---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (when working back and forth): Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. BAND WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work band as follows: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1 and work 6 stitches in garter stitch. END OF ROW: Work band as follows: Work until 8 stitches remain on row, work 6 stitches in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. Work the same way both from right side and wrong side. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.6. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. Choose diagram for correct size. INCREASE TIP (evenly): To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 125 stitches), minus bands (e.g. 16 stitches) and divide the remaining stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 17) = 6.4. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately approx. every 6th and 7th stitch (do not increase over bands). On next row work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is in the middle of these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 5 stitches remain on row as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work band as before and knit yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease for first buttonhole on first row from right side after neck edge has been worked. Then decrease the next 6-6-6-7-7-7 buttonholes, approx. 7-7½-7½-6½-7-7 cm apart. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke back and forth from mid front, work top down. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. NECK EDGE: Cast on 125-129-135-139-145-151 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with DROPS Sky or DROPS Daisy. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Work next row as follows from right side: Work 8 stitches BAND WITH I-CORD - read explanation above, work rib (knit 1, purl 1) until 9 stitches remain, knit 1 and 8 stitches band with I-cord. Continue rib like this until neck edge measures 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm. Insert a maker on the inside of band in one side of piece, measure piece from this marker. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 4 mm and work first row from mid front as follows: Work band as before, work 109-113-119-123-129-135 stitches in stocking stitch while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 17-25-27-23-25-31 stitches evenly over these stitches – read INCREASE TIP, work band as before - remember BUTTONHOLES – read explanation above = 142-154-162-162-170-182 stitches on needle. Then work in stocking stitch and band. Remember to follow the knitting tension! When yoke measures 2-3-3-3½-3½-3½ cm from marker, increase stitches by working PATTERN – read explanation above and work as follows: A.1: Work band as before, 3 stitches in stocking stitch, work first row in A.1 30-33-35-35-37-40 times in total along the yoke, work 3 stitches in stocking stitch and band as before = 172-187-197-232-244-262 stitches. Work stocking stitch and band for 3-3-3-3-3½-3½ cm. Work next row as follows from right side: A.2: Work band as before, 3 stitches in stocking stitch, work first row in A.2 30-33-35-35-37-40 times in total along the yoke, work 3 stitches in stocking stitch and band as before = 202-220-232-267-281-302 stitches. Work stocking stitch and band for 3-3-3-3-3½-3½ cm. Work next row as follows from right side: A.3: Work band as before, 3 stitches in stocking stitch, work first row in A.3 30-33-35-35-37-40 times in total along the yoke, work 3 stitches in stocking stitch and band as before = 232-253-267-302-318-342 stitches. Work stocking stitch and band for 3-3-3-3-3½-3½ cm. Work next row as follows from right side: A.4: Work band as before, 3 stitches in stocking stitch, work first row in A.4 30-33-35-35-37-40 times in total along the yoke, work 3 stitches in stocking stitch and band as before = 262-286-302-337-355-382 stitches. Work stocking stitch and band for 3-3-3-3-3½-3½ cm. Work next row as follows from right side: A.5: Work band as before, 3 stitches in stocking stitch, work first row in A.5 30-33-35-35-37-40 times in total along the yoke, work 3 stitches in stocking stitch and band as before = 292-319-337-372-392-422 stitches. Work stocking stitch and band for 3-3-3-3-3½-3½ cm. Work stocking stitch and band until piece measures 21-23-23-24-26-28 cm from marker mid front – AT THE SAME TIME on first row increase 6-4-8-9-11-14 stitches evenly (do not increase over bands) = 328-356-380-416-440-476 stitches. Now divide piece for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work 56-61-64-69-74-81 stitches as before (= front piece), slip the next 60-64-70-78-80-84 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 96-106-112-122-132-146 stitches in stocking stitch (= back piece), slip the next 60-64-70-78-80-84 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve) and work the last 56-61-64-69-74-81 stitches as before (= front piece). When rib measures 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off all stitches somewhat loosely with knit over knit and purl over purl. Jacket measures 47-49-50-52-54-56 cm from marker mid front and approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 60-64-70-78-80-84 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 4 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-10-10-12-12 stitches cast on under sleeve - read SLEEVE TIP = 68-72-80-88-92-96 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-12-12 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread. Work in stocking stitch in the round on needle - AT THE SAME TIME when sleeve measures 3-3-3-3-2-2 cm from division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 6-5-3½-2½-2½-2 cm 6-7-10-12-13-14 times in total = 56-58-60-64-66-68 stitches.
