------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH: Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows (7 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 5 GARTER STITCHES – see explanation above. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows (7 stitches): Work until there are 7 stitches left on the row, work 5 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.7. The diagrams are worked from right to left when working from the right side and left to right when working from the wrong side. DECREASE TIP-1 (for cables): From the right side, decrease 2 stitches in each cable (6 cable-stitches become 4 stocking stitches): Knit 2 twisted together, knit 2, knit 2 together. DECREASE TIP-2 (for V-neck): All decreases are worked from right side. AFTER 14 STITCHES: Purl 2 twisted together (1 decreased stitch), work to end of row as before. BEFORE 14 STITCHES: Work until there are 16 stitches left on row, purl 2 together (1 decreased stitch), work to end of row as before. DECREASE TIP-3 (for armholes): All decreases are worked from right side. AFTER 9 STITCHES: Purl 2 twisted together (1 decreased stitch), work to end of row as before. BEFORE 9 STITCHES: Work until there are 11 stitches left on row, purl 2 together (1 decreased stitch), work to end of row as before. DECREASE TIP-4 (mid-under sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker as follows: Work until there are 10 stitches left before the marker, purl 2 together, work 16 stitches as before (marker sits in the middle of these 16 stitches), purl 2 twisted together (2 stitches decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band from the right side (band = 7 stitches): ROW 1 (right side): Knit together the 4th and 5th stitch from the edge, make 1 yarn over, work the rest of the row as before. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knitting the yarn over to leave a hole. Work the first buttonhole when the piece 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm, then when the piece measures: XS: 10, 17, 24 and 30 cm S: 10, 16, 23 and 29 cm M: 10, 17, 24 and 31 cm L: 11, 18, 25 and 33 cm XL: 11, 18, 25 and 32 cm XXL: 12, 19, 27 and 34 cm XXXL: 12, 20, 28 and 36 cm ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is worked back and forth, bottom up as far as the armholes. It is then divided and the front and back pieces are finished separately, back and forth. After casting off the shoulder stitches, the bands are continued. The shoulder seams are sewn and the bands sewn together mid-back, then the bands are sewn to the neckline. Stitches are knitted up around the armholes and the sleeves started back and forth for the sleeve cap, then finished in the round. BODY: Cast on 268-300-332-332-364-396-428 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm, 1 strand DROPS Sky and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work rib as follows: ROW 1 (right side): 7 stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, rib (knit 2 and purl 2) until there are 9 stitches left, knit 2 and work 7 stitches according to bands with I-cord. ROW 2 (wrong side): 7 stitches according to bands with I-cord, work rib (purl 2, knit 2) until there are 9 stitches left, purl 2 and 7 stitches according to bands with I-cord. Repeat ROWS 1 and 2 until the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm. Now work PATTERN – read explanation above. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm and work as follows from the right side (the pattern should fit nicely across the rib): 7 band-stitches as before, work A.1 7-8-9-9-10-11-12 times, then A.2, insert 1 marker-thread before the next stitch (= side of body), work A.3, then A.4 6-7-8-8-9-10-11 times, A.5 (mid-back is between the last 2 purled stitches in A.5), work A.1 7-8-9-9-10-11-12-times, then A.2, insert 1 marker-thread before the next stitch (= side of body), work A.3, then A.4 7-8-9-9-10-11-12 times and 7 band-stitches as before. Continue this pattern back and forth. