---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. DECREASE TIP (applies to decrease for armholes and neck): All decreases are done from the right side! Decrease at beginning of row as follows: 1 stitch in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (1 stitch decreased). Decrease at end of row as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain, knit 2 together, 1 stitch in garter stitch (1 stitch decreased) INCREASE TIP (applies to sleeves): All increases are done from the right side. Work 1 stitch in garter stitch, knit 1, 1 yarn over (1 stitch increased), knit until 2 stitches remain, 1 yarn over (1 stitch increased), knit 1 and finish with 1 stitch in garter stitch. On next row purl yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Work the new stitches in stocking stitch. CAST-OFF TIP: To avoid a tight cast-off edge when casting off, you may use a larger needle. If this still is too tight make 1 yarn over after approx. every 4th stitch while casting off (cast off yarn overs as stitches). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work front piece, back piece and sleeves back and forth on circular needle separately, bottom up. Sew the piece together as explained in pattern. Finish with a neck edge. BACK PIECE: Cast on 90-94-102-114-118-126-134 stitches on circular needle size 4 mm with 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). Purl 1 row from wrong side. Then work back and forth in rib (knit 2/purl 2) with 1 stitch in GARTER STITCH in each side - read explanation above, for 6 cm. Knit 1 row from right side and decrease 11 stitches evenly (do not decrease over edge stitches) = 79-83-91-103-107-115-123 stitches. Switch to circular needle size 5.5 mm and work in stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 38-39-40-41-42-43-44 cm, cast off 3 stitches for armholes at beginning of the next 2 rows = 73-77-85-97-101-109-117 stitches. Continue decrease for armholes inside 1 stitch in garter stitch - read DECREASE TIP, on every row from right side 1-1-1-5-5-7-7 times in total = 71-75-83-87-91-95-103 stitches. Continue to work until piece measures 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm. On next row from right side, cast off the middle 27-27-29-29-31-31-33 stitches for neck and work the rest of row. Finish each shoulder separately. Slip the first 22-24-27-29-30-32-35 stitches worked on a thread or leave them on the needle (right shoulder). LEFT SHOULDER (when garment is worn): = 22-24-27-29-30-32-35 stitches. Begin from wrong side. Work in stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side. On first row from right side decrease 1 stitches for neck at the beginning of row – remember DECREASE TIP = 21-23-26-28-29-31-34 stitches. Work until piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm. Cast off by knitting from right side - read CAST-OFF TIP! RIGHT SHOULDER (when garment is worn): = 22-24-27-29-30-32-35 stitches. Begin from wrong side. Work in stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side. On first row from right side decrease 1 stitch for neck at the end of row – remember DECREASE TIP = 21-23-26-28-29-31-34 stitches. Then work back and forth in rib (knit 2/purl 2) with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side for 6 cm. Continue to work as before until piece measures 48-50-51-53-54-56-57 cm and next row is from right side. Begin from wrong side. Work in stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side. On first row from right side begin decrease for neck at the beginning of row – remember DECREASE TIP and decrease like this 4 times in total = 21-23-26-28-29-31-34 stitches. Work until piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm. Cast off by knitting from right side - remember CAST-OFF TIP! LEFT SHOULDER (when garment is worn): = 25-27-30-32-33-35-38 stitches. Begin from wrong side. Work in stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side. On first row from right side begin decrease for neck at the end of row – remember DECREASE TIP and decrease like this 4 times in total = 21-23-26-28-29-31-34 stitches. SLEEVES: Cast on 46-46-50-50-54-54-58 stitches on circular needle size 4 mm with 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). Purl 1 row from wrong side. Then work back and forth in rib (knit 2/purl 2) with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side for 6 cm. Knit 1 row from right side and decrease 6-4-6-6-8-6-8 stitches evenly (do not decrease over edge stitches) = 40-42-44-44-46-48-50 stitches. Switch to circular needle size 5.5 mm. Work back and forth in stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side. When sleeve measures 8 cm, increase 1 stitch inside 2 stitches in each side of piece - read INCREASE TIP! Increase like this approx. every 7-6-5-4½-4-3½-3½ cm 6-7-8-9-10-11-11 times in total = 52-56-60-62-66-70-72 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 48-48-47-46-45-44-44 cm. Now cast off stitches in each side for sleeve cap as follows: Cast off 3 stitches 2-2-2-3-3-4-4 times in total in each side. Then cast off the remaining stitches, piece measures approx. 50-50-49-49-48-48-48 cm. Work the other sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew sleeve cap to armhole. Sew sleeve seam and side seam in one inside 1 stitch in garter stitch. Repeat in the other side. NECK EDGE: Pick up stitches inside 1 stitch from right side on circular needle size 4 mm with 1 strand of each quality. Begin mid back. Pick up approx. 76 to 96 stitches, including stitches from thread (number of stitches must be divisible by with 4). Work rib (knit 2/purl 2) until neck edge measures approx. 9 cm.
