I am trying to figure out how to sew this together. I have read the pattern and comments, but I don't know which edges to sew together. Please clear up if I sew cast on edge or cast off edge.

Hello again. Re: previous Email. The beginning of the pattern states "Worked back and forth in one piece and sewn tog on top of foot and back on heel when finished." Should that be bottom of foot? The following is what I am now thinking; the cast on edge is the top of slipper(where the foot goes in) the cast off edge the bottom of the foot. Fold the knitting in half and sew tog the cast off edges (bottom) and sew tog the side edges (heel). Is this right?

Hello, I don't understand which edges to join. This is how I see the edges. The cast on edge, the cast off edge, the 2 side edges and the 2 decreased edges. What I have knitted is a sort of U shape. which edge is the top of the slipper(the open part) and which is the bottom (sole)? I am totally confused .... I think I am not reading the joining instruction correctly. I would be so grateful if you can clarify for me.

SLIPPER: Worked back and forth in one piece and sewn tog underneath and back on heel when finished. The whole slipper is worked K on all rows (= garter st). Cast on 46-48-50 sts on needle size 9 mm with lime. K 5-5-5 rows (1st row = WS) = upper edge on slipper. Insert a marker in the middle of piece (i.e. after 23-24-25 sts). Work next row as follows: Work until 2 sts remain before marker, make 1 YO, K 4 sts and make 1 more YO, K the rest of row. On next row K the YOs twisted to avoid holes (i.e. work in back loop of st) – AT THE SAME TIME continue the inc with 1 YO on each side of the middle 4 sts on every row until there are 74-78-86 sts on needle. Work 4-5-4 rows without inc. Then dec 1 st at beg of the next 6 rows (i.e. dec a total of 3 sts in each side) = 68-72-80 sts remain on needle. Cast off the remaining sts (= under foot). A total of 15-16-17 ridges (1 ridge = 2 rows in garter st) have been worked. Loosely sew tog cast off edge under the foot and up mid back (sew edge to edge to avoid a thick edge). CROCHET FLOWER: There are 2 colours on the flowers. A: Colour 1 = yellow, colour 2 = hot pink. B: Colour 1 = medium purple, colour 2 = yellow. C: Colour 1 = hot pink, colour 2 = medium purple. Work 1 flower with every colour combination for each slipper. Work as follows: Crochet 4 ch on hook size 8 mm with colour 1 and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch. ROUND 1: Work 6 dc in ch-ring, finish with 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round. ROUND 2 (switch to colour 2): * 5 ch, 1 tr in the second of the 5 ch and 1 tr in the first of the 5 ch, 1 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* a total of 6 times but the last time finish with 1 sl st in first leaf at beg of round instead of 1 dc in next st (= 6 leaves). Cut and fasten the thread. FELTING: Place the slippers and the flowers in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at 40 degrees with normal spin but no pre-wash. After wash shape the slippers to the right size while still wet and leave to dry flat. At subsequent wash, wash the slippers at regular wool programme. ASSEMBLY: Fasten the 3 flowers at the front on each slipper - use a sewing thread or a thin wool thread. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
