DROPS 205-5 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 46 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g. 12) = 3.8. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. Choose diagram for your size. Note: In diagrams A.1 and A.2 increase in the leaf pattern as shown; follow the diagrams carefully. In addition, the stitches that have been increased for raglan are included in the diagrams (the actual increases to raglan are not part of the diagrams). RAGLAN: Increase to raglan in each transition between body and sleeves as follows: Increase after/before the stitch with the marker by making 1 yarn over (= 1 stitch increased on each side of the stitch with the marker and a total of 8 stitches increased on the round). On the next round, the yarn overs which are towards the front and back pieces are purled twisted to avoid holes. The yarn overs towards the sleeves are knitted twisted to avoid holes. The stitches with markers (= raglan-stitches) are knitted all the way through the yoke. DECREASE TIP (for mid under sleeve): Start 3 stitches before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------ START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down. The yoke is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked in the round with double pointed needles, top down. NECK: Cast on 46-48-50-52-54 stitches with short circular needle size 8 mm and Snow or Wish. Knit 1 round then work rib in the round (= knit / purl 1) for 3 cm. Knit 1 round where you increase 12-10-8-12-12 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 58-58-58-64-66 stitches. Work yoke as described below. YOKE: Now insert 4 markers in the piece as described below; these mark the raglan-stitches and will be used when increasing to raglan. NOTE: Insert the markers without working the stitches. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round, count 6-6-6-7-8 stitches (= right sleeve when garment is worn), insert 1 marker in the next stitch, count 21-21-21-23-23 stitches (= front piece), insert 1 marker in the next stitch, count 6-6-6-7-8 stitches (= left sleeve) and insert 1 marker in the next stitch. There are 21-21-21-23-23 stitches left after the last marker on the back piece. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the front piece; the yoke is measured from here. Change to circular needle size 9 mm and work the next round as follows: Knit the stitch with the marker (= raglan-stitch), increase to RAGLAN after this stitch – read description above, work stocking stitch over the sleeve stitches, increase to raglan on each side of the next raglan-stitch, work A.1 over the first 14-14-14-15-15 stitches on the front piece and A.2 over the remaining 7-7-7-8-8 stitches on the front piece, increase to raglan on each side of the next raglan-stitch, work stocking stitch over the sleeve stitches, increase to raglan on each side of the next raglan-stitch, work A.1 over the first 14-14-14-15-15 stitches on the back piece and A.2 over the remaining 7-7-7-8-8 stitches on the back piece and increase to raglan before the next raglan-stitch. Continue with this PATTERN– read description above. AT THE SAME TIME continue to increase to raglan on each side of the 4 raglan-stitches every 2nd round a total of 9-11-11-14-14 times (including the first increase described on the first round) – the new stitches on the front and back pieces are worked into the pattern as shown in A.1 and A.2. The new stitches on the sleeves are worked in stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! After all increases to raglan there are 154-170-170-204-206 stitches on the needle. Continue the pattern as shown in the diagrams without further increases to raglan. When the last row in A.1 and A.2 remains, the piece measures approx. 20-23-23-26-26 cm from the marker thread on the front piece. Now divide the yoke for body and sleeves by working the next round as follows: Place the first 26-30-30-37-38 stitches on 1 thread for sleeve (i.e. the first and second raglan-stitches + the 24-28-28-35-36 stitches between them) cast on 4-4-8-4-8 new stitches on the needle (= in side under sleeve) work the last row in A.1 and A.2 over the 51-55-55-65-65 stitches on the front piece, place the next 26-30-30-37-38 stitches on 1 thread for sleeve (i.e. the third and fourth raglan-stitches + the 24-28-28-35-36 stitches between them), cast on 4-4-8-4-8 new stitches on the needle (= in side under sleeve) and work the last row in A.1 and A.2 over the remaining 51-55-55-65-65 stitches on the back piece. Body and sleeves are finished separately. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! BODY: = 110-118-126-138-146 stitches. Work to the middle of the 4-4-8-4-8 stitches cast on under the sleeve. The round now starts here and is worked as follows: Purl 2-2-4-2-4 stitches, work A.3 over the next 29-33-33-37-37 stitches, A.4 over the next 22-22-22-28-28 stitches, purl 4-4-8-4-8 stitches (= in the side), work A.3 over the next 29-33-33-37-37 stitches, A.4 over the next 22-22-22-28-28 stitches and finish with purl 2-2-4-2-4 stitches. Continue this pattern. When A.3 and A.4 have been completed in height, purl all stitches. Work until the piece measures 30-30-32-30-32 cm from the division (there is approx. 3 cm left to finished length; try the jumper on and work to desired length). Knit 1 round and then change to circular needle size 8 mm. Work rib (= knit 1 / purl 1) for 3 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. The jumper measures approx. 57-60-62-64-66 cm from the shoulder down. SLEEVE: Place the 26-30-30-37-38 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on double pointed needles size 9 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 4-4-8-4-8 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 30-34-38-41-46 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 4-4-8-4-8 stitches under the sleeve and allow it to follow your work onwards; it will be used when decreasing mid under sleeve. Work stocking stitch in the round - REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! (the sleeve must not be worked too tight). When the sleeve measures 4-4-3-3-3 cm from the division decrease 2 stitches mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 8-4-3-2-1½ cm a total of 2-3-4-5-7 times = 26-28-30-31-32 stitches. When the sleeve measures 16-16-16-15-15 cm from the division increase 4 stitches evenly spaced in all sizes = 30-32-34-35-36 stitches. Repeat the increase when the sleeve measures 18-18-18-17-17 cm from the division = 34-36-38-39-40 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 37-35-35-33-33 cm from the division (there is 5 cm left to finished length; you can try the jumper on and work to desired length). NOTE: Shorter measurements in larger sizes due to wider neck and longer yoke. Knit 1 round where you decrease 0-0-0-1-0 stitches = 34-36-38-38-40 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 8 mm and work rib (= knit 1 / purl 1) for 5 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. The sleeve measures approx. 42-40-40-38-38 cm from the division. Work the other sleeve in the same way. |
