Hello, in the Front section, it says: "Bind off for armholes every other row: 3 sts 1 (1-2) times, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times = 37 (40-40) sts." Should I bind off 3 stitches for each armhole separately, or is this the total for both sides? Also, if both armholes are bound off, how do 37 stitches remain? Thanks
07.01.2025 - 07:43DROPS Design answered:
Dear GJ, for the front pieces you will cast off the stitches for the armhole at the beginning of a row from armhole, ie at the beg of a row from RS for left front piece/from WS for right front piece. Cast off 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time and 1 st 2 times = 7 sts have been cast off in total, so that you get 44-7=37 sts left. Happy knitting!

Mvh Marie

Love the look of this sweater! But the directions are a bit confusing: 1. Between the YO’s is there a knit stitch? 2. When working the left front panel, does the pattern need to be done in reverse to get the M2a next to the button band? If so, do the types of decreases get reversed too? To keep the sweater symmetrical.

Bon tricot!

When this garment was made with the now discontinued silk yarn was the yarn used with two strands? I would like to make this pattern in a yarn with some silk content so I can use it for evening wear. Making it in a heavy cotton does not suit its intended purpose.

Dear Lorraine, This DROPS Silke was group C - correction will be done, so that you can use eg DROPS Paris as an alternative. Happy knitting!

Hi another question, if I knit sleeves on straight needles, does pattern change, what about alternate row. Thanks again
03.02.2017 - 20:20DROPS Design answered:
Dear Crissie, please read here how to adjust a pattern on straight needles. Start reading diagrams starting from the bottom corner on the right side towards the left from RS and work from WS reading from the left towards the right. Happy knitting!

Knitting tip!: Casting off in lace pattern: When casting off sts for the armholes, sleeve cap and neck; - be aware that the YOs and K tog in the lace pattern can dec or inc the no of sts – so check that the right no. of sts have been cast off. Increasing in lace pattern: When increasing sts mid under sleeve; - be aware that YOs and K tog in the lace pattern can dec or inc the increase – so check that the right no. of sts have been increased. Body: The jacket is worked back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 173 (185-197) sts (incl. 2 x 5 sts for band) on circular needle size 5 with white and work Pattern 1 (M1) upwards – but the 5 outermost sts in each side towards mid front are worked in ridges upwards. Remember to work the buttonholes on right front piece upwards (see description above). Remember the knitting tension. When the piece measures 27 (31-32) cm work the next row as follows: 44 (47-50) sts front piece, cast off 4 sts for armhole, 77 (83-89) sts back piece, cast off 4 sts for armhole, 44 (47-50) sts front piece. Work front and back pieces separately. Front piece: = 44 (47-50) sts. The next row is worked as follows from mid front: 5 sts garter st (= band), M.2A, the remaining sts worked in M.2B, but the outermost sts towards armhole (= edge sts) are always worked in garter st. Continue the pattern upwards, while at the same time casting off for armhole – see Knitting tip! – every 2nd row: 3 sts x 1 (1-2), 2 sts x 1, 1 st x 2 = 37 (40-40) sts. When the piece measures 40 (42-42) cm cast off towards the neck every 2nd row: 11 (12-12) sts x 1, 3 sts x 1, 2 sts x 1, 1 st x 2. Cast off when piece measures 50 (54-56) cm. Back piece: = 77 (83-89) sts. Work M.2B upwards – make sure to position a repeat mid back – at the same time as the outermost sts in each side are always worked in garter st upwards. At the same time, cast off for armhole as for front piece - see Knitting tip = 63 (69-69) sts. When the piece measures 48 (52-54) cm cast off the middle 21 (23-23) sts for neck. Then cast off 2 sts on next row towards neck. Cast off when piece measures 50 (54-56) cm. Sleeves: Cast on 54 (54-54) sts on double pointed needles size 5 with white and work 2 ridges, then work M.2B – make sure to position a repeat mid top of sleeve. When the piece measures 8 cm – adjust to the pattern – work 2 ridges, while at the same time casting off 18 (18-18) sts evenly spaced on 1 round of the ridges = 36 (36-36) sts. After the ridges work M.2B upwards – make sure to position a repeat mid top of sleeve – at the same time as inc. mid under sleeve: 2 sts x 18 (18-19) for S+M: Every 4th row, L: Alternately every 3rd and 4th row = 72 (72-74) sts - see Knitting tip! -. Work the in sts into pattern. When piece measures 45 (44-44) cm cast off the 4 sts mid under sleeve and complete the piece working back and forth on needle. Continue to cast off for sleeve cap in each side every 2nd row: 3 sts x 2, 2 sts x 3 (3-4), 1 st x 2 (2-3), 2 sts x 4, 3 sts x 2, cast off. The piece measures approx. 57 (56-58) cm. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 75-90 sts around neck on circular needle size 5 with white and work 2 ridges, cast off. Crochet borders: The borders are crocheted around the neck and at bottom of sleeves. Crochet from RS with white and crochet hook size 4 as follows: 1 dc, * 4 ch over 1 knitted st, 1 sl st in next knitted st *, repeat *-*. Sew in sleeves and buttons. |
