Bon tricot!

Knitting for the first time in many years. I am On third row of rib for front of jumper and the rib doesn’t look right. Could be the fluffy wool however don’t want to continue without advice ( have already ripped out and started again) Is the garter stitch at each end of the row? So k1 , k2,P2 till last 3 stitches k3? I have never done garter stitch at edge so I may be knitting wrongly. Many thanks Margaret

Switch to needle size 7 mm. Work in stocking stitch, and on first row decrease 4-6-4-4-4-6 stitches evenly = 68-74-80-88-96-102 stitches on needle. When piece measures 34-35-36-37-38-39 cm from cast-on edge, cast off 2-4-5-6-7-7 stitches for armholes at the beginning of the next 2 rows = 64-66-70-76-82-88 stitches on needle. Work until piece measures 44-46-47-49-50-52 cm from cast-on edge. On next row from right side cast stitches off for neck as follows: Work the first 26-27-28-31-33-36 stitches, then slip them on a stitch holder (= left shoulder), cast off the next 12-12-14-14-16-16 stitches and work the rest of row. Now work shoulder separately. RIGHT SHOULDER: = 26-27-28-31-33-36 stitches. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Cast off for neck on every row from right side: 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 3 times = 21-22-23-26-28-31 stitches for shoulder. Cast off by knitting from right side when piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm from cast-on edge. LEFT SHOULDER: Slip stitches from stitch holder back on needle = 26-27-28-31-33-36 stitches. Knit 1 row from right side. Cast off for neck on every row from wrong side: 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 3 times = 21-22-23-26-28-31 stitches for shoulder. Cast off by knitting from right side when piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm from cast-on edge (make sure that the shoulders are the same length). BACK PIECE: Cast on and work as on front piece until piece measures 34-35-36-37-38-39 cm from cast-on edge. Cast off 2-4-5-6-7-7 stitches for armholes at the beginning of the next 2 rows = 64-66-70-76-82-88 stitches on needle. Work until piece measures 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm. On next row from right side cast stitches off for neck as follows: Work the first 22-23-24-27-29-32 stitches, then slip them on a stitch holder (= right shoulder), cast off the next 20-20-22-22-24-24 stitches and work the rest of row. Now work shoulder separately. LEFT SHOULDER: = 22-23-24-27-29-32 stitches. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Cast off 1 stitch for neck on next row from right side = 21-22-23-26-28-31 stitches for shoulder. Cast off by knitting from right side when piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm from cast-on edge. RIGHT SHOULDER: Slip stitches from stitch holder back on needle = 22-23-24-27-29-32 stitches. Knit 1 row from right side. Cast off 1 stitch for neck on next row from wrong side = 21-22-23-26-28-31 stitches for shoulder. Cast off by knitting when piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm from cast-on edge (make sure that the shoulders are the same length). ASSEMBLY AND NECK EDGE: Place front piece against back piece and sew shoulder together on one shoulder. Begin from right side with needle size 6 mm and fog, pick up approx. 68-68-70-74-76-78 stitches along the entire neck edge. Work 2 ridges back and forth on needle. Cast off by knitting on next row from right side, let the yarn end be approx. 30-50 cm before cutting it and pulling it through last stitch. Use yarn to sew together the sides on neck edge, sew in outer loops of edge stitches to avoid a chunky seam. Then sew the other shoulder the same way as the first. SLEEVE: Sleeve is worked top down. Pick up 46-48-50-54-58-62 stitches inside 1 stitch along armhole with needle size 7 mm and fog. Work stocking stitch until piece measures 1½-3-3½-4-5-5 cm, insert a marker in each side (used during assembly). Continue until sleeve measures 15-15-14-13-12-11 cm from shoulder. Work STRIPES - read explanation above, and increase AT THE SAME TIME 1 stitch inside 1 stitch in each side. Repeat increase every 3-3-4-4-6½-9 cm 8-8-7-6-4-3 times in total = 62-64-64-66-66-68 stitches on needle. When stripes have been worked, continue with fog. Work until piece measures 47-47-46-45-44-43 cm from shoulder. On next row from right side decrease stitches as follows: Knit 1-0-2-1-3-2, knit stitches together 2 by 2 until 1-0-2-1-3-2 stitches remain and knit these = 32-32-34-34-36-36 stitches on needle. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Switch to needle size 6 mm and work rib from right side as follows: Knit 1, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* and finish with knit 1. Work knit over knit and purl over purl until rib measures 5 cm. Loosely cast off with knit from right side. Knit another sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew seam under sleeve in outer loop of edge stitch, begin at the bottom of rib and sew until markers inserted 1½-3-3½-4-5-5 cm from shoulder. From markers sew each side of sleeve to the sides of front/back piece where stitches were cast off for armhole. Then sew side of front piece to side of back piece from under sleeve and down to rib. Repeat in the other side. |
