How to start knitting for a beginner

Mastering these techniques is the start of many exciting projects as your first dish cloth, potholder or headband... When knitting all sts on every row, it's called garter stitch. The fabric looks the same on both sides, perfect for scarfs!

How to cast on with the continental method

There are different methods to cast on. In this DROPS video we show one of the most common methods that gives a firm but still elastic edge. It’s called the continental method. The cast on should be firm but not too hard. If you feel it becomes too tight you can use larger needles or cast on around two needles and then pull one needle out afterwards. Remember to use the correct needles when starting your knitting. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. How to cast on in old Norwegian knit (aka twisted German)

In this DROPS video we show how to cast on in the old Norwegian knit style also known as twisted German cast-on. This is a cast on that gives a sturdy and stretchy baseline of stitches. How to have enough thread when you cast on

In this DROPS video we show an easy way to find out how to have enough thread when you cast up (continental method). Wrap the thread as many times around the knitting needle as many stitch number your work need. Have approx. 10 cm thread end at the beginning to hold on (we also tie a knot to mark exactly how much thread it is left when you finish cast on). In the video we wrap around/cast on 16 stitches with DROPS Snow from Garnstudio, then 40 stitches with a thinner thread, DROPS Cotton Merino from Garnstudio.
