Hej!

I am knitting a Large. Instruction for BODY after knitting stocking stitch 116 stitches in the round for 24 cm is to Knit 1 round increasing 24 stitches evenly spaced =140 stitches. What is the logic behind increasing all these stitches only then in the next round to change to smaller needle and work the K1P1 rib? Why increase at all and not just go straight into the rib?
18.12.2023 - 16:34DROPS Design answered:
Dear Lynn, we don't want here the ribbing edge to tighten piece together, reason why we will increase as you need more stitches for rib with smaller needles than for stocking with larger needles. Happy knitting!

J’ai 56 mailles. Je dois placer mes marqueurs. Marqueur 18 m Marqueur 8 m. Marqueur 18 m. Marqueur 8 m. Total 52 mailles. Où est l’erreur?
04.12.2022 - 16:23DROPS Design answered:

Is the front piece including the neck part exactly the same as the back piece? Usually it is slightly different. Thanks!

Dear Mavis, yes, both sides are worked in the same way. It's worked in the round with no elevation for the neck in the back. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE/DECREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase/decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 60 stitches), and divide by the number of increases/decreases to be made (e.g. 6) = 10. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after each 10th stitch. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. When decreasing, knit together each 9th and 10th stitch. RAGLAN: Increase 2 stitches at each marker as follows: Work to the marker-stitch, make 1 yarn over, knit 1 (marker-stitch), 1 yarn over (= 8 stitches increased on the round). At the beginning of the round increase 1 stitch after the first marker, then at the end of the round increase 1 stitch after the last stitch (the first marker is in the first stitch on the round). On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves and sides of body): Decrease 1 stitch on either side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). CASTING-OFF TIP: To avoid the cast-off edge being tight you can cast off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as casting off; the yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, top down. The yoke is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked with short circular needle/double pointed needles. NECK: Cast on 58-60-64-68-72-76 stitches with short circular needle size 8 mm and 1 strand DROPS Wish or 2 strands DROPS Air. Change to short circular needle size 7 mm and work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 14 cm. Change to circular needle size 8 mm. Knit 1 round and decrease 6-6-8-8-10-10 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE/DECREASE TIP = 52-54-56-60-62-66 stitches. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round – the yoke is measured from here. YOKE: Insert 4 markers (without working the stitches) as follows: Insert a marker in the first stitch (= in the transition between the sleeve and back piece), count 16-17-18-20-21-23 stitches (= back piece), insert a marker in the next stitch, count 8 stitches, insert a marker in the next stitch, (= sleeve), count 16-17-18-20-21-23 stitches (= front piece), insert a marker in the next stitch, there are 8 stitches left (= sleeve). Continue with stocking stitch and increase to RAGLAN - read description above. Increase to raglan every 2nd round 15-16-17-18-20-21 times = 172-182-192-204-222-234 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! The piece measures approx. 19-21-22-23-26-27 cm from the marker on the neck. Continue with stocking stitch, without further increases, until the piece measures 21-23-24-26-27-29 cm from the marker. Now divide for the body and sleeves as follows: Knit 48-51-54-58-65-69, place the next 38-40-42-44-46-48 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 4-4-4-6-6-8 stitches (= in side under sleeve), knit 48-51-54-58-65-69 place the next 38-40-42-44-46-48 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 4-4-4-6-6-8 stitches (= in side under sleeve). BODY: = 104-110-116-128-142-154 stitches. Work stocking stitch in the round for 23-23-24-24-25-25 cm. Knit 1 round where you increase 20-22-24-24-28-28 stitches evenly spaced = 124-132-140-152-170-182 stitches. Change to circular needle size 7 mm and work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 8 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read CASTING-OFF TIP! The jumper measures approx. 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 38-40-42-44-46-48 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on double pointed needles/short circular needle size 8 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 4-4-4-6-6-8 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 42-44-46-50-52-56 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the new stitches under the sleeve and start the round from there. Continue with stocking stitch in the round for 2 cm. Then decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 6½-5-5-4-3½-3 cm a total of 6-7-7-8-9-10 times = 30-30-32-34-34-36 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 41-39-39-37-37-35 cm from the division (shorter measurements in larger sizes due to longer yoke). There is 7 cm left to finished length; try the jumper on and work to desired length. Change to double pointed needles size 7 mm and work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 7 cm. The sleeve measures approx. 48-46-46-44-44-42 cm from the division. Remember CASTING-OFF TIP and cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double, either to the inside or to the outside. If folded to the inside, sew the neck down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important the seam is elastic. |
