------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 5 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Work until there are 7 stitches left on the row, work 5 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.5. The diagrams are read from right to left when working from the right side and left to right when working from the wrong side. DECREASE TIP-1 (for cables): Decrease 2 stitches in each cable from the right side (6 cable-stitches become 4 stocking stitches): Knit 2 twisted together, knit 2, knit 2 together (2 decreased stitches). DECREASE TIP-2 (for V-neck): All decreases are worked from the right side. DECREASE AFTER 14 STITCHES: Purl 2 twisted together (1 decreased stitch), work to end of row as before. DECREASE BEFORE 14 STITCHES: Work until there are 16 stitches left on the row, purl 2 together (1 decreased stitch), work to end of row as before. DECREASE TIP-3 (for armholes): All decreases are worked from the right side. DECREASE AFTER 9 STITCHES: Purl 2 twisted together (1 decreased stitch), work to end of row as before. DECREASE BEFORE 9 STITCHES: Work until there are 11 stitches left on the row, purl 2 together (1 decreased stitch), work to end of row as before. DECREASE TIP-4 (for sleeve-edges): Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker, purl 2 together, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), purl 2 twisted together (2 decreased stitches). BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band from the right side: ROW 1 (right side): Knit together 4th and 5th stitch from the edge, make 1 yarn over, work to end of row as before. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked when the piece measures 3-3-4-4-4-5-5 cm. Work the other buttonholes when the piece measures: XS: 9, 15 and 22 cm S: 10, 17 and 24 cm M: 11, 18 and 25 cm L: 11, 18 and 26 cm XL: 11, 18 and 26 cm XXL: 12, 19 and 27 cm XXXL: 13, 21 and 28 cm ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is worked back and forth from mid-front bottom up as far as the armholes, then divided for the front and back pieces which are finished separately. After the shoulders are finished the bands are continued to the correct length. The shoulder seams are sewn, the bands are sewn together mid-back and sewn to the neckline. Stitches are knitted up around the armholes and the sleeve-edges worked in the round to finish BODY: Cast on 268-300-332-332-364-396-428 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm and 1 strand DROPS Nord or 1 strand DROPS Alpaca held together with 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work rib as follows: ROW 1 (right side): 7 stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, rib (knit 2, purl 2) until there are 9 stitches left on the row, knit 2 and work 7 stitches according to Bands with I-cord. ROW 2 (wrong side): 7 stitches according to Bands with I-cord, rib (purl 2, knit 2) until there are 9 stitches left on the row, purl 2 and work 7 stitches according to Bands with I-cord. Work ROWS 1 and 2 until the rib measures 3-3-3-4-4-5-5 cm. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm and work PATTERN – read explanation above, starting from the right side as follows (the pattern should fit neatly above the rib): Work the 7 band-stitches as before, work A.1 7-8-9-9-10-11-12 times, A.2, insert 1 marker before the next stitch (= side of body), work A.3, then A.4 6-7-8-8-9-10-11 times, A.5 (= mid-back), work A.1 7-8-9-9-10-11-12-times, A.2, insert 1 marker before the next stitch (= side of body), A.3, then A.4 7-8-9-9-10-11-12 times and 7 band-stitches as before. Continue this pattern. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the piece measures 23-25-26-27-27-28-29 cm, with the next row from the right side, decrease 2-2-2-2-2-2-4 stitches on each side of both marker-threads by decreasing 2 stitches in each of the 1-1-1-1-1-1-2 cables nearest the marker-thread – read DECREASE TIP (8-8-8-8-8-8-16 decreased stitches) = 260-292-324-324-356-388-412 stitches. Now divide for the armholes. DIVIDE FOR ARMHOLES: On the next row from the wrong side, divide for the front and back pieces as follows: Work the first 63-71-79-79-87-95-95 stitches as before (= left front piece), cast off the next 10-10-10-10-10-10-22 stitches, work the next 114-130-146-146-162-178-178 stitches as before (= back piece), cast off the next 10-10-10-10-10-10-22 stitches, work the last 63-71-79-79-87-95-95 stitches as before (= right front piece), do not cut the strand. The front and back pieces are finished separately. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: = 63-71-79-79-87-95-95 stitches. Continue the pattern back and forth, with the outermost stitch by the armhole worked in GARTER STITCH – read explanation above. AT THE SAME TIME, on the next row from the right side begin to decrease for the V-neck and armhole: read both sections before continuing: V-NECK: Decrease for the V-neck after the first 14 stitches (7 band stitches, 6 cable-stitches, 1 purled stitch) – read DECREASE TIP-2. Decrease like this every 2nd row 12-12-12-12-12-18-18 times, then every 4th row 4-4-4-4-4-6-6 times (16-16-16-16-16-24-24 decreased stitches for the V-neck). ARMHOLE: Decrease for the armhole before the last 9 stitches (1 purled stitch, 6 cable-stitches, 1 purled stitch, 1 garter stitch) – read DECREASE TIP-3. Decrease like this every 2nd row 6-12-22-22-22-20-20 times, then every 4th row 2-4-2-2-2-4-4 times (8-16-24-24-24-24-24 decreased stitches for the armhole). After all the decreases, there are 39-39-39-39-47-47-47 stitches (the band, 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cables and 1 garter stitch). Continue working until the piece measures 46-49-51-53-55-57-59 cm from the cast-on edge. The stitches are now placed on a stitch holder/thread for the diagonal shoulder. Start from the wrong side by the armhole, place the first 8 stitches on the stitch holder 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 times. NOTE: To avoid cutting the strand, work the stitches before placing them on the holder = 32-32-32-32-40-40-40 stitches on the holder and 7 band-stitches on the needle. Continue back and forth across the band-sttiches for 7-7-7-7-7-10-10 cm, cast off. LEFT FRONT PIECE: = 63-71-79-79-87-95-95 stitches. Continue the pattern back and forth, with the outermost stitch by the armhole worked in garter stitch. AT THE SAME TIME, on the next row from the right side begin to decrease for the armhole and V-neck: read both sections before continuing: ARMHOLE: Decrease for the armhole after the first 9 stitches (1 garter stitch, 1 purled stitch, 6 cable-stitches, 1 purled stitch) – remember DECREASE TIP-3. Decrease like this every 2nd row 6-12-22-22-22-20-20 times, then every 4th row 2-4-2-2-2-4-4 times (= 8-16-24-24-24-24-24 stitches decreased for the armhole) V-NECK: Decrease for the V-neck before the last 14 stitches (1 purled stitch, 6 cable-stitches, 7 band stitches) – remember DECREASE TIP-2. Decrease like this every 2nd row 12-12-12-12-12-18-18 times, then every 4th row 4-4-4-4-4-6-6 times (= 16-16-16-16-16-24-24 stitches decreased for the V-neck). Start from the right side by the armhole, place the first 8 stitches on the stitch holder 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 times. NOTE: To avoid cutting the strand, work the stitches before placing them on the holder = 32-32-32-32-40-40-40 stitches on the holder and 7 band-stitches on the needle. Continue back and forth across the band-stitches for 7-7-7-7-7-10-10 cm, cast off. BACK PIECE: = 114-130-146-146-162-178-178 stitches. Continue the pattern back and forth, with the outermost stitch on each side worked in garter stitch. AT THE SAME TIME, on the next row from the right side, decrease 1 stitch on each side for the armholes – remember DECREASE TIP-3. Decrease like this every 2nd row 6-12-22-22-22-20-20 times, then every 4th row 2-4-2-2-2-4-4 times = 98-98-98-98-114-130-130 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 46-49-51-53-55-57-59 cm. OVERVIEW OF NEXT SECTION: Now decrease for the neckline and place stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the diagonal shoulders. Read the next 2 sections before continuing. NECKLINE: On the next row from the right side, decrease 2 stitches in each of the 4-4-4-4-4-6-6 middle cables – remember DECREASE TIP-1 (8-8-8-8-8-12-12 decreased stitches). On the next row cast off the middle 22-22-22-22-22-34-34 stitches for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately = 34-34-34-34-42-42-42 stitches. Continue the pattern and cast off 1 stitch for the neckline at the beginning of the next 2 rows from the neck. SHOULDER: AT THE SAME TIME, when the piece measures 46-49-51-53-55-57-59 cm, place the shoulder-stitches on a stitch holder/thread in the same way as on the front pieces, i.e., from the armhole, place the outermost 8 stitches on the holder 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 times = 32-32-32-32-40-40-40 stitches on the holder. Cut the strand. Work the other shoulder in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Place one set of shoulder-stitches back on needle size 3.5 mm. Knit 1 row from the wrong side and decrease 8-8-8-8-10-10-10 stitches evenly on the row = 24-24-24-24-30-30-30 stitches. To avoid holes where the stitches were placed on the holder, pick up the strand between 2 stitches and knit twisted together with the first stitch on the next row. Cast off slightly loosely with knit from the right side. Repeat on each shoulder. Sew the shoulder seams inside the cast-off edge = 2 purled rows along the seam on the right side. Sew the bands together mid-back. Sew the bands to the neckline. Sew the buttons onto the left band. SLEEVE-EDGES: Insert 1 marker at the bottom of the armhole and 1 marker in the shoulder seam. Start at the bottom of the armhole with circular needle size 3 mm. Knit up 104-112-112-120-128-136-144 stitches around the armhole, inside 1 stitch (the stitch count should be divisible by 8). Make sure there are equal numbers of stitches on each side of the armhole, with 1 knitted stitch on each side of both markers. Work rib in the round as follows: Knit 1, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from until there are 3 stitches left, purl 2 and knit 1. Continue this rib and on every 2nd round decrease 1 stitch on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP-4. Decrease like this every 2nd round until the rib measures 3-3-3-4-4-4-4 cm and the rib has returned to knit 2, purl 2. Cast off with rib. |
