------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Choose diagram for your size. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch. INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 86 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 18) = 4.8. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 5th stitch. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. The neck is folded double and fastened to the inside. NECK: Cast on 86-92-96-100-102-106 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm and colour yellow DROPS Air. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm (casting on with a larger needle size makes the cast-on edge elastic). Work stocking stitch in the round for 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm. Purl 1 round (= folding-edge). Change to colour wheat and continue with stocking stitch until the neck measures 8-8-8-10-10-10 cm from the cast-on edge. The beginning of the round is on the right back shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 30-32-33-35-35-36 stitches (approx. mid-front); the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Knit 1 round and increase 18-20-24-28-30-32 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 104-112-120-128-132-138 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the yoke measures 3-3-4-4-4-4 cm from the marker, increase 32-34-40-40-48-56 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP = 136-146-160-168-180-194 stitches. Work until the yoke measures 6-7-8-8-9-9 cm from the marker. Now work PATTERN – read description above, working A.1 in the round and increasing 34-34-40-42-50-56 stitches evenly spaced on the first round = 170-180-200-210-230-250 stitches (room for 17-18-20-21-23-25 repeats of A.1 in width after this increase). Continue the pattern, increasing stitches evenly spaced on each round marked with an arrow in A.1 as follows: Arrow-1: Increase 38-40-44-46-50-58 stitches evenly spaced = 208-220-244-256-280-308 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 36-40-44-48-52-52 stitches evenly spaced = 244-260-288-304-332-360 stitches. Arrow-3: Increase 12-12-12-12-12-12 stitches evenly spaced = 256-272-300-316-344-372 stitches. Continue working until the yoke measures 21-23-24-24-26-28 cm from the marker (all increases should be finished, and at least 5 rounds worked after the last increase-round). The pattern is not finished but is continued on the body and sleeves. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work the next round as follows: Place the first 48-50-56-60-64-68 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-8-12-12-12 stitches (in side mid-under sleeve), work 80-86-94-98-108-118 stitches (= front piece), place the next 48-50-56-60-64-68 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-8-12-12-12 stitches (in side mid-under sleeve), work the last 80-86-94-98-108-118 stitches (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately, starting the next round under one sleeve. Cut the strand. BODY: = 176-188-204-220-240-260 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 8-8-8-12-12-12 stitches cast on under one sleeve. Start at the marker and continue the pattern from the yoke; the pattern will not fit under each sleeve, work it as far as it goes in towards each side under the sleeves. The next pattern will fit in the round. When A.1 is finished in height, continue with stocking stitch and colour wheat until the piece measures 45-47-49-49-51-53 cm from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 32-32-36-40-44-44 stitches evenly spaced on the first round = 208-220-240-260-284-304 stitches. When the rib measures 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm, cast off. The jumper measures approx. 51-53-55-56-58-60 cm from the marker and 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 48-50-56-60-64-68 sleeve-stitches from the thread on one side of the piece on circular needle size 5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-8-12-12-12 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 56-58-64-72-76-80 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 8-8-8-12-12-12 stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and continue the pattern from the yoke in the round. The pattern will not fit under the sleeve -work it as far as it will go AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 3-3-3-2-2-2 cm, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 3-3-2-1½-1-1 cm a total of 4-4-6-10-11-12 times = 48-50-52-52-54-56 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 40-38-37-38-37-35 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 8-10-8-12-10-12 stitches evenly on the first round = 56-60-60-64-64-68 stitches. When the rib measures 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm, cast off. The sleeve measures approx. 46-44-43-45-44-42 cm. ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. |
