------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH: Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. INCREASE TIP-3: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over. On the next round knit the yarn over twisted to avoid a hole. KNITTING TIP: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. 2 bands are worked to begin with (back of neck). Then stitches are knitted up along one side of the band and the back piece is worked top down, while increasing stitches on each side for the shoulders until the correct stitch count is achieved. The back piece has slightly diagonal shoulders. The back piece is continued as far as the armholes. The front pieces are begun by knitting up stitches along one back shoulder, then the band stitches are placed on the needle. The front piece is worked top down while increasing for the V-neck. This is repeated on the other shoulder. After the armholes, the front and back pieces are joined on the same circular needle and the body is continued back and forth. Stitches are knitted up around the armholes for the sleeves, which are started back and forth for the sleeve cap, then finished in the round. The belt is worked to finish. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. RIGHT BAND: Cast on 13-13-13-15-15-17-17 stitches with circular needle size 8 mm, 1 strand DROPS Melody and 1 strand DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk (2 strands) or 3 strands DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk. Work as follows: ROW 1 (wrong side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, purl 8-8-8-10-10-12-12, work 1 GARTER STITCH – read explanation above. ROW 2 (right side): Work 1 garter stitch, knit 8-8-8-10-10-12-12, purl 1, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. ROW 3 (wrong side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, purl 5-5-5-7-7-9-9, turn. ROW 4 (right side): Read KNITTING TIP, knit 5-5-5-7-7-9-9, purl 1, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. Work ROWS 1 to 4 until the band measures 6½-6½-6½-7½-7½-7½-7½ cm along the garter-stitch edge (the band measures approx. 13-13-13-15-15-15-15 cm along the I-cord edge), finishing after a row from the wrong side across all stitches. AT THE SAME TIME on the last row, decrease the garter stitch by purling the last 2 stitches together = 12-12-12-14-14-16-16 band-stitches. Place these stitches on a stitch holder. LEFT BAND: Knit up 1 stitch in each of the 13-13-13-15-15-17-17 cast-on stitches on the right band, making sure the stitches are aligned. ROW 1 (wrong side): Work 1 garter stitch, purl 8-8-8-10-10-12-12, knit 2, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (right side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, purl 1, knit 5-5-5-7-7-9-9, turn. ROW 3 (wrong side): Remember KNITTING TIP, purl 5-5-5-7-7-9-9, knit 2, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. ROW 4 (right side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, purl 1, knit 8-8-8-10-10-12-12, work 1 garter stitch. Repeat ROWS 1 to 4 until the band measures 6½-6½-6½-7½-7½-7½-7½ cm along the garter-stitch edge (the band measures approx. 13-13-13-15-15-15-15 cm along the I-cord edge), finishing after a row from the wrong side across all stitches. AT THE SAME TIME on the last row, decrease the garter stitch by purling the first 2 stitches twisted together = 12-12-12-14-14-16-16 band-stitches. Place these stitches on a stitch holder. The band measures a total of 13-13-13-15-15-15-15 cm. Now knit up stitches for the back piece and work as follows. BACK PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth. Use circular needle size 8 mm, 1 strand DROPS Melody and 1 strand DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk (2 strands) or 3 strands DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk. Knit up 16-16-16-18-18-18-18 stitches along the side of the band with the garter-stitch edge (from the right side and inside the garter stitch), making sure there are equal numbers of stitches on each side of the seam mid-back (do not work across the 12-12-12-14-14-16-16 stitches on each holder). ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl. ROW 2 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 2, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 2 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 2. ROW 3 (wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2. Purl 2, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl until there are 2 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl 2. AFTER ROW 3: Work ROWS 2 and 3 a total of 9-10-10-11-11-12-13 times (18-20-20-22-22-24-26 rows worked) = 52-56-56-62-62-66-70 stitches. Insert 1 marker outermost on one side. The piece is now measured from here! Continue with stocking stitch - remember to maintain the knitting tension - until the piece measures 10-8-6-8-6-4-4 cm from the marker and down the armhole. Now increase for the armholes. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLES: ROW 1 (right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 4, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 4 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 4. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 1-2-4-3-5-6-7 times (2-4-8-6-10-12-14 rows worked) = 54-60-64-68-72-78-84 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 11-11-12-12-13-13-14 cm from the marker and down the armhole, finishing after a row from the right side. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. Work the left front piece along the left back shoulder as follows. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Find the left back shoulder as follows: Lay the back piece flat, right side up, with the stitch holder/thread towards you; left side of piece = left shoulder. Start with the left band and work as follows across the 12-12-12-14-14-16-16 stitches from the right side: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, purl 1, knit, 8-8-8-10-10-12-12, then knit up 1 stitch in each row worked on the left back shoulder, from the neck to the armhole (18-20-20-22-22-24-26 stitches) = 30-32-32-36-36-40-42 stitches on the front piece. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this knitted-up row. