INCREASE TIP 1:
Work until 1 stitch remains before marker thread. Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker is between these 2 stitches) and make 1 yarn over.

INCREASE TIP 2:
Increase from right side with 1 yarn over. On next round knit yarn over twisted, i.e. work in back loop of stitch instead of front, to avoid holes.

PICOT EDGE:
Worked back and forth over the first 4 and the last 4 stitches on needle.

ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 4 stitches remain on needle. Knit 2 stitches together and make 1 double yarn over, knit 2 stitches in each of the last 2 stitches = 2 new stitches on needle.
ROW 2 (= wrong side): Slip first stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over, knit 1, slip the last stitch on right needle over the foremost stitch, 2 stitches have been decreased. Knit 3 stitches (drop one yarn over, work only in one = done to make bigger holes). Purl until 4 stitches remain on needle. Knit 2 stitches together and make 1 double yarn over, knit 2 stitches in each of the last 2 stitches = 2 new stitches on needle.
ROW 3 (= right side): Slip first stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over, knit 1, slip the last stitch on right needle over the foremost stitch, 2 stitches have been decreased. Knit 3 stitches (drop one yarn over, work only in one = to make bigger holes). Knit all stitches.
ROWS 4-8: Knit 4 stitches, work in stockinette stitch until 4 stitches remain on needle, knit 4 stitches.
Repeat rows 1 to 8.
----------------------------------------------------------

SLIPPER:
Piece is first worked in the round on double pointed needles, then back and forth on circular needle.
Cast on 10-11-12 stitches on double pointed needles size 5 mm / US 8 with Alaska. Knit 1 round while increasing 10-10-11 stitches evenly = 20-21-23 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE On next round insert 2 marker threads: Knit 5-5-6 stitches, insert 1 marker thread, knit 10-11-11 stitches, insert 1 marker thread and knit the last 5-5-6 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch, AT THE SAME TIME on 5th round increase 1 stitch on each side of the 2 marker threads (= 4 increased stitches every time) – READ INCREASE TIP 1! Repeat increase every other round 6 more times = 48-49-51 stitches. When piece measures 14-16-18 cm / 5½"-6 1/4"-7"'' bind off the first and the last 4 stitches on round = 40-41-43 stitches. Then work back and forth. Continue in stockinette stitch but now work picot edge over the first and the last 4 stitches on needle, READ PICOT EDGE. When piece measures 15-17-19 cm / 6"-6 3/4"-7½'', increase 1 stitch in each side, increase inside 4 stitches picot in each side - READ INCREASE TIP 2! Increase every 6-7-8 cm / 2 3/8"-2 3/4"-3 1/8'' 3 times in total = 46-47-49 stitches. When piece measures 38-42-47 cm / 15"-16½"-18½"'', loosely bind off.

ASSEMBLY:
Baste a thread along the cast-on stitches on toe and tighten together. Sew together mid back, edge to edge to avoid a chunky seam.

FELTING:
Place the slippers in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at hot 40C/104F with normal spin but no pre-wash. Put on the slipper and shape it to the correct size while it is still wet. At subsequent wash, wash the slippers at regular wool programme.

DECORATION:
Cut the ribbon in 2 equal lengths, one for each slipper. Use a needle to pull the ribbon through the top of the slipper at the opening. Tie the ends to a bow.
