------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.6. Choose diagram for your size (applies to A.5 and A.6). DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). KNITTING TIP: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. INCREASE TIP (for neck): All increases are worked from the right side. When the knitted stitch and yarn over are knitted together, work as follows in the stitch and yarn over: Knit 1, make 1 yarn over, knit 1, make 1 yarn over, knit 1 (4 increased stitches). Work the new knit stitches into the English rib - on the row after increasing knit the yarn overs from the wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band from the right side, as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit 2 together, make 1 yarn over. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knitting the yarn over to leave a hole. The top button on the neck is buttoned through the increase on the neck, so there is no buttonhole worked for this button. The bottom buttonhole is worked 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm above the bottom edge. The other 6-6-6-6-7-7-7 buttonholes evenly spaced between. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The yoke is worked back and forth with circular needle, top down. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. Bands are worked around the whole opening. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. YOKE: Cast on 89-93-95-99-105-109-113 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm, 1 strand DROPS Merino Extra Fine or 1 strand DROPS Daisy and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Insert 1 marker inside 1 stitch on one side; the piece is measured from here. Work 2 rows of stocking stitch back and forth with 1 edge-stitch in GARTER STITCH – read explanation above, on each side. ELEVATION: So the jacket is slightly higher at the back when working a round yoke, you can work an elevation. Skip this section if you do not want an elevation. Use German Short Rows to turn – read KNITTING TIP. Insert 1 marker in the middle stitch on the row (mid-back). Start from the right side and knit to 12-13-14-15-16-17-18 stitches past the marker-stitch, turn, tighten the strand, purl 25-27-29-31-33-35-37 stitches. Turn, tighten the strand and knit 37-40-43-46-49-52-55 stitches, turn, tighten the strand and purl 49-53-57-61-65-69-73 stitches. Turn, tighten the strand and knit 61-66-71-76-81-86-91 stitches, turn, tighten the strand and purl 73-79-85-91-97-103-109 stitches. Turn, tighten the strand and knit to end of row, turn and purl 1 row (edge-stitches in garter stitch). Now continue the yoke. When the piece measures 2 cm from the marker work as follows: 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch, work 9-9-10-10-11-11-11 stocking stitches, then A.1 17-18-18-19-20-21-22 times in width, 10-10-11-11-12-12-12 stocking stitches and 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch = 123-129-131-137-145-151-157 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the piece measures 5 cm from the marker, continue as follows: 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch, 9-9-10-10-11-11-11 stocking stitches, A.2 17-18-18-19-20-21-22 times, 10-10-11-11-12-12-12 stocking stitches, 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch = 157-165-167-175-185-193-201 stitches. When the piece measures 8-8-8-8-8-8-9 cm from the marker, continue as follows: 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch, 9-9-10-10-11-11-11 stocking stitches, A.3 17-18-18-19-20-21-22 times, 10-10-11-11-12-12-12 stocking stitches, 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch = 191-201-203-213-225-235-245 stitches. When the piece measures 11-11-12-12-11-11-13 cm from the marker, continue as follows: 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch, 9-9-10-10-11-11-11 stocking stitches, A.4 17-18-18-19-20-21-22 times, 10-10-11-11-12-12-12 stocking stitches, 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch = 225-237-239-251-265-277-289 stitches. When the piece measures 14-15-16-16-14-15-17 cm from the marker, continue as follows: 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch, 9-9-10-10-11-11-11 stocking stitches, A.5 17-18-18-19-20-21-22 times, 10-10-11-11-12-12-12 stocking stitches, 1 edge-stitch in garter stitch = 242-255-275-289-305-319-333 stitches. The increases are finished in sizes XS, S, M and L; the next section only applies to sizes XL, XXL and XXXL. When the piece measures 0-0-0-0-18-19-21 cm from the marker, continue as follows: Work 0-0-0-0-1-1-1 edge-stitch in garter stitch, 0-0-0-0-11-11-11 stocking stitches, A.6 0-0-0-0-20-21-22 times, 0-0-0-0-12-12-12 stocking stitches, 0-0-0-0-1-1-1 edge-stitch in garter stitch = 242-255-275-289-325-340-355 stitches. When the piece measures 18-19-20-21-23-24-26 cm from the marker, work 1 row where the stitch count is adjusted to 240-252-276-292-324-344-360 stitches. Work stocking stitch and edge-stitches as before until the yoke measures 19-20-21-22-24-25-27 cm from the marker. