Is this bag knitted top down? how come the picture shown wider at the top than bottom while we have to decrease stitches? Thanks
10.03.2019 - 06:52DROPS Design answered:
Dear Ida, sorry for the mistake in the translation (it happens, we are human after all), but the pattern is knitted from the bottom up. If you have doubts like this, it can always help to check the UK English translation. I hope this helps. Happy Knitting!

Felted DROPS bag with flowers in ”Snow”.
DROPS 139-14 |
|
BAG: The bag is worked in the round on circular needle, from bottom and up, and sewn tog at the bottom at the end. Cast on 90 sts on circular needle size 9 mm with lime. Insert a marker in each side (= 45 sts between markers). Work in stocking st in the round. When piece measures 10 cm, dec 1 st on each side of both markers by K 2 tog. Repeat dec every 8 cm a total of 4 times = 74 sts. When piece measures 37 cm, P 1 round, then cast off with K. Sew bag tog at the bottom – edge to edge to avoid a chunky seam. HANDLE: Worked back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 6 sts on circular needle size 9 mm with lime. Work as follows: * K 1, place yarn in front of piece (towards you), slip 1 st as if to P, place yarn behind piece (from you) *, repeat from *-* the rest of row. Turn piece and repeat from *-* upwards on all rows. Working like this makes a handle worked seemingly in the round. Cast off when piece measures approx. 85 cm. Knit another handle. Fasten one handle in each side of bag, approx. 6 cm in from the sides. CROCHET FLOWER: There are 2 colours on the flowers, choose the colour combination as you please. Work a total of 18 flowers. Work as follows: Crochet 4 ch on hook size 8 mm with colour 1 and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch. ROUND 1: Work 6 dc in ch-ring, finish with 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round. ROUND 2 (switch to colour 2): * 5 ch, 1 tr in the second of the 5 ch and 1 tr in the first of the 5 ch, 1 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* a total of 6 times but the last time finish with 1 sl st in first leaf at beg of round instead of 1 dc in next st (= 6 leaves). Cut and fasten the thread. FELTING: Place the bag and the flowers in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at 40 degrees with normal spin but no pre-wash. After wash shape the bag to the right size while still wet and leave to dry flat. At subsequent wash, wash the bag at regular wool programme. ASSEMBLY: Fasten the 9 flowers on each side of bag - use a sewing thread or a thin wool thread. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
