-100 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Continue the pattern from the yoke in the round. NOTE: The pattern will not fit under the sleeve; work the pattern as far as it will go. AT THE SAME TIME adjust the stitch count to 68-72-74-84-90-96-100 stitches on the first round. When A.3 is finished, continue with stocking stitch. AT THE SAME TIME, after working 1 round after dividing, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2nd round a total of 2-2-2-3-3-4-4 times, then decrease 2 stitches every 2 cm 5-6-6-9-10-11-12 times = 54-56-58-60-64-66-68 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 43-43-41-41-39-40-39 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 14-14-16-16-16-16-16 stitches evenly on the first round = 68-70-74-76-80-82-84 stitches. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm, cast off with rib or work Italian cast-off. The sleeve measures approx. 46-46-44-44-43-44-44 cm from the division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
