---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (when working back and forth): Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. BAND WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work band as follows (= 6 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1 and work 4 stitches in garter stitch. END OF ROW: Work band as follows (= 6 stitches): Work until 6 stitches remain on row, work 4 stitches in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. Continue like this on right side and wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 5 stitches remain on row as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work band as before and knit yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease for first buttonhole on first row from right side after neck edge has been worked. Then decrease the next 5-5-5-5-6-6-6 buttonholes, approx. 8-8-8½-9-7½-8-8 cm apart. Adjust so that bottom buttonhole is placed in the transition between stocking stitch and rib on body. ELEVATION: To make the jacket higher in the back of neck when working round yoke, knit an elevation as explained below. Skip this paragraph if you do not want an elevation. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of row (= mid back), read KNITTING TIP and work the next 6 rows back and forth as follows: ROW 1 (from right side): Work as before until 13-14-15-16-17-18-19 stitches have been worked past the marker thread mid back, turn piece. ROW 2: Purl 26-28-30-32-34-36-38 stitches, turn piece. ROW 3: Knit 39-42-45-48-51-54-57 stitches, turn piece. ROW 4: Purl 52-56-60-64-68-72-76 stitches, turn piece. ROW 5: Knit 65-70-75-80-85-90-95 stitches, turn piece. ROW 6: Purl 78-84-90-96-102-108-114 stitches, turn piece. Knit the entire row (work band as before), turn and purl 1 row (work band as before). Then work yoke as explained in pattern. KNITTING TIP: When working short rows there will be a small hole when turning the piece - the hole can be closed by tightening the yarn or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip first stitch purlwise. Place strand over right needle and tighten well at the back (should lead to two loops on needle). Work these loops together on next row. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Choose diagram for correct size. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. INCREASE TIP-1: To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 138 stitches), minus 20 stitches in each side (because there are no increases over the outermost 20 stitches in each side) and divide the remaining stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 10) = 9.8. In this example increase from right side by making 1 yarn over after approx. every 10th stitch (do not increase over the outermost 20 stitches in each side towards mid front, this is important to keep mid front as a straight line when working a round yoke). On next row purl yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. INCREASE TIP-2: All increases are done from right side. Increase 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 5 stitches remain before marker thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 10 (marker thread is in the middle of these 10 stitches), make 1 yarn over (= 2 stitches increased). On next row purl yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, work top down. Work an elevation at the back of neck if you want. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. If 0 is given for the chosen size, it means that you skip the information until next information. NECK EDGE: Cast on 138-142-146-154-158-166-174 stitches on circular needle size 2.5 mm with DROPS Nord. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Work next row as follows from right side: Work 6 stitches BAND WITH I-CORD - read explanation above, work rib (knit 2, purl 2) until 8 stitches remain, knit 2 and 6 stitches band with I-cord. Continue rib like this until neck edge measures 2-2-2½-2½-3-3-3 cm. Insert 1 marker on the inside of band in one side of piece, measure piece from this marker. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 3 mm and work first row from mid front as follows: Work band as before, work 126-130-134-142-146-154-162 stitches in stocking stitch while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 10-10-12-12-14-14-16 stitches evenly over these stitches – read INCREASE TIP -1, work band as before– remember BUTTONHOLES – read explanation above = 148-152-158-166-172-180-190 stitches on needle. Purl 1 row from wrong side with bands as before. Now work an ELEVATION at the back of neck - read explanation above, then work as explained below. If you do not want an elevation, continue as explained below. Now work PATTERN – see explanation above and work as follows: Work 6 stitches band as before, work A.1 until 6 stitches remain, work 6 stitches band as before. Continue pattern like this. Remember to follow the knitting tension! AT THE SAME TIME on every row marked with arrow in A.1 increase stitches evenly as explained below - remember INCREASE TIP-1 (do not increase over the outermost 20 stitches in each side): Arrow-1: Increase 26-30-32-36-38-38-40 stitches evenly = 174-182-190-202-210-218-230 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 36-40-44-50-54-52-56 stitches evenly = 210-222-234-252-264-270-286 stitches. Arrow-3: Increase 36-40-44-50-56-52-56 stitches evenly = 246-262-278-302-320-322-342 stitches. Arrow-4: Increase 36-40-44-50-56-52-56 stitches evenly = 282-302-322-352-376-374-398 stitches. Arrow-5: Increase 36-40-44-50-56-52-56 stitches evenly = 318-342-366-402-432-426-454 stitches. Arrow-6: Increase 0-0-0-0-0-52-56 stitches evenly = 318-342-366-402-432-478-510 stitches. When A.1 has been worked, yoke measures approx. 13-13-13-16-16-19-19 cm from marker. Work in stocking stitch and band. When yoke measures 15-15-16-18-18-21-22 cm from marker, increase 38-42-42-50-56-54-54 stitches evenly – remember INCREASE TIP-1= 356-384-408-452-488-532-564 stitches. When yoke measures 18-18-19-20-21-23-25 cm from marker mid front, divide piece for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work 54-59-63-69-74-82-89 stitches as before (= front piece), slip the next 76-80-84-94-102-108-110 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12-14 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 96-106-114-126-136-152-166 stitches in stocking stitch (= back piece), slip the next 76-80-84-94-102-108-110 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12-14 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), and work the last 54-59-63-69-74-82-89 stitches as before (= front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 220-240-260-284-308-340-372 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in each side on body, in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-12-12-14 stitches cast on under each sleeve and move the marker thread when working, use the marker threads when increasing in the side on body. Work back and forth from mid front over all stitches with stocking stitch and band as before. When piece measures 6-6-6-6-8-8-8 cm from division, increase 1 stitch on each side of both marker threads - read INCREASE TIP-2 (= 4 stitches increased). Increase like this every 6-6-6-6-8-8-8 cm 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 times in total = 232-252-272-296-324-356-388 stitches. Work until piece measures 39-41-43-44-45-47-49 cm from marker mid front. On next row from right side begin rib while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 14-14-18-18-22-22-26 stitches evenly on row (do not increase over bands) = 246-266-290-314-346-378-414 stitches, work as follows: Switch to circular needle size 2.5 mm, work band as before, work rib (= knit 2/2 stitches in garter stitch - remember increase) until 8 stitches remain, knit 2 and band as before. When rib measures 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 cm cast off all stitches somewhat loosely by knitting from right side. Jacket measures 41-43-45-46-48-50-52 cm from marker mid front and approx. 46-48-50-52-54-56-58 cm from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 76-80-84-94-102-108-110 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 3 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-10-10-12-12-14 stitches cast on under sleeve- read SLEEVE TIP = 84-88-94-104-114-120-124 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-12-12-14 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread. Work in stocking stitch in the round on needle while AT THE SAME TIME when sleeve measures 1 cm from division, decreasing mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 2-2-2-2-2-1-0 times on every 3-3-3-3-3-2-0 cm in total = 80-84-90-100-110-118-124 stitches on needle. Work until sleeve measures 7-7-7-7-6-4-2 cm from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and work rib (= knit 2/2 stitches in garter stitch) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 4-4-6-4-6-6-8 stitches evenly on 1st round = 84-88-96-104-116-124-132 stitches. When rib measures 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 cm cast off somewhat loosely by knitting. Sleeve measures approx. 9-9-9-9-9-7-5 cm from division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons on to the left band. |
