PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 to A.3. A.1 shows beg of shawl, A.2A shows beg of row in A.2, A.2B shows A.2 in the middle of shawl, A.2C shows end of row in A.2, and A.3 shows finishing edge.

PATTERN A.2:
ROW 1: See diagram A.2: ch 5, 1 dc-group - read explanation below - in 1st ch-space, * ch 2, 1 dc in next ch-space, ch 2, 1 dc-group in next ch-space *, repeat from *-* the entire row - but in ch-space in the middle (= triangle in diagram) work dc-group IN THE MIDDLE - read explanation below, finish with ch 2 and 1 dc in last ch-space, turn piece.
ROW 2: ch 5, 1 dc-group in 1st ch-space, * ch 2, 1 dc in ch-space on next dc-group, ch 2, 1 dc-group in next dc *, repeat from *-* until dc-group in the middle, ch 2, 1 dc in next ch-space, ch 2, in next ch-space (= 1st ch-space on dc-group in the middle) work 1 dc-group, ch 2, 1 dc-group in next ch-space (= 2nd ch-space on dc-group in the middle), then work ch 2, 1 dc in next ch-space, ch 2, 1 dc-group in next dc, repeat from *-* the entire row, finish with ch 2 and 1 dc in last ch-space, turn piece.
ROW 3: ch 5, 1 dc-group in 1st ch-space, * ch 2, 1 dc in ch-space on next dc-group, ch 2, 1 dc-group in next dc *, repeat from *-* the entire row, finish with ch 2 and 1 dc in last ch-space, turn piece.
ROW 4: Work the same way as on ROW 3 - but in ch-space on the middle dc-group work 1 dc-group instead of 1 dc.
ROW 5: ch 5, 1 dc-group in 1st ch-space, * ch 2, 1 dc in ch-space on next dc-group, ch 2, 1 dc-group in next dc *, repeat from *-* the entire row - but in ch-space in the middle work dc-group in the middle, finish with ch 2 and 1 dc in last ch-space, turn piece.
Repeat ROW 2 to 5 upwards.

DC-GROUP:
1 dc-group = in same ch-space/dc work 2 dc, 2 ch and 2 dc.

DC-GROUP IN THE MIDDLE:
1 dc-group in the middle of shawl = in same ch-space work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, 2 ch and 2 dc.

PATTERN A.3:
ROW 1: ch 1, 1 sc in 1st ch-space, ch 3, 1 sc in same ch-space (= 2 sc in 1st ch-space), * ch 3, 1 sc in next ch-space *. Repeat from *-* the entire row - see diagram A.3, finish with 3 ch and 1 sc in last ch-space (= 2 sc in last ch-space), turn piece.
ROW 2: ch 1, 1 sc in 1st ch-space, ch 4, 1 sc in same ch-space (= 2 sc in 1st ch-space), * ch 4, 1 sc in next ch-space *, repeat from *-* the entire row, finish with 4 ch and 1 sc in last ch-space (= 2 sc in last ch-space), turn piece.
ROW 3: ch 1, 1 sc in 1st ch-space, ch 5, 1 sc in same ch-space (= 2 sc in 1st ch-space), * ch 5, 1 sc in next ch-space *, repeat from *-* the entire row, finish with 5 ch and 1 sc in last ch-space (= 2 sc in last ch-space), turn piece.
ROW 4: ch 1, in every ch-space on row work as follows: 2 sc in ch-space, 1 PICOT - read explanation below, 2 sc in same ch-space.

PICOT:
1 picot = ch 3, 1 sc in 3rd ch from hook.
----------------------------------------------------------

SHAWL:
Worked back and forth from mid back of neck. Ch 5 with Safran on hook size 3.5 mmE/4 and form a ring with 1 sl st in 1st ch.
ROW 1: See diagram A.1 - ch 6, 1 sc in ch-ring, ch 4, 1 sc in ch-ring, finish with 3 ch and 1 dc in ch-ring = 3 ch-spaces, turn piece.
ROW 2: ch 6, 1 sc in 1st ch-space, ch 4, 1 sc in next ch-space, ch 4, 1 sc in same ch-space (= middle), ch 4, 1 sc in last ch-space, finish with 3 ch and 1 dc in same ch-space = 2 ch-spaces on each side of ch-space in the middle (5 ch-spaces in total), turn piece.
ROW 3: ch 6, 1 sc in 1st ch-space, * ch 4, 1 sc in next ch-space *, repeat from *-* 1 more time, ch 4, 1 sc in same ch-space (= middle), repeat from *-* 2 more times, finish with 3 ch and 1 dc in last ch-space = 3 ch-spaces on each side of ch-space in the middle (7 ch-spaces in total), turn piece.
ROW 4: Work as ROW 3 but repeat from *-* 1 extra time in each side = 4 ch-spaces on each side of ch-space in the middle (= triangle in diagram, 9 ch-spaces in total), turn piece.
Then work every row as ROW 3 but repeat from *-* 1 extra time in each side = 2 ch-spaces inc on every row.
When piece measures approx. 32 cm / 12½'' in the middle vertically - NOTE: Make sure that the last row has an even number of ch-spaces on each side of ch-space in the middle - then work in diagram A.2 - See diagram A.2 and read explanation above.
When piece measures approx. 62 cm / 24½'' in the middle, work diagram A.3 1 time vertically - read explanation above and see diagram A.3. Fasten off.
Piece measures approx. 66 cm / 26'' in the middle vertically.

Hana

Jill 25.07.2017 - 10:19:

May be a daft question.... But how much wool should I order?

DROPS Design 25.07.2017 kl. 10:48:

Dear Jill, you will need 250 g of DROPS Safran yarn (= 5 skeins). Happy crocheting!

Mrs. Cheryl Key 20.04.2017 - 03:39:

What do you mean repeat row 2-5 upwards?

DROPS Design 20.04.2017 kl. 10:26:

Dear Mrs Key, just repeat from row 2 to row 5 when working pattern 2. Happy crocheting!

Elena 06.04.2016 - 10:06:

Fanney Erla 08.10.2015 - 01:44:

Sorry ending with 3 ch and tr is in the other pattern A-1 not A-2 read wrong line. But the other is wrongly translated though I think.

Fanney Erla 08.10.2015 - 01:37:

Princess shawl trouble the translation in Icelandic is wrong, they say to do 1 tr in to next loop and then tr-group to the next but in English (UK) it makes more sense if I understand I have to make tr-group in to the ch not the ch loop like translate it in Icelandic, in beginning of a row I ch 5 and that makes it look wrong (not 5 & tr) so I'm wondering if the translation is right? I make my own like I thought it looks like on the pattern pic.

DROPS Design 08.10.2015 kl. 11:29:

Takk fyrir athugasemdina, mynstrið hefur verið lesið yfir og leiðrétt.

Sonali 11.07.2015 - 10:18:

Having finished the shawl, I found that 6 ch at the beginning and a double treble (British definition) at the end of each row gives a much better finish than 5 ch and treble as per the pattern. The ends are still slightly curved but not in a tight way. This suited my style much better than crocheting loosely at the start and end of each row.

Sonali 25.06.2015 - 16:41:

Meant to say, thanks for the patterns though

Sonali 25.06.2015 - 14:55:

Like others, A2 curves round and is not a straight line. If crocheting the first 5 and last 3 chains is the answer, this should really be incorporated into the pattern but my feeling is that this is a design fault. Having crocheted 9 rows of A2, I am reluctant to undo and rework these but suspect I may have to. I am not sure blocking will be the answer and don't want to get to the end of the shawl to find out.