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the piece measures 30-32-31-33-35-33-35 cm with the next row from the right side, decrease 2-2-2-2-2-2-4 stitches on each side of both marker-threads (2 stitches in each of the 1-1-1-1-1-1-2 cables nearest the marker-threads) – read DECREASE TIP-1 (8-8-8-8-8-8-16 decreased stitches) = 260-292-324-324-356-388-412 stitches. DIVIDE FOR THE ARMHOLES: On the next row (wrong side), divide for the front and back pieces as follows: Work the first 63-71-79-79-87-95-95 stitches as before (= left front piece), cast off the next 10-10-10-10-10-10-22 stitches for the armhole, work the next 114-130-146-146-162-178-178 stitches (= back-piece), cast off the next 10-10-10-10-10-10-22 stitches for the armhole, work the last 63-71-79-79-87-95-95 stitches as before (= right front piece). Do not cut the strand. The front and back pieces are finished separately. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: = 63-71-79-79-87-95-95 stitches. Continue the pattern, with the outermost stitch by the armhole worked in garter stitch. AT THE SAME TIME, on the next row from the right side begin decreasing for the V-neck and armhole. Read the next 2 sections before continuing. V-NECK: Decrease for the V-neck after the first 14 stitches on the row (= 7 band-stitches, 6 cable-stitches, 1 purled stitch) – read DECREASE TIP-2. Decrease like this every 2nd row 12-12-12-12-12-18-18 times, then every 4th row 4-4-4-4-4-6-6 times (16-16-16-16-16-24-24 stitches decreased for the V-neck). ARMHOLE: Decrease for the armhole before the last 9 stitches (= 1 purled stitch, 6 cable-stitches, 1 purled stitch, 1 garter stitch) – read DECREASE TIP-3. Decrease like this every 2nd row 6-12-22-22-22-20-20 times, then every 4th row 2-4-2-2-2-4-4 times (8-16-24-24-24-24-24 stitches decreased for the armhole). After all the decreases, there are 39-39-39-39-47-47-47 stitches (= 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cables + band-stitches + 1 garter stitch by the armhole). Continue working until the piece measures 49-51-53-55-57-59-61 cm from the cast-on edge. Now place stitches on a stitch holder for the diagonal shoulder as follows. NOTE: To avoid cutting the working strand, work the stitches before placing them on the holder. Start from the wrong side by the armhole and place the first 8 stitches on the holder 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 times every 2nd row = 32-32-32-32-40-40-40 stitches on the holder and 7 band-stitches on the needle. Continue back and forth across the 7 band-stitches as before for a further 7-7-7-7-7-10-10 cm. Cast off. LEFT FRONT PIECE: = 63-71-79-79-87-95-95 stitches. Continue the pattern, with the outermost stitch by the armhole worked in garter stitch. AT THE SAME TIME, on the next row from the right side begin decreasing for the V-neck and armhole. Read the next 2 sections before continuing. ARMHOLE: Decrease for the armhole after the first 9 stitches (= 1 garter stitch, 1 purled stitch, 6 cable-stitches, 1 purled stitch) – remember DECREASE TIP-3. Decrease like this every 2nd row 6-12-22-22-22-20-20 times, then every 4th row 2-4-2-2-2-4-4 times (8-16-24-24-24-24-24 stitches decreased for the armhole). V-NECK: Decrease for the V-neck before the last 14 stitches on the row (= 1 purled stitch, 6 cable-stitches, 7 band-stitches) – remember DECREASE TIP-2. Decrease like this every 2nd row 12-12-12-12-12-18-18 times, then every 4th row 4-4-4-4-4-6-6 times (16-16-16-16-16-24-24 stitches decreased for the V-neck). Start from the right side by the armhole and place the first 8 stitches on the holder 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 times every 2nd row = 32-32-32-32-40-40-40 stitches on the holder + 7 band-stitches on the needle. Continue back and forth across the 7 band-stitches as before for a further 7-7-7-7-7-10-10 cm. Cast off. BACK PIECE: = 114-130-146-146-162-178-178 stitches. Continue the pattern back and forth, with the outermost stitch on each side worked in garter stitch. AT THE SAME TIME on the next row from the right side, begin decreasing for the armholes; decrease 1 stitch on each side - remember DECREASE TIP-3. Decrease like this every 2nd row 6-12-22-22-22-20-20 times, then every 4th row 2-4-2-2-2-4-4 times (8-16-24-24-24-24-24 stitches decreased by each armhole) = 98-98-98-98-114-130-130 