Hello, I am struggling to understand the increasing stitches for the raglan. I understand there are four markers that denote each sections of the jumper. I am at the stage where I have 52 stitches on the needle. Do I increase within the 6 stitches that are now for my sleeve (size xxxl) or is the increase on the body pieces? Many thanks Do you have a video that may help with how to do the increase?

Dear Mrs McKoy, you have inserted before 4 thread markers, and you will increase on each piece on each side of the thread markers are explained under RAGLAN, this means start when 2 sts remain before thread marker, make 1 YO (= increase), work the next 4 sts (= the thread marker is in the middle of these 4 sts), make 1 YO (= increase) and repeat at each marker = you increase 8 sts on every round. Happy knitting!

Weiter so!!

INFORMATION FOR PATTERN: GARTER STITCH (back and forth): 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): 1 ridge = 2 rounds. Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. PATTERN See diagram A.1. RAGLAN: Increase for raglan on each side of 4 knitted stitches in every transition between sleeves and body as follows: Begin 2 stitches before marker thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 4, 1 yarn over (= 2 stitches increased). On next round knit the yarn overs to make holes. DECREASE TIP (applies to mid under sleeve): Begin 3 stitches before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked. ---------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER: Worked in the round on double pointed needles/circular needle from top down from mid back. Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles, top down. NECK: Cast on 40-40-48-48-48-56 stitches on double pointed needles size 9 mm with Snow. Knit 1 round. Then work rib as follows: * Knit 4, 4 stitches in GARTER STITCH - see explanation above *, repeat from *-* the entire round (= 5-5-6-6-6-7 repetitions of 8 stitches). When neck measures 12 cm, knit 1 round while at the same time decreasing 4-4-8-8-4-8 stitches evenly = 36-36-40-40-44-48 stitches. Switch to double pointed needles size 10 mm. YOKE: Insert 4 marker threads in piece (without working stitches): Insert 1st marker thread after the first 7-7-8-8-9-10 stitches (= half back piece), insert 2nd marker thread after the next 4 stitches (= sleeve), insert 3rd marker thread after the next 14-14-16-16-18-20 stitches (= front piece), and insert 4th marker thread after the next 4 stitches (= sleeve). 7-7-8-8-9-10 stitches remain on round after last marker thread (= half back piece). Knit 1 round while increasing 1 stitch in each of the middle 2 stitches on each sleeve (increase 1 stitch by knitting 1 in front and back loop of same stitch) = 40-40-44-44-48-52 stitches on needle. Then work A.1 in the round - AT THE SAME TIME on 1st round increase for RAGLAN – see explanation above (= 8 stitches increased). Increase like this every other round 13-15-16-18-19-21 times in total. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Switch to circular needle when needed. After last increase for raglan there are 144-160-172-188-200-220 stitches on needle. Continue A.1 without increase until piece measures 22-24-26-29-31-34 cm mid front (without rib in neck – piece measures approx. 25-27-29-32-34-37 cm from shoulder and down). Work next round as follows: Knit 20-22-24-26-28-31, slip the next 32-36-38-42-44-48 stitches on a stitch holder for sleeve, cast on 4-4-4-4-6-6 new stitches on needle (= in the side under sleeve), knit 40-44-48-52-56-62 (= front piece), slip the next 32-36-38-42-44-48 stitches on a stitch holder for sleeve, cast on 4-4-4-4-6-6 new stitches on needle (= in the side under sleeve) and knit the remaining 20-22-24-26-28-31 stitches. Finish body and sleeves separately. NOW MEASURE THE PIECE FROM HERE! BODY: = 88-96-104-112-124-136 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in each side (i.e. in the middle of the 4-4-4-4-6-6 new stitches that were cast on under sleeve in each side). Move the markers downwards when working. Work in stocking stitch in the round. When piece measures 21-21-21-20-20-19 cm, divide piece at the marker threads and finish front and back piece separately. BACK PIECE: = 44-48-52-56-62-68 stitches. Work in stocking stitch with 4 edge stitches in GARTER STITCH - see explanation above - in each side. When piece measures 33-33-33-32-32-31 cm from division at the sleeves, knit 1 row from right side while increasing 8-4-8-4-6-8 stitches evenly (do not increase over the 4 stitches in each side) = 52-52-60-60-68-76 stitches. Switch to circular needle size 9 mm and work rib as follows (1st row from wrong side): 4 edge stitches in garter stitch, * purl 4, 4 stitches in garter stitch *, repeat from *-* until 8 stitches remain and finish with purl 4 and 4 edge stitches in garter stitch. When rib measures 8 cm, LOOSELY cast off by knitting from right side - to avoid a tight cast-off edge make 1 yarn over after every 6th stitch while casting off (cast off yarn overs as regular stitches). Jumper measures approx. 66-68-70-72-74-76 cm from shoulder and down. FRONT PIECE: Work as back piece. SLEEVE: Slip the 32-36-38-42-44-48 stitches from stitch holder in one side of piece on double pointed needles size 10 mm and pick in addition up 1 new stitch in each of the 4-4-4-4-6-6 stitches cast on under sleeve = 36-40-42-46-50-54 stitches on needle. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 4-4-4-4-6-6 new stitches under sleeve and move the marker thread upwards when working. Work in stocking stitch in the round. When piece measures 2 cm from division, decrease 2 stitches mid under sleeve - read DECREASE TIP (= 2 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 5-4-4-3-2-2 cm 7-8-8-9-10-11 times in total = 22-24-26-28-30-32 stitches. When sleeve measures 35-34-33-32-30-30 cm from division, switch to double pointed needles size 9 mm. Knit 1 round while increasing 2-0-6-4-2-0 stitches evenly = 24-24-32-32-32-32 stitches. Work rib in the round (= knit 4/4 stitches in garter stitch). When rib measures 8 cm (sleeve measures approx. 43-42-41-40-38-38 cm from division), LOOSELY cast off by knitting. Work the other sleeve the same way. |
