---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH: Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. BAND WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work band as follows (= 7 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1 and work 5 stitches in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above. END OF ROW: Work band as follows (= 7 stitches): Work until 7 stitches remain on row, work 5 stitches in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. Continue like this from both right side and wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 5 stitches remain on row as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work band as before and knit yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease for first buttonhole on first row from right side after the rib in neck edge has been worked. Then decrease the next 6 buttonholes, approx. 7½-8-8-8½-8½-9-9 cm apart. INCREASE TIP-1: All increases are done from right side. To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 97 stitches), minus 12 stitches in each side there are no increases over (= 24 stitches) and divide the remaining 73 stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 18) = 4.1. In this example increase in approx. every 4th stitch (do not increase over the 12 outermost stitches in each side) - increase as follows: This symmetrical increase gives 1 new stitch. Follow point 1 - 4 below: 1. Hold the yarn behind the piece. Pass the first stitch on left needle loosely on to right needle purlwise. 2. Insert left needle behind the slipped stitch and in between the slipped stitch and the next stitch on right needle. 3. Make a yarn over with yarn around right needle and pull yarn over through stitch to get 1 new stitch on right needle. 4. Drop front loop of stitch off left needle and then knit 1 in front part of the other loop of stitch. 1 stitch has been increased. INCREASE TIP-2: When increasing stitches evenly in transition for rib, there will be an even increase if you increase where stitches are going to be purled, the stitches in stocking stitch will then continue nicely over into rib. ELEVATION: To make the jacket higher in the back of neck when working in the round for round yoke, knit an elevation. Skip this paragraph if you do not want an elevation. Insert 1 marker in the middle of needle (= mid back). Begin from right side and work as before until 13-14-14-15-16-17-17 stitches have been worked past marker, turn - read KNITTING TIP and purl 26-28-28-30-32-34-34 stitches. Turn and knit 39-42-42-45-48-51-51, turn and purl 52-56-56-60-64-68-68. Turn and knit 65-70-70-75-80-85-85, turn and purl 78-84-84-90-96-102-102. Turn and knit the entire row (work band as before), turn and purl 1 row (work band as before). Then work yoke as explained in pattern. KNITTING TIP: When working short rows there will be a small hole when turning the piece - the hole can be closed by tightening the yarn or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip first stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece. Place strand over right needle and tighten well at the back (should lead to two loops on needle). Work these loops together on next row. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. Remember to read the diagrams from left to right when working from the wrong side. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, work top down with increases for round yoke. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. NECK EDGE: Cast on 97-101-103-107-111-115-119 stitches on circular needle size 5 mm with DROPS Nepal or DROPS Alaska. Switch to circular needle size 3.5 mm and work as follows: ROW 1 (= wrong side): Work BAND WITH I-CORD - read explanation above, purl until 7 stitches remain, work band with I-cord. ROW 2 (= right side): Work band with i-cord, knit until 7 stitches remain, work band with I-cord. ROW 3 (= wrong side): Work band as before, purl until 7 stitches remain, work band as before. ROW 4 (= right side): Work band as before, work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1) until 8 stitches remain, knit 1 and work band as before. ROW 5 (= wrong side): Work band as before, work rib (= purl 1 and knit 1) until 8 stitches remain, purl 1 and work band with I-cord. AFTER 5TH ROW: Work 4th and 5th row until rib measures 2-2-2-2½-2½-3-3 cm without rolling edge. Then work stocking stitch with 7 stitches band in each side as before until neck edge measures 4-4-4-4½-4½-5-5 cm after rolling edge - remember BUTTONHOLES - read explanation above. Insert 1 marker on the inside of band in one side of piece (= mid front), measure piece from this marker. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 5 mm and work first row from mid front as follows: Work band as before, work 5 stitches in stocking stitch, work 73-77-79-83-87-91-95 stitches in stocking stitch while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 18-20-22-24-26-28-30 stitches evenly over these stitches – read INCREASE TIP-1, work 5 stitches in stocking stitch and band as before = 115-121-125-131-137-143-149 stitches on needle. Now work an ELEVATION at the back of neck - read explanation above. When elevation has been worked, continue the yoke as explained below. If you do not want an elevation, continue as explained below. Then work stocking stitch and bands. Remember to follow the knitting tension! When yoke measures 2-2-2½-3-3-4-4 cm from marker and next row is worked from right side, increase 19-23-24-28-32-36-40 stitches evenly – remember INCREASE TIP-1 (do not increase over the outermost 12 stitches in each side) = 134-144-149-159-169-179-189 stitches. Continue stocking stitch and bands as before. When piece measures 2½-2½-3-4-4-5-5 cm from marker and next row is worked from right side, work PATTERN - read explanation above and work next row as follows: Work band as before, work A.1, work A.2 23-25-26-28-30-32-34 times in total along yoke, work A.3 and work band as before. Continue pattern like this and increase as shown in diagrams, from wrong side work pattern knit over knit and purl over purl. When A.1 to A.3 have been worked vertically, there are 277-299-310-332-354-376-398 stitches on needle. Work and repeat last 2 rows in diagrams until piece measures 22½-22½-23-24-24-26-27 cm from marker. Then work stocking stitch and bands as before until piece measures 23-23-24-25-26-27-29 cm from marker while AT THE SAME TIME decreasing 26-28-27-29-35-37-35 stitches evenly on first row from right side (do not decrease over the outermost 12 stitches in each side) = 251-271-283-303-319-339-363 stitches. Now divide piece for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work band as before, work 36-39-41-44-47-51-55 stitches in stocking stitch (= front piece), slip the next 46-50-52-56-58-60-64 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-10-12-14-16-18-20 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 73-79-83-89-95-103-111 stitches in stocking stitch (= back piece), slip the next 46-50-52-56-58-60-64 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-10-12-14-16-18-20 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 36-39-41-44-47-51-55 stitches in stocking stitch and work band as before (= front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 175-191-203-219-235-255-275 stitches. Work stocking stitch and bands as before until piece measures 43-45-47-49-50-51-53 cm from marker mid front. On next row from right side begin rib while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 28-32-36-36-40-44-48 stitches evenly on row - read INCREASE TIP-2 (do not increase over bands) = 203-223-239-255-275-299-323 stitches, work as follows: Switch to circular needle size 3.5 mm and work band as before, work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1 - remember increase) until 8 stitches remain, knit 1 and work band as before. Work like this until rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm. Cast off somewhat loosely with knit over knit and purl over purl. Jacket measures 47-49-51-53-55-56-58 cm from marker mid front and approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 46-50-52-56-58-60-64 sleeve stitches from one thread on to needle size 5 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 8-10-12-14-16-18-20 stitches cast on under sleeve - read SLEEVE TIP = 54-60-64-70-74-78-84 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 8-10-12-14-16-18-20 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread. Work stocking stitch in the round on needle - AT THE SAME TIME when 1 round has been worked after division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every other round 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 times, then decrease 2 stitches every 3-3-2-2-2-2-2 cm 2-4-5-7-8-9-11 times = 46-48-50-52-52-54-56 stitches on needle. Work until sleeve measures approx. 40-41-40-40-38-39-37 cm from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 8-8-8-10-10-10-10 stitches evenly on 1st round - remember INCREASE TIP -2= 54-56-58-62-62-64-66 stitches. When rib measures 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 cm knit 3 rounds in stocking stitch (= rolling edge). Use needle size 5 mm and cast off somewhat loosely by knitting. Sleeve measures approx. 43-44-43-43-42-43-41 cm from division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons on to the left band. |
