------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows (7 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 5 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows (7 stitches): Work until there are 7 stitches left on the row, work 5 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. RAGLAN: All increases are worked from the right side. Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next row: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCHES (yarn over twists to the left): Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). Continue the new stitches in stocking stitch. AFTER RAGLAN-STITCHES (yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn over from the left needle to the right needle purl-wise, then replace it by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is the other way round). Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). Continue the new stitches in stocking stitch. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knitting the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked 1 cm after the increases for the neck are finished. Then work the other 3-4-4-4-4-4-4 buttonholes with 6½-7-7-7-8-8-8 cm between each one. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The bands are worked first, back and forth with circular needle. Then stitches are knitted up for the yoke along the bands, and the yoke is continued back and forth, from mid-front and top down, increasing for raglan and for the V-neck. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. RIGHT BAND WITH I-CORD: Cast on 8 stitches with double pointed needles size 4 mm, 1 strand DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). RIGHT SIDE: Work as follows: 6 GARTER STITCHES - read explanation above, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. WRONG SIDE: Work as follows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 6 garter stitches. Work like this back and forth until the band measures 16-17-17-18-18-18-18 cm, with the last row from the wrong side. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder/thread. LEFT BAND WITH I-CORD: Knit up 8 stitches along the cast-on edge on the right band, using double pointed needles size 4 mm, 1 strand DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands) – make sure the garter stitches and I-cord match on the 2 bands. Stitches will later be knitted up along the bands, inside 1 garter stitch. RIGHT SIDE: Work as follows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 6 garter stitches. WRONG SIDE: Work as follows: Work 6 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. Work like this back and forth until the band measures 16-17-17-18-18-18-18 cm from the knitted-up row, with the last row from the wrong side. The bands measure a total of 32-34-34-36-36-36-36 cm (cast-on edge is in the middle). You now knit up stitches along one side of the band, inside 1 garter stitch on the next row from the right side as follows: Work 2 stitches I-cord as before, 4 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over (7 band-stitches), knit up 66-70-70-72-72-74-74 stitches along the band, with an equal number of stitches on each side of the cast-on edge in the middle of the band, finally work the stitches on the right band as follows: knit 2 together, 4 garter stitches and 2 stitches I-cord as before (7 band-stitches) = 80-84-84-86-86-88-88 stitches. Purl 1 row from the wrong side, with the BAND WITH I-CORD in each side – see explanation above. YOKE: Insert 4 markers as follows, without working the stitches and inserting each marker between 2 stitches (these 2 stitches are the raglan-stitches). You increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches. Count 9 stitches (= left front piece), insert marker-1 before the next stitch, count 20 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 before the next stitch, count 22-26-26-28-28-30-30 stitches (= back piece), insert marker-3 before the next stitch, count 20 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-1 before the next stitch. There are 9 stitches left (= right front piece). Remember to maintain the knitting tension YOKE: Continue stocking stitch back and forth with 7 band stitches on each side as before. AT THE SAME TIME increase for the V-neck and raglan at the same time. Read both sections before continuing. Start mid-front and from the right side. V-NECK: Increase for the V-neck inside the bands (7 stitches on each side) every 6th-4th-4th-4th-4th-4th-4th row a total of 9-11-11-12-12-13-13 times, by making 1 yarn over which is worked twisted on the next row to avoid a hole. 1 cm after the final increase for the V-neck, work the first BUTTONHOLE – read explanation above. RAGLAN: Increase for raglan on each side of 2 knitted stitches (with the marker in the middle) in each transition between the body and sleeves, every 2nd row (each row from the right side - 8 increased stitches) a total of 2-8-12-12-10-8-7 times. Then continue increasing for raglan, but every other increase is only on the front and back pieces (4 increased stitches). In other words, increase on the front and back pieces every 2nd row (each row from the right side) and for the sleeves every 4th row (every other row from the right side). Increase like this a total of 26-22-20-22-28-34-38 times on the body (13-11-10-11-14-17-19 increases in height on the sleeves). A total of 28-30-32-34-38-42-45 increases in height on the body and 15-19-22-23-24-25-26 increases in height on the sleeves. There are 270-302-322-338-358-382-398 stitches. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Work the first 46-50-52-55-59-64-67 stitches (= front piece), place the next 50-58-64-66-68-70-72 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 10-10-12-14-16-18-20 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 78-86-90-96-104-114-120 stitches (= back piece), place the next 50-58-64-66-68-70-72 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 10-10-12-14-16-18-20 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 46-50-52-55-59-64-67 stitches (= front piece). BODY: = 190-206-218-234-254-278-294 stitches. Continue the bands and stocking stitch until the piece measures 42-44-46-48-49-51-53 cm from after the neck mid-back. On the next row from the right side, begin the rib. AT THE SAME TIME increase 19-21-21-23-25-27-29 stitches evenly spaced (do not increase across the bands) = 209-227-239-257-279-305-323 stitches. Work as follows: Change to circular needle size 3 mm, work the band as before, then rib (knit 1 and purl 1 – remember to increase) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 1 and work the band as before. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm, cast off. The jacket measures approx. 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from the shoulder and 45-47-49-51-53-55-57 cm from mid-back. SLEEVES: Place the 50-58-64-66-68-70-72 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder/thread on circular needle size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 10-10-12-14-16-18-20 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 60-68-76-80-84-88-92 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread in the middle of the 10-10-12-14-16-18-20 new stitches under the sleeve. The round begins at the marker-thread. Work stocking stitch in the round - AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 round decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP, as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 3-5-8-9-10-11-12 times every 3½-3½-3½-3½-2½-2½-2 cm = 54-58-60-62-64-66-68 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 39-37-36-36-33-29-28 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1) AT THE SAME TIME increase 6 stitches evenly on the first round = 60-64-66-68-70-72-74 stitches. When the rib measures 6-6-6-6-7-7-7 cm, cast off. The sleeve measures approx. 45-43-42-42-40-36-35 cm from the division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