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl until there are 4 stitches left, knit 2, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (right side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, purl 1 and knit to end of row. Work ROWS 1 and 2 until the piece measures 10-11-12-12-13-14-14 cm from the knitted-up row. OVERVIEW OF THE NEXT SECTION: You now increase for the V-neck and subsequently increase for the armhole. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLE: When the piece measures 26-26-24-28-26-26-26 cm from the knitted-up row, increase for the armhole as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work as before until there are 4 stitches left, increase 1 stitch towards the right, remember INCREASE TIP-1, knit 4. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work as before without increasing. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 1-2-4-3-5-6-7 times (2-4-8-6-10-12-14 rows worked). Continue working until the piece measures 27-29-30-32-33-35-36 cm from the knitted-up row, finishing after a row from the right side. The increases for the V-neck continue on the body. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. Work the right front piece along the right back shoulder as follows. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Start from the right side by the armhole on the right back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked on the right back shoulder, inside 1 stitch (18-20-20-22-22-24-26 stitches), then work across the 12-12-12-14-14-16-16 right band-stitches as follows: Knit 8-8-8-10-10-12-12, purl 1, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1 = 30-32-32-36-36-40-42 stitches. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLE: When the piece measures 26-26-24-28-26-26-26 cm from the knitted-up row, increase for the armhole as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit 4, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work to end of row as before. When the V-neck increases are finished, there are 136-148-156-168-180-196-208 stitches. Work until the piece measures 56-58-60-62-63-65-67 cm from the knitted-up row mid-back, with the next row from the wrong side, and increasing 1 stitch on the last row = 137-149-157-169-181-197-209 stitches. On the next row begin the rib. Change to circular needle size 6 mm and work as follows: ROW 1 (wrong side): Work 4 edge-stitches as before, * make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1 *, work from *-* until there are 5 stitches left, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, work the 4 edge-stitches as before. Purl 1 row from the wrong side and cast off slightly loosely with knit from the right side. The jacket measures approx. 60-62-64-66-68-70-72 cm from the knitted-up row mid-back and 62-64-66-68-70-72-74 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: The sleeve is worked top down. Lay the piece flat and insert 1 marker at the top of the armhole. NOTE: This is not the same as the knitted-up row on the front piece but a few cms down the front piece. Use circular needle size 8 mm and knit up tightly or use a smaller needle size. KNIT UP STITCHES AS FOLLOWS: Start in the middle of the cast-on stitches under the sleeve and knit up 42-44-46-48-52-54-56 stitches around the armhole, with equal numbers of stitches on both sides of the marker. SLEEVE CAP: Work stocking stitch back and forth with short rows for the sleeve cap (to give the sleeve a better fit), starting from mid-under the sleeve as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit to 5-5-5-5-4-4-4 stitches past the marker on top of the sleeve, turn – read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl to 5-5-5-5-4-4-4 stitches past the marker, turn. ROW 3 (right side): Knit to 2 stitches past the previous turn, turn. ROW 4 (wrong side): Purl to 2 stitches past the previous turn, turn. Repeat ROWS 3 and 4 until you have turned a total of 12-14-16-16-20-22-24 times (6-7-8-8-10-11-12 times each side, with the last row from the wrong side). AFTER THE LAST TURN: After the last row-4, turn and knit back from the right side to the beginning of the round (mid-under the sleeve). Insert 1 marker-thread here; it is used when decreasing under the sleeve. Allow it to follow your work onwards. SLEEVE CONTINUED: Work stocking stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME after 1 round, decrease stitches mid-under the sleeve - read DECREASE TIP, as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2nd round 2-2-2-3-4-4-4 times, then decrease 2 stitches every 3 cm 3-3-3-2-2-2-2 times = 32-34-36-38-40-42-44 stitches. When the sleeve measures 23-23-23-23-25-27-28 cm from the marker on the shoulder (with at least 2 cm worked after the last decrease), increase 4-4-4-5-5-5-5 stitches evenly on the round – read INCREASE TIP-3. Increase like this every 5-5-5-5-4-4-3½ cm 4 times, then work 5-5-5-5-4-4-3½ cm and increase 2-2-4-2-2-4-4 stitches evenly on the round = 50-52-56-60-62-66-68 stitches. Work until the sleeve measures 48-47-48-46-46-46-45 cm from the shoulder. Change to double pointed needles size 6 and work the next round as follows: ROUND 1: * Make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, purl 1 *, work from *-* to end of round. ROUND 2: * Knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, purl 1 *, work from *-* to end of round. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 until the rib measures 3½-3½-3½-3½-4½-4½-4½ cm, finishing after round 2. Knit 1 round, then cast off slightly loosely with knit. The sleeve measures approx. 52-51-52-50-51-51-50 cm from the shoulder. BELT: Cast on 10 stitches with needle size 8 mm, 1 strand DROPS Melody and 1 strand DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk or 3 strands DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk. ROW 1 (right side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1 *, work from *-* to end of row, turn. ROW 2 (wrong side): * Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1 *, work from *-* to end of row, turn. Repeat ROWS 1 and 2 until the belt measures 160-170-185-200-215-230-255 cm, stretching the piece slightly as you work so the stitches lie neatly. When you have reached the correct length, knit all stitches twisted together 2 and 2 = 5 stitches. Cast off with purl. The belt is tied round the waist. |
