Hello DROPS, diagram A.4 shows 15 stitches, but the written instructions say to work it over 17 stitches after increasing 2 stitches. Please clarify which is correct?

Dear Lily, in the first row of the chart you work A.4 over 15 of the rib stitches. However, at the same time, you increase 1 stitch inside the 7 stitches before and 1 stitch inside the 7 stitches after the purl stitch. That way, you will have 8 knit stitches on each side of the purl stitch and you will be able to work the cables as indicated in the 7th row of the chart. So while the chart shows 15 stitches at the bottom, because that's the number of stitches from the rib that you work it on, if you count the actual squares, you will get 17 stitches, which already includes the 2 increased stitches. Happy knitting!

Dobrý den, ve schámatu A4 máte zakreslen špatný počet ok. Máte tam 15 což je před přidáváním dvou ok a schéma je široké 17 ok.

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.6. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. DECREASE TIP: Insert 1 marker in first knit stitch on round, mid under sleeve. Work rib until 1 stitch remains before stitch with marker, slip 2 stitches as if to knit together, knit 1, pass the 2 slipped stitches over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased) - marker should be in the stitch that is left. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- WAISTCOAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Worked in the round on circular needle, from the bottom and up to armholes. Then divide the piece for front piece and back piece and finish each part separately back and forth on circular needle. Work edges around the neck and around the armholes. BODY: Cast on 190-202-220-236-256-278-294 stitches on circular needle size 4 mm with DROPS Nepal or DROPS Alaska. Work rib in the round (= knit 1/purl 1) for 3-3-3-4-4-4-4 cm. Then work pattern and adjust number of stitches - work first round as follows: Switch to circular needle size 5 mm and work A.1 over the first 19-23-27-31-37-41-45 stitches while at the same time decreasing 3-3-3-3-5-5-5 stitches evenly (= continue A.1 over 16-20-24-28-32-36-40 stitches), work A.2, work A.3 while at the same time increasing 1 stitch so that the 8 stitches in cable is over the 7 stitches from rib, work A.2, work A.4 while at the same time increasing 2 stitches so that the 8 stitches in each cable is over 7 stitches from rib, work A.2, work A.5 (work over 7 stitches from rib and increase 1 stitch), A.2, work A.6 over the last 106-114-128-140-154-172-184 stitches and decrease 9-9-11-11-13-15-15 stitches evenly (= continue A.6 over 97-105-117-129-141-157-169 stitches) = 182-194-210-226-242-262-278 stitches on round. Insert 1 marker at beginning of round and 1 marker after the first 101-109-117-125-133-141-149 stitches (= in the sides on body). The first 101-109-117-125-133-141-149 stitches = front piece, the last 81-85-93-101-109-121-129 stitches = back piece. Continue the pattern like this. Remember to follow the knitting tension! Work until piece measures 37-38-38-39-40-41-42 cm from cast-on edge - adjust so that next round is an uneven numbered round in pattern (the cable needles will then be from right side when working back and forth afterwards). Now decrease for armholes and divide the piece into front piece and back piece. DIVISION AT ARMHOLES: On next round divide piece for front piece and back piece, and work round as follows: Cast off the first 3 stitches on round for armhole, work 95-103-111-119-127-135-143 stitches, cast off the next 6 stitches for armhole, work 75-79-87-95-103-115-123 stitches, cast off the last 3 stitches for armhole. Cut the yarn. Now work front piece and back piece back and forth on needle until finished measurements. BACK PIECE: = 75-79-87-95-103-115-123 stitches. Continue pattern back and forth as before. In each side cast off stitches for armholes on every other row as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 2-2-3-3-4-5-6 times in each side and 1 stitch 1-1-2-4-4-6-7 times in each side = 65-69-71-75-79-83-85 stitches. When piece measures 59-61-63-65-67-69-71 cm from cast-on edge, cast off the middle 23-23-25-25-27-29-29 stitches for neck, and finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDER: Continue with pattern as before, and cast off for neck on every other row as follows: Cast off 1 stitch 1 time = 20-22-22-24-25-26-27 stitches remain for shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 62-64-66-68-70-72-74 cm. FRONT PIECE: = 95-103-111-119-127-135-143 stitches. Continue pattern back and forth as before. In each side cast off stitches for armholes on every other row as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 2-2-3-3-4-5-6 times in each side and 1 stitch 1-1-2-4-4-6-7 times in each side = 85-93-95-99-103-103-105 stitches. When piece measures 54-56-58-59-61-63-65 cm from cast-on edge, slip the middle 21-25-25-25-27-27-27 stitches on a thread for neck, and finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDER: Continue with pattern as before (work the stitches that do not fit a cable knit over knit and purl over purl), and cast off for neck on every other row as follows: Cast off 3 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 3 times = 22-24-25-27-28-28-29 stitches remain for shoulder. When piece measures 61-63-65-67-69-71-73 cm, decrease 2-2-3-3-3-2-2 stitches evenly over the cables = 20-22-22-24-25-26-27 stitches for shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 62-64-66-68-70-72-74 cm. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. SLEEVE EDGES: Use circular needle size 4 mm, begin at the bottom of armhole and pick up from right side approx. 92-96-102-106-110-114-118 stitches around the armhole inside 1 stitch – number of stitches must be even. Work rib in the round (= knit 1/purl 1) - AT THE SAME TIME decrease 2 stitches mid under sleeve - read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every other round until sleeve edge measures approx. 3-3-4-4-4-4-4 cm and rib fits knit 1/purl 1 the entire round. Cast off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl. NECK EDGE: Use a circular needle size 4 mm, start at one shoulder seam and pick up from right side approx. 78 to 98 stitches around the neck – number of stitches must be even. Work rib in the round (= knit 1/purl 1) for approx. 3-3-3½-3½-4-4-4 cm. Cast off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl. |