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 49-51-53-55-57-59-61 cm. OVERVIEW OF NEXT SECTION: You now decrease for the neck and place stitches on stitch holders for the diagonal shoulders; Read the next 2 sections before continuing. NECK: On the next row from the right side, decrease 2 stitches across each of the middle 4-4-4-4-4-6-6 cables – remember DECREASE TIP-1 (8-8-8-8-8-12-12 decreased stitches). On the next row (wrong side), cast off the middle 22-22-22-22-22-34-34 stitches for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately = 34-34-34-34-42-42-42 stitches. Continue the pattern back and forth, decreasing 1 stitch 2 times at the beginning of each row from the neck. SHOULDERS: AT THE SAME TIME, when the piece measures 49-51-53-55-57-59-61 cm from the cast-on edge, place stitches on a stitch holder for the diagonal shoulder as follows. Start from the armhole and place the first 8 stitches on the holder 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 times every 2nd row (working the stitches first and the other stitches on the row as before) = 32-32-32-32-40-40-40 stitches on the holder. Cut the strand. Work the other shoulder in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Place one set of shoulder stitches on needle size 3.5 mm. Knit 1 row from the wrong side, decreasing 8-8-8-8-10-10-10 stitches evenly spaced = 24-24-24-24-30-30-30 stitches (to avoid holes where stitches were on the holder, pick up the strand between 2 stitches and knit it twisted together with the first stitch on the left needle). Cast off slightly loosely with knit from the right side. Repeat on each shoulder. Sew the shoulder-seams inside the cast-off edges, leaving 2 purled rows mid-top of shoulder. Sew the bands together mid-back, then sew the bands to the neckline. Sew the buttons onto the left band. SLEEVES: The sleeve is worked top down. Lay the piece flat and insert 1 marker in the middle of the cast-on stitches under the sleeve and 1 marker in the shoulder-line. Use circular needle size 3.5 mm and knit up tightly or use a smaller needle size. KNIT UP STITCHES AS FOLLOWS: Start by the bottom marker and knit up 96-96-112-112-112-128-128 stitches around the armhole, with equal numbers of stitches between the markers. Work the first round as follows: A.6 6-6-7-7-7-8-8 times, marker, A.7 6-6-7-7-7-8-8 times. Continue this pattern but now working short rows for the sleeve cap as follows (to give the sleeve a better fit). SLEEVE CAP: Start mid-under the sleeve. ROW 1 (right side): Work to 9 stitches past the marker on top of the sleeve, turn – read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work to 9 stitches past the marker, turn. ROW 3 (right side): Work to 2 stitches past the previous turn, turn. ROW 4 (wrong side): Work to 2 stitches past the previous turn, turn. Repeat ROWS 3 and 4 until you have turned a total of 26-34-40-40-40-40-48 times (13-17-20-20-20-20-24 times each side, with the last row from the wrong side). NOTE: As more and more stitches are worked into the pattern and you begin new cables, make sure to begin the cables on the same row and when turning in the middle of a cable, delay the cabling to the next time cabling is shown in the diagram. Remember to cable as shown in A.6 before the marker and as shown in A.7 after the marker (from the wrong side, knit above knit and purl above purl). AFTER THE LAST TURN: After the last time you work row 4, turn and work from the right side to the beginning of the round (mid-under the sleeve). SLEEVE CONTINUED: Continue the pattern in the round. AT THE SAME TIME after the first round, decrease mid-under the sleeve 2 stitches 2 times every 2nd round, then decrease 2 stitches 6 times every 1½ cm – read DECREASE TIP-4 = 80-80-96-96-96-112-112 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 53-54-55-56-53-51-52 cm from the shoulder-marker. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 2 and purl 2), making sure the rib fits the cabled pattern in the same way as on the body. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm, cast off slightly loosely with knit over knit and purl over purl. The sleeve measures approx. 56-57-58-59-57-55-56 cm from the shoulder. |
