Buon lavoro!

Love the snowman but most of all I love the reminders during the pattern to read the notes. So clear and helpful. Also love the instructions stating the pattern is written in UK English...helps immensely for knowing which stitch to use. Might seem obvious to more experienced crocheters but to a slowly progressing novice it offers more certainty and confidence. Keep up the good work. Will be following closely for more projects!!

MAGIC CIRCLE: When piece is worked in the round, start with this technique to avoid hole in the middle (instead of ch-ring): Hold the yarn end and wind the yarn one time around the index finger to make a loop. Hold the loop with left thumb and middle finger, place the yarn over left index finger. Insert hook through the loop, make a YO and pull yarn through loop, work 1 ch, then work dc around the loop. When the desired no of dc have been reached, pull the yarn end to tighten the loop. Fasten the yarn end at the back. WORK IN THE ROUND IN A CIRCLE: After last dc on the round, continue to next round with 1 dc in next dc (= 1st dc from previous round). NOTE: Insert a marker at the beg of round between last dc on round and 1st dc on next round, move the marker upwards when working. CROCHET INFO (applies to head and scarf): Beg every row with 1 ch, work dc in every dc on row. CROCHET TOG: Work 1 dc but wait with last pull through (= 2 sts on hook), then work next dc but on last pull through, pull yarn through all sts on hook = 1 dc dec. COLOUR CHANGE: To get a nice colour change work last dc on round as follows: Insert hook in last st, get yarn, make a YO with the new colour and pull it through all sts on hook. NOTE: Do not cut the threads. ---------------------------------------------------------- SNOWMAN: First work in the round for body, then back and forth for head. Make a MAGIC CIRCLE - read explanation above - with white Paris on hook size 3 mm. ROUND 1: Work 6 dc in the magic circle. ROUND 2: READ WORK IN THE ROUND IN A CIRCLE! Work 2 dc in every dc = 12 dc. ROUND 3: * 1 dc in next dc, work 2 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 18 dc. ROUND 4: * 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, work 2 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 24 dc. ROUND 5: * 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, work 2 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 32 dc. ROUND 6: * 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc, work 2 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 40 dc. ROUND 7: Work 1 dc in every dc. Then work back and forth for head as follows: ROW 1: Work 1 ch, 1 dc in each of the next 6 dc, turn. ROW 2: READ CROCHET INFO! Work 2 dc in 1st dc, 1 dc in every dc until 1 dc remains, 2 dc in last dc = 8 dc, turn. ROW 3: Work 1 dc in every dc, turn. ROW 4: Work 2 dc in 1st dc, 1 dc in every dc until 1 dc remains, 2 dc in last dc = 10 dc, turn. ROW 5-6: Work 1 dc in every dc, turn. ROW 7: Work the first 2 dc tog, READ CROCHET TOG, 1 dc in each of the next 6 dc, work the last 2 dc tog = 8 dc, turn piece. ROW 8: Work the first 2 dc tog, 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc, work the last 2 dc tog = 6 dc, turn piece. ROW 9: Work the first 2 dc tog, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, work the last 2 dc tog = 4 dc, fasten off. Work another snowman (= back piece). ARM: Worked back and forth. With black work 9 ch (= ch-row), turn and work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sl st in each of the next 2 ch, * 4 ch, turn and work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sl st in each of the next 2 ch *, repeat from *-* 1 more time, work 1 sl st in last ch worked on ch-row, 1 sl st in each of the next 5 ch on ch-row, fasten off. Work another arm the same way. ASSEMBLY: Fasten arms on each side of body (on back piece). With black embroider eyes and mouth on head on front piece, make 2 knots on body for buttons. Make 1 knot with orange for nose, see picture. Place front piece and back piece on top of each other, WS against WS, and crochet them tog with white as follows: Work 1 sl st through both layers, * 2 ch, skip approx. 1 cm, 1 sl st in outer loops of edge sts *, repeat from *-* around the head and body. Finish with 1 sl st in 1st ch, fasten off. HAT: Worked in the round. Crochet 16 ch on hook size 3 mm with red and form a ring with 1 sl st in 1st ch. ROUND 1-4: Work 1 ch, 1 dc in every ch = 16 dc, finish round with 1 sl st in 1st dc. ROUND 5: 1 ch, * 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, work the next 2 dc tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 12 dc, finish with 1 sl st in 1st dc. ROUND 6: 1 ch, * 1 dc in next dc, work the next 2 dc tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 8 dc, finish with 1 sl st in 1st dc. ROUND 7: Work all sts tog 2 by 2 = 4 dc. Do not cut the yarn, work ch for approx. 12 cm for strap, finish with 1 sl st on last round, cut the yarn and keep approx. 20 cm for assembly. ASSEMBLY: With dark turquoise embroider 1 star on hat, see picture. Fasten hat on head. SCARF: Worked back and forth. ROW 1: Work 4 ch with red on hook size 3 mm, turn and work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in each of the next 2 ch = 3 dc, turn. ROW 2: Work 1 dc in every dc - but in last dc switch to dark turquoise - READ COLOUR CHANGE, turn. ROW 3: Work 1 dc in every dc. ROW 4: Work 1 dc in every dc - but in last dc switch to red. Then repeat ROW 1-5 - i.e. work 1 dc in every st and switch colour every other row - until scarf measures approx. 30 cm (finish with 2 rows red), fasten off. Tie the scarf around the neck. |
