------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP (evenly): To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 54 stitches) minus bands (e.g. 8 stitches) and divide the remaining stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 11) = 4.9. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. every 5th stitch and do not increase over bands. On next row work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes RAGLAN: All increases are done from the right side. Increase 1 stitch in each side of marker thread in every transition between body and sleeves (= 8 stitches increased on row) as follows: Work until 1 stitch remains before marker thread, 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), 1 yarn over. On next row purl yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. DECREASE TIP (applies to mid under sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked. BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 3 stitches remain on row as follows: Make 1 yarn over, knit the next 2 stitches together, knit last stitch. On next row (wrong side) knit the yarn over to make a hole. Decrease first buttonhole when rib in neck measures approx. 2 cm. Then cast off the next 5-5-5-5-5-6 buttonholes approx. 9½-9½-10-10-10-10 cm apart. CAST-OFF TIP: To avoid a tight cast-off edge you may use a larger needle size. If this also is too tight, work a 1 yarn over after approx. every 4th stitch while casting off (cast off yarn overs as regular stitches). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work neck edge and yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, top down. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. Work body back and forth on circular needle, top down. Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles/short circular needle, top down. NECK EDGE: Cast on 54-58-58-62-66-66 stitches (including 4 band stitches in each side towards mid front) on circular needle size 6 mm with 1 strand Alpaca Bouclé + 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk (= 2 strands). Purl 1 row (= wrong side). Work next row as follows from right side: Work 4 band stitches in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above - * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until 6 stitches remain, knit 2 and finish with 4 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue rib like this for 2 cm – remember BUTTONHOLES on right band – read explanation above. When rib is done, knit 1 row from right side while at the same time increasing 11-11-11-11-15-19 stitches evenly - read INCREASE TIP = 65-69-69-73-81-85 stitches. Knit 1 row from wrong side. Switch to circular needle size 9 mm. Insert 1 marker after band at the beginning of row mid front, measure yoke from this marker! YOKE: Now insert 4 marker threads in the piece as follows: Insert first marker thread after 14-15-15-16-18-19 stitches (= front piece), skip the next 8 stitches (= sleeve), insert a marker thread here, skip the next 21-23-23-25-29-31 stitches (= back piece), insert a marker thread here, skip the next 8 stitches (= sleeve), insert a marker thread here 14-15-15-16-18-19 stitches on needle after last marker thread (= front piece). Work in stocking stitch with 4 band stitches in garter stitch in each side. AT THE SAME TIME on first row from right side begin increase for RAGLAN – read explanation above. Increase like this every other row 10-11-13-14-15-16 times, then on every 4th row 2 times in total = 161-173-189-201-217-229 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Work without increase until piece measures 23-25-27-29-31-33 cm from marker. Work next row from wrong side as follows: Work the first 26-28-30-32-36-38 stitches (= right front piece), slip the next 32-34-38-40-40-42 stitches on a stitch holder for sleeve and cast on 6-6-6-8-8-8 new stitches on needle (= in the side under sleeve), work the next 45-49-53-57-65-69 stitches (= back piece), slip the next 32-34-38-40-40-42 stitches on a stitch holder for sleeve and cast on 6-6-6-8-8-8 new stitches on needle (= in the side under sleeve), work the remaining 26-28-30-32-36-38 stitches on round (= left front piece). BODY: = 109-117-125-137-153-161 stitches. Work in stocking stitch with 4 band stitches in garter stitch in each side. When piece measures 29 cm from division, increase 17-21-21-21-25-25 stitches evenly = 126-138-146-158-178-186 stitches. Switch to circular needle size 6 mm. Work rib as follows: 4 band stitches in garter stitch, (= knit 2/purl 2) until 6 stitches remain on row, knit 2, 4 band stitches in garter stitch. When rib measures 4 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl - read CAST-OFF TIP. Jacket measures approx. 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm from shoulder and down. SLEEVE: Slip the 32-34-38-40-40-42 stitches from stitch holder in one side of piece back on a short circular needle/double pointed needles size 9 mm, and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 6-6-6-8-8-8 stitches cast on in the side under sleeve = 38-40-44-48-48-50 stitches. Insert a marker thread in the middle of the new stitches (= 3-3-3-4-4-4 new stitches on each side of marker thread). Work in stocking stitch in the round. When piece measures 4 cm from division, decrease 2 stitches under sleeve - READ DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this approx. every 4½-3½-3-2-2-2 cm 3-4-5-7-7-7 times in total = 32-32-34-34-34-36 stitches. When piece measures 38-36-35-33-31-30 cm, increase 4-4-6-6-6-8 stitches evenly = 36-36-40-40-40-44 stitches. Switch to double pointed needles size 6 mm. Work rib (knit 2/purl 2) in the round for 4 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl - remember CAST-OFF TIP. Fasten off. Sleeve measures approx. 42-40-39-37-35-34 cm from division. Work the other sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons on to left band. |