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Work 38-40-44-46-50-54-58 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 44-46-50-54-62-64-64 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-10-10-12-14 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 76-80-88-92-100-108-116 stitches (back piece), place the next 44-46-50-54-62-64-64 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-10-10-12-14 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 38-40-44-46-50-54-58 stitches as before (= front piece piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 164-176-192-204-220-240-260 stitches. Continue stocking stitch and edge-stitches as before until there is 1 row left from the right side before the piece measures 43-45-46-48-49-51-52 cm from the marker. Knit 1 row from the right side, increasing 1 stitch = 165-177-193-205-221-241-261 stitches. On the next row from the wrong side begin the rib. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm. ROW 1 (wrong side): 1 edge-stitch as before, * make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit 1 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, 1 edge-stitch. ROW 2 (right side): 1 edge-stitch, * knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, purl 1 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, 1 edge-stitch. Repeat ROWS 1 and 2 for 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, finishing after a row from the wrong side. Cast off with knit, making sure the cast-off edge is not tight (use a larger needle if necessary). The jumper measures approx. 47-49-50-52-54-56-57 cm from the marker and 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 44-46-50-54-62-64-64 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-8-8-10-10-12-14 cast-on stitches under the sleeve = 50-54-58-64-72-76-78 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 6-8-8-10-10-12-14 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Work stocking stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 round, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2nd round 1-2-2-2-3-3-3 times, then every 2 cm 0-0-0-1-2-3-2 times = 48-50-54-58-62-64-68 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 19-19-20-20-17-17-16 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and work rib as follows: ROUND 1: * Make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 *, work from *-* to end of round. ROUND 2: * Knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, purl 1 *, work from *-* to end of round. Repeat ROUNDS 1 and 2 for 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm. Cast off with knit. The sleeve measures approx. 23-23-24-24-22-22-21 cm from the division. BANDS AND NECK: The bands and neck are worked in one piece. Use circular needle size 3.5 mm. Start from the right side at the bottom of the right front piece. Knit up 79-83-85-89-91-95-97 stitches up the edge of the front piece (inside 1 edge-stitch and the stitch count an odd number), knit up 1 stitch outermost on the neckline and insert a marker in this stitch, Knit up 87-91-93-97-103-107-111 stitches along the neckline (inside 1 edge-stitch and the stitch count an odd number), knit up 1 stitch outermost on the neckline and insert a marker in this stitch, knit up 79-83-85-89-91-95-97 stitches down the edge of the left front piece (inside 1 edge-stitch and the stitch count an odd number) = 247-259-265-277-287-299-307 stitches. Work back and forth, increasing stitches by the markers on every 2nd row from the right side (i.e. on every 4th row) as follows: ROW 1 (wrong side): 1 edge-stitch as before, * make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit 1 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, 1 edge-stitch. ROW 2 (right side): 1 edge-stitch, * knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, purl 1 *, work from *-* along the edge, increasing in each marker-stitch – read INCREASE TIP in explanations above, and working until there are 2 stitches left, knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, 1 edge-stitch. Repeat ROWS 1 and 2 until the bands measure 1½ cm. Work the BUTTONHOLES on the right band – read explanation above. Continue working until the bands measure 3 cm, finishing with a row from the wrong side. Cast off with knit from the right side, making sure the cast-off edge is not tight (use a larger needle if necessary). ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band; the top button is positioned so it can be buttoned through the increase on the neck. |
