Pattern instructions

NOTE: This pattern is written in American English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from inches to cm - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in American and British English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in British English, please click here.

RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth):
1 ridge = Knit 2 rows.

See diagrams A.1 to A.4. The diagrams show all the rows in the pattern seen from the right side.

The piece is worked back and forth with circular needle, bottom up. It is worked in 2 parts which are sewn together to finish.

Cast on 123-144-165-186 stitches with circular needle SIZE 5.5 mm/US 9 / US 9 and fog. Work as follows from the right side: A.1 (= 9 stitches), A.2a (= 21 stitches) a total of 5-6-7-8 times in width (= 105-126-147-168 stitches), A.1. On row 3 in A.2a decrease 2 stitches in each repeat = 113-132-151-170 stitches. When A.2a has been completed, work A.2b a total of 4-5-6-7 times in height. A.1 in each side is repeated to finished length. When A.2b has been completed, work A.3 over each repeat of A.2. NOTE: When working stripes, change the colors at the beginning of the row, i.e. A.1 in each side of the piece is also worked in stripes as shown in diagrams A.3 and A.4. REMEMBER THE GAUGE!
When the piece measures 30-32-34-36 cm / 11 3/4"-12½"-13½"-14 1/4'' insert 1 marker at the beginning of the row (from the right side) – the marker marks the split.
When A.3 has been completed, work A.4 with off white until the piece measures approx. 61-72-83-94 cm / 24"-28½"-32 3/4"-37'' - adjust so that you finish after row 6 or 12 in A.4.
Work 2 ridges with off white. Bind off with knit from the right side (it is important that the bind-off edge is not tight - to avoid this you can bind off with double strand).

Cast on and work as for front piece, but reversed. In other words, when you insert a marker for the split, you insert it at the end of the row (from the right side). Make sure the two pieces match.

See sketch. Sew seams A and B inside the bind-off edges. Then sew seams C and D in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch. You now have a split of 30-32-34-36 cm / 11 3/4"-12½"-13½"-14 1/4'' in the one side and a split along the whole of the other side.

All measurements in charts are in cm.
