------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. When increasing for raglan, the new stitches are worked into the pattern as shown in the diagrams, i.e., the new stitches are worked in stocking stitch until there are enough stitches to fit 3 or 6 stitches in the pattern. RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next round: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn-over purl-wise from the left to the right needle, replace the yarn over by inserting the left needle through the back (it is the other way around). Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). Work the new stitches into the PATTERN as described above. AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the left): Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). Work the new stitches into the PATTERN as described above. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle top down and from the right back shoulder, while increasing for raglan. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 92-92-92-104-104-116-116 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm, 1 strand DROPS Sky and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands); or you can work Italian cast-on (knit 1, purl 1). Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 3-3-3-3½-3½-4-4 cm. Knit 1 round and decrease 4 stitches evenly spaced, then work as follows: Knit 1. knit 2 together, knit 11, knit 2 together, knit 29-29-29-35-35-41-41, knit 2 together, knit 11, knit 2 together, knit to end of round = 88-88-88-100-100-112-112 stitches. The round begins on the right back shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 29-29-29-32-32-35-35 stitches (approx. mid-front), the piece is measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Insert 4 markers without working the stitches and each marker is inserted in a stitch (raglan-stitches; you will increase for raglan on each side of these stitches). The raglan-stitches are worked in stocking stitch. Insert marker-1 in the first stitch, count 12 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 30-30-30-36-36-42-42 stitches (= front piece), insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 12 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-4 in the next stitch, there are 30-30-30-36-36-42-42 stitches left after the last marker (= back piece). Work PATTERN in the round and increase for RAGLAN on each side of all raglan-stitches as follows – read explanations above. NOTE: At the beginning of the round increase after marker-stitch-1 and at the end of the round increase before marker-stitch-1. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Knit the raglan-stitch, increase 1 stitch for raglan, work A.1 and A.3 (= sleeve), increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitch, work A.1, then A.2, 3-3-3-4-4-5-5 times, work A.3 (= front piece), increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitch, work A.1 and A.3 (= sleeve), increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitch, work A.1, then A.2 3-3-3-4-4-5-5 times, work A.3 (= back piece) increase 1 stitch for raglan (8 increased stitches). The pattern is established and you have increased 1 time for raglan. Continue the pattern and increase for raglan every 2nd round a total of 19-19-19-19-25-22-16 times (including the increase on round 1) = 240-240-240-252-300-288-240 stitches. Now increase as follows: Increase for raglan every 2nd round on the front and back pieces but only every 4th round on the sleeves (alternately 4 and 8 increased stitches), i.e., increase AFTER markers 2 and 4 and BEFORE markers 3 and 1. Repeat the increases 12-12-18-18-12-18-30 times on the front and back pieces and 6-6-9-9-6-9-15 times on the sleeves. A total of 31-31-37-37-37-40-46 increases in height on the front and back pieces and 25-25-28-28-31-31-31 increases in height on the sleeves. There are 312-312-348-360-372-396-420 stitches and the yoke measures approx. 23-23-27-27-27-30-34 cm from the marker mid-front. If the piece is shorter than this continue working without further increases to the correct length. On the last round decrease 4 stitches by working the marker-stitches as follows: Markers 2 and 4: Knit twisted together marker-stitch and next stitch. Markers 1 and 3: Start 1 stitch before the marker-stitch, knit 2 together = 308-308-344-356-368-392-416 stitches. NOTE: The stitch which was knitted together with marker-stitch-1 belongs to the back piece. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Place the first 62-62-68-68-74-74-74 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 16-4-10-16-16-22 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the next 92-92-104-110-110-122-134 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 62-62-68-68-74-74-74 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 16-4-10-16-16-22 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 92-92-104-110-110-122-134 stitches (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 192-216-216-240-252-276-312 stitches. Work A.2 in the round (making sure to continue the pattern from the yoke). Work until the piece measures approx. 44-46-48-50-51-53-55 cm from the marker mid-front, finishing after round 4 or 10 in A.3. Knit 1 round. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm. Work rib (purl 1, knit 1) for 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm. Cast off with rib or work Italian cast-off. The jumper measures approx. 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 62-62-68-68-74-74-74 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 4-16-4-10-16-16-22stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 66-78-72-78-90-90-96 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 4-16-4-10-16-16-22 stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Work A.2 in the round (making sure to continue the pattern from the yoke). AT THE SAME TIME, after the first round, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2nd round 2-3-2-2-4-2-4 times, then decrease 2 stitches every 3-2-3-2-1-1-0 cm 2-4-2-3-5-3-0 times = 58-64-64-68-72-80-88 stitches. The stitches which do not fit into the pattern while decreasing are knitted. Continue working until the sleeve measures 12-13-10-10-10-6-4 cm from the division, finishing after round 4 or 10 in A.3. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm. Cast off with rib or work Italian cast-off. The sleeve measures approx. 15-16-13-13-14-10-8 cm from the division. |
