Hi, can I use this pattern for a plain cardigan using a single thread, if so which wool would I use? Thank you Sheila

Dear Sheila, yes, you could use this pattern that way - for a single yarn you can choose some from Yarn group C here . More informations about how tu replace yarns you could find in our DROPS Lessons - here . Happy knitting!

Hallo!

GARTER ST: K all rows. INCREASE TIP: All inc are done from RS. Inc 1 st by making 1 YO, on next row P YO twisted (i.e. work in back loop of st instead front) to avoid holes. BUTTON HOLES: 1 button hole = K 2 sts tog and make 1 YO. -------------------------------------------------------- BACK PIECE: Worked back and forth on needle. Cast on 76-84-90-98-108-118 sts (incl 1 edge st in garter st in each side) on circular needle size 4.5 mm with 2 threads brown. On 1st row (= RS) work rib as follows: 1 edge st in garter st - See explanation above, * K 1, P 1 *, repeat from *-* and finish with 1 edge st in garter st. Continue rib like this for 3 cm. Then switch to needle size 5 mm and continue in stocking st with 1 thread in each colour. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 45-46-47-48-49-50 cm, insert a marker at beg of row and at the end of row (beg of armholes). Continue until piece measures 62-64-66-68-70-72 cm, now cast off the middle 16-16-18-18-20-20 sts for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Cast off 2 sts on next row from neck = 28-32-34-38-42-47 sts remain on shoulder. Loosely cast off all sts when piece measures 64-66-68-70-72-74 cm. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Worked back and forth on needle. Cast on 40-44-46-50-56-60 sts (incl 1 edge st in garter st in each side) on circular needle size 4.5 mm with 2 threads brown. On 1st row (= RS) work rib as follows: 1 edge st in garter st, * K 1, P 1 *, repeat from *-* and finish with 1 edge st in garter st. Continue rib for 3 cm. Then switch to needle size 5 mm and continue in stocking st with 1 thread in each colour - At the same time dec 1-1-0-0-1-0 st on 1st row from RS = 39-43-46-50-55-60 sts. When piece measures 29-30-31-32-33-34 cm, cast off for neck as follows: Cast off 1 st at beg of next row from mid front. Repeat cast off every 6 rows in all sizes a total of 11-11-12-12-13-13 times = 28-32-34-38-42-47 sts remain on shoulder. When piece measures 45-46-47-48-49-50 cm, insert a marker at end of row (beg of armholes). Loosely cast off all sts when piece measures 64-66-68-70-72-74 cm. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Cast on and work as right front piece but reversed. SLEEVE: Worked back and forth on needle. Cast on 40-42-44-46-48-50 sts (incl 1 edge st in garter st in each side) on circular needle size 4.5 mm with 2 threads brown. On 1st row (= RS) work rib as follows: 1 edge st in garter st, * K 1, P 1 *, repeat from *-* and finish with 1 edge st in garter st. Continue rib like this for 3 cm. Then switch to needle size 5 mm and continue in stocking st with 1 thread in each colour. When piece measures 8-8-7-6-6-6 cm, inc 1 st inside 1 edge st in each side of piece. Repeat inc every 4-4-3½-3½-3-3 cm a total of 12-12-13-14-15-15 times = 64-66-70-74-78-80 sts. Continue until piece measures 58-57-56-55-53-51 cm (shorter measurements in the larger sizes because of broader shoulder width). Now cast off for sleeve cap on next row from RS as follows: Cast off 7-7-8-8-9-9 sts at beg of the next 6 rows = 22-24-22-26-24-26 sts remain. Loosely cast off all sts on next row from RS. Piece now measures approx. 61-60-59-58-56-54 cm. Work another sleeve. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams from RS with neat stitches. Sew in sleeves between the marker on front and back piece. Sew sleeve and side seams in one inside 1 edge st. BAND: Worked back and forth on circular needle size 4.5 mm with 2 threads brown. Beg at the bottom edge on right front piece, knit up from RS approx. 240-300 sts up along right front piece, around the neck and down along left front piece. K next row (= WS) - while at the same time adjusting no of sts to 263-271-281-289-297-305. Work rib on next row from RS as follows: K 1, * P 1, K 1 *, repeat from *-* the rest of row. Work 1 more row in rib. On next row (= RS), cast off for 4 button holes - Read explanation above - evenly on left band (between bottom edge and where neck beg). Continue to work 3 more rows in rib, on next row loosely cast off all sts with K over K and P over P. Sew the buttons on to the right band. POCKET: Cast on 27-29-31-33-35-35 sts on needle size 5 mm with 1 thread in each colour. Work in stocking st for 14-14-15-15-16-16 cm, then switch to needle size 4.5 mm and continue with 2 threads brown as follows: K 1, * P 1, K 1 *, repeat from *-*. When work measures approx. 16-16-17-17-18-18 cm, cast off all sts with K over K and P over P. Knit another pocket. Sew the pockets on to the middle of the right and left front piece, approx. 5 cm from cast on edge. |
