Hej!

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side! INCREASE/DECREASE TIP (evenly): All increases/decreases are done from the right side! To calculate how to increase or decrease evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 167 stitches), minus bands (e.g. 8 stitches) and divide the remaining 159 stitches by number of increases/decreases to be done (e.g. 16) = 9.9. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. every 10th stitch. Do not increase over bands. On next row (wrong side) purl yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. If decreasing knit approx. every 9th and 10th stitch together. INCREASE TIP (applies to mid under sleeves): Work until 2 stitches remain before marker, make 1 yarn over, knit 4 (marker thread is in the middle of these 4 stitches), make 1 yarn over (= 2 stitches increased). On next round knit yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. BUTTONHOLES (top down): Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 3 stitches remain on row as follows: Make 1 yarn over, knit the next 2 stitches together, knit last stitch. On next row (wrong side) knit the yarn over to make a hole. Decrease first buttonhole when rib in neck measures approx. 1½-2 cm. Then decrease the next 6-6-7-7-7-7 buttonholes, approx. 8-8½-7½-8-8-8½ cm between each. KNITTING TIP (applies to sleeve length): Length on sleeves can be adjusted as explained in pattern but note that the sleeve length should be a bit longer than usual to make the sleeves baggy at the bottom. CAST OFF TIP: To avoid a tight cast-off edge you may use a larger needle. Or make 1 yarn over after approx. every 6th stitch while casting off (cast off yarn overs as regular stitches). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work neck edge and yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, work top down. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. Work body back and forth on circular needle, top down. Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles, top down. Work entire garment with 2 strands Melody. NECK EDGE: Cast on 51-54-57-60-60-63 stitches (including 4 band stitches in each side towards mid front) on circular needle size 7 mm with 2 strands Melody. Purl 1 row (= wrong side). Work next row as follows from right side: Work 4 band stitches in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above - * knit 1, purl 2 *, repeat from *-* until 5 stitches remain, knit 1 and finish with 4 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue rib like this – remember BUTTONHOLES on right band – read explanation above. When rib measures 3-3-3-4-4-4 cm, work next row as follows from right side: Work 4 band stitches in garter stitch, * knit 1, make 1 yarn over, purl 2, make 1 yarn over *, repeat from *-* until 5 stitches remain on needle, knit 1 and finish with 4 band stitches in garter stitch = 79-84-89-94-94-99 stitches on needle. Work back from wrong side with garter stitch over garter stitch, purl over purl and knit over knit (knit yarn overs twisted to avoid holes). Insert 1 marker on row. Work yoke as explained below, measure yoke from marker. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 12 mm. Work first row as follows from right side: Work 4 band stitches in garter stitch, work A.1A until 5 stitches remain on row (= 14-15-16-17-17-18 repetitions of 5 stitches), work A.1B (= 1 stitch) and finish with 4 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue pattern like this. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 7-8-9-9-10-10 cm from marker at the neck, work next row as follows from right side: Work 4 band stitches in garter stitch, continue A.1A over the first 5 stitches, work A.2 until 5 stitches remain on row (= 13-14-15-16-16-17 repetitions of 5 stitches), continue A.1B (= 1 stitch) and finish with 4 band stitches in garter stitch. When entire A.2 has been worked vertically, there are 131-140-149-158-158-167 stitches on needle. Work next row as follows from right side: Work 4 band stitches in garter stitch, continue A.1A over the first 5 stitches, work A.3 until 5 stitches remain on row (= 13-14-15-16-16-17 repetitions of 9 stitches), continue A.1B (= 1 stitch) and finish with 4 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue pattern like this until piece measures approx. 18-20-22-22-24-24 cm from marker at the neck. Knit 1 row from right side while increasing 0-3-6-5-13-16 stitches evenly - read INCREASE/DECREASE TIP = 131-143-155-163-171-183 stitches. Then work in stocking stitch back and forth (knit from right side, purl from wrong side) with 4 band stitches in garter stitch in each side towards mid front. When piece measures 20-22-24-25-27-29 cm from marker at the neck, divide yoke for body and sleeves. I.e. work next row from wrong side as follows: Work 24-26-27-29-31-33 stitches in garter stitch and stocking stitch as before (= front piece), slip the next 22-24-28-28-28-30 stitches on 1 stitch holder for sleeve, cast on 4-4-4-4-6-6 new stitches on row (= in the side under sleeve), work 39-43-45-49-53-57 stitches in stocking stitch as before (= back piece), slip the next 22-24-28-28-28-30 stitches on 1 stitch holder for sleeve, cast on 4-4-4-4-6-6 new stitches on row (= in the side under sleeve) and work the remaining 24-26-27-29-31-33 stitches in stocking stitch and garter stitch as before (= front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. NOW MEASURE THE PIECE FROM HERE! BODY: = 95-103-107-115-127-135 stitches. Work in stocking stitch back and forth with 4 band stitches in garter stitch in each side towards mid front until piece measures 28 cm from division (approx. 5 cm remain until finished measurements, try the jacket on and work to desired length). Knit 1 row from right side while decreasing 2-1-2-1-1-0 stitches evenly = 93-102-105-114-126-135 stitches. Switch to circular needle size 7 mm. Work next row as follows from wrong side: Work 4 band stitches in garter stitch, * purl 1, knit 2 *, repeat from *-* until 5 stitches remain on row, purl 1 and finish with 4 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue rib like this for 4 cm. Cast off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl - read CAST OFF TIP! Jacket measures approx. 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from shoulder and down. SLEEVE: Slip the 22-24-28-28-28-30 stitches from stitch holder in one side of piece on double pointed needles size 12 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 4-4-4-4-6-6 new stitches cast on under sleeve = 26-28-32-32-34-36 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 4-4-4-4-6-6 stitches under sleeve and move the marker thread upwards when working. Use marker later when increasing mid under sleeve. Begin round at the marker thread and work stocking stitch in the round. When piece measures 3 cm from division, increase 2 stitches mid under sleeve - read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 4½-5-7-4-4½-5 cm 8-7-5-8-7-6 times in total = 42-42-42-48-48-48 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 42-40-38-37-36-34 cm from division (approx. 5 cm remain before finished measurements, try the jacket on and work to desired length - read KNITTING TIP). NOTE! Shorter measurements in the larger sizes because of wider neck and longer yoke. On next round knit all stitches together 2 by 2 = 21-21-21-24-24-24 stitches. Switch to double pointed needles size 7 mm. Work rib in the round = knit 1/purl 2 for 4 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl - remember CAST-OFF TIP! Sleeve measures approx. 47-45-43-42-41-39 cm from division. Work the other sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons on to the left band. |
