Pattern instructions

NOTE: This pattern is written in American English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from inches to cm - click here. RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth):
Knit all rows.
1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows.

See diagram A.1. The diagram shows all rows in the pattern seen from the right side.

The piece is worked in 2 sections which are sewn together to finish. Each section is worked back and forth with single pointed needles or circular needle to finished length.

Cast on, slightly loosely, 87-97-107 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm = US 6 and 2 strands Kid-Silk. Remove 1 strand and continue with just 1 strand Kid-Silk as follows: Work 2 RIDGES back and forth over all stitches – read description above. Work 2 rows in stockinette stitch with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch on each side. The next row is worked as follows from the right side: 3 edge stitches in garter stitch, work A.1A (= 5 stitches), A.1B over the next 70-80-90 stitches (= 7-8-9 repeats of 10 stitches), A.1C (= 6 stitches) and finish with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue this pattern. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures approx. 78-87-96 cm = 30 3/4”-34 1/4”-37 3/4” – adjust after a whole or half repeat in height, work 2 rows in stockinette stitch with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch on each side. Then work 2 ridges back and forth over all stitches. Loosely bind off with knit from the right side and 2 strands Kid-Silk.

Cast on and work in the same way as the first section.

Lay bind-off edge on the first section towards the long right side on the second section - bottom towards cast-on edge and approx. 41-46-51 cm = 16 1/8”-18”-20” upwards – make sure you do not stretch the piece. Sew the 2 sections together with small, neat stitches. Then sew the bind-off edge on the second section to the right side on the first section in the same way.

All measurements in charts are in cm.

= knit from right side, purl from wrong side
= between 2 stitches make 2 yarn overs; on the next row (wrong side) purl the first yarn over and drop the second (= big hole)
= knit 2 together
= slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch
= slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 2 together and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted together stitches

DROPS Design 21.05.2019 kl. 13:47:

Hei Anna Maj.

Linda Booth 29.04.2019 - 11:46:

The video shows a rectangle when making up but the pattern says make in 2 parts. How do I sew up the poncho.

DROPS Design 29.04.2019 kl. 14:04:

Dear Mrs Booth, you are right, the correct video has been now listed - see also below. Happy knitting!
