------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: START OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise, with yarn in front, knit 1, work 6 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Work until there are 8 stitches left on the row, work 6 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Choose diagram for your size. The diagram shows all rows in the pattern from the right side. INCREASE TIP (applies to round yoke): Do not increase over the outermost 12 stitches on each side. To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 125 stitches), minus the 12 stitches on each side, then divide the remaining stitches by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 30) = 3.3. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 3rd stitch. On the next row work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP (for sides of body): Start 4 stitches before the marker-thread, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over knitted stitch, knit 4 (marker-thread in middle of these 4 stitches), knit 2 together (2 stitches decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Work buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn). Work from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. On the next row (wrong side), knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck. The other 5-5-5-5-6-6 buttonholes are then worked with approx. 8-8-8½-9-8-8 cm between each one. The bottom buttonhole is worked in the transition between stocking stitch and rib. I-CORD CAST-OFF: After the last stitch on the round has been worked: Cast on 3 stitches on the right needle, from the right side. Place the 3 stitches on the left needle, with the working yarn between these 3 stitches and the other stitches (tighten the strand when working to make a small tube). ROW 1 (right side): Knit 2, knit the next 2 stitches twisted together. ROW 2 (right side): Place the 3 stitches from the right needle back on the left needle, knit 2, knit the next 2 stitches twisted together. Repeat ROW 2 until there are 3 stitches left on the right needle. Place these 3 stitches back on the left needle. Cast off. Sew a small stitch to join the beginning and end of the I-cord. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both short and long circular needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down. When the yoke is finished, divide the stitches into body and sleeves. Finish the body back and forth with circular needle, top down, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are then worked in the round, top down. The neck is folded double and sewn down. NECK: Cast on 111-115-119-123-127-135 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Muskat. Change to circular needle size 3 mm (casting on with a larger needle makes the cast-on edge elastic). Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Work as follows from the right side: 1 GARTER STITCH – read description above, * knit 1, purl 1 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, knit 1, 1 garter stitch. Continue this rib back and forth for 4 cm. Now cast on 7 stitches at the end of the next 2 rows = 125-129-133-137-141-149 stitches. Continue the rib but with the outermost 8 stitches on each side worked according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read description above. Work until the neck measures 9 cm – finishing after a row from the wrong side The neck is later folded double to approx. 4 cm. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Insert 1 marker inside the band; the yoke is measured from here. Knit 1 row from the right side (bands worked as before) and increase 30-32-36-40-42-44 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP. Remember the BUTTONHOLES on the right band – read description above = 155-161-169-177-183-193 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and 8 band stitches on each side. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the yoke measures 3-3-4-4-5-6 cm from the marker, increase 33-36-40-44-47-52 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP = 188-197-209-221-230-245 stitches. Continue working until the yoke measures 4-4-5-5-6-7 cm from the marker. Now work PATTERN – read description above, i.e., work the first row from the right side as follows: 8 band stitches as before, work A.1 until there are 9 stitches left, work the first stitch in A.1 so the pattern is symmetrical, then 8 band stitches as before. Continue this pattern. AT THE SAME TIME on each row marked with an arrow in A.1, increase as follows: Arrow-1: Increase 39-40-48-56-57-62 stitches evenly spaced = 227-237-257-277-287-307 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 42-47-51-55-66-70 stitches evenly spaced = 269-284-308-332-353-377 stitches. Arrow-3: Increase 44-53-53-61-64-72 stitches evenly spaced = 313-337-361-393-417-449 stitches. Arrow-4: Increase 3-7-7-11-11-15 stitches evenly spaced = 316-344-368-404-428-464 stitches. When A.1 is finished, the yoke measures approx. 18-18-19-19-22-23 cm from the marker. Continue with stocking stitch and 8 band stitches on each side until the yoke measures 19-20-22-23-25-27 cm from the marker. Now divide for the body and sleeves: Work the first 54-59-62-67-72-79 stitches (front piece), place the next 58-62-68-76-78-82 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12 (in side under sleeve), work 92-102-108-118-128-142 stocking stitches (back piece), place the next 58-62-68-76-78-82 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12 (in side under sleeve), work the last 54-59-62-67-72-79 stitches as before (front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. The piece is now measured from here! BODY: = 216-236-252-272-296-324 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread 58-63-67-72-78-85 stitches in from each side, with 100-110-118-128-140-154 stitches between the marker-threads on the back piece. Allow the marker-threads to follow your work onwards; they are used when decreasing in the sides. Work stocking stitch and the bands as before back and forth for a further 5-5-5-7-7-7 cm. Now decrease 1 stitch on each side of both marker-threads – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 5-5-5-7-7-7 cm a total of 3-3-3-2-2-2 times = 204-224-240-264-288-316 stitches. Continue working until the body measures 20-21-21-22-22-22 cm from the division. Work 1 row from the right side and increase 39-45-45-51-57-59 stitches evenly spaced (do not increase over the bands) = 243-269-285-315-345-375 stitches. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Work rib as follows from the wrong side: 8 band stitches, * purl 1, knit 1 *, work from *-* until there are 9 stitches left, purl 1 and 8 band stitches. Continue this rib for 4 cm. Cast off. The jacket measures approx. 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 58-62-68-76-78-82 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on short circular needle/double pointed needles size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the de 8-8-10-10-12-12 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 66-70-78-86-90-94 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the new stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and work stocking stitch in the round for 6-5-4-3-3-2 cm. Knit 1 round and decrease 8-8-6-6-2-0 stitches evenly spaced = 58-62-72-80-88-94 stitches. Cast off with I-CORD – read description above. ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight, and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. Sew together the openings mid-front of neck with small stitches. Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
