------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. ELEVATION: So the jacket is slightly higher at the back of the neck when working the yoke, you can work an elevation. Skip this section if you do not want an elevation. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the row (mid-back). Start from the right side and work as before until you have worked 12-13-13-14-15-16-17 stitches past the marker, turn – read KNITTING TIP-1, purl 24-26-26-28-30-32-34. Turn and knit 36-39-39-42-45-48-51, turn and purl 48-52-52-56-60-64-68. Turn and knit 60-65-65-70-75-80-85, turn and purl 72-78-78-84-90-96-102. Turn and work to end of row (edge stitches worked as before). Turn and purl 1 row (edge-stitches worked as before). Continue the yoke as described in the text. KNITTING TIP-1: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. KNITTING TIP-2: To avoid the knitting tension becoming tight when working pattern, it is important that the strands at the back are not tight. Use a size larger needle when working pattern if this is necessary. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch. Choose diagram for your size (applies to A.3). The diagrams are read from right to left when working from the right side and left to right when working from the wrong side. INCREASE TIP: To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 105 stitches), minus 7 stitches on each side which are not increased across, and divide the remaining stitches by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 18) = 5.1. In this example, increase by working as follows in approx. every 5th stitch (don't increase over the 7 stitches on each side). This symmetrical method of increasing gives 1 new stitch. Follow points 1 - 4: 1. Keep the working strand behind the piece. Slip the first stitch on the left needle purl-wise onto the right needle. 2. Take the left needle behind the slipped stitch and between the slipped stitch and the next stitch on the right needle. 3. Make 1 yarn over around the right needle and pull it through the stitch (1 new stitch on the right needle). 4. Slip the front stitch-loop off the left needle, then knit through the front of the other stitch-loop. 1 increased stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band from the right side as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together (make sure these 2 stitches are 1 purled and 1 knitted stitch in this order), make 1 yarn over. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the rib as before, knitting the yarn over to leave a hole. Work 6-6-6-6-7-7-7 buttonholes when the band measures 1½ cm. The top buttonhole is 2 cm below the top cast-on edge, the bottom buttonhole 12-12-12-11-11-12-14 cm above the bottom edge. The other 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 buttonholes are worked with 7½-8-8½-9-8-8-8 cm between each one. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down, increasing for the yoke. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. Stitches are knitted up along the front pieces for the bands, which are worked back and forth to finish. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 105-107-113-117-121-125-131 stitches with circular needle size 2.5 mm and colour Light Beige DROPS Merino Extra Fine or colour Light Oak DROPS Karisma. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Work the next row from the right side as follows: 1 GARTER STITCH – read explanation above, work rib (knit 1 and purl 1) until there are 2 stitches left, knit 1 and 1 garter stitch. Continue this rib back and forth until the neck measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm, with the next row from the right side. Insert 1 marker after 1 edge stitch (mid-front); the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm. From the right side: Work 1 garter stitch, 6 stocking stitches, then 91-93-99-103-107-111-117 stocking stitches where you increase 18-22-24-26-28-34-36 stitches evenly across these stitches – read INCREASE TIP, work 6 stocking stitches and 1 garter stitch = 123-129-137-143-149-159-167 stitches. You can now work an ELEVATION at the back of the neck – read explanation above. When the elevation is finished, continue with the yoke. If you do not want an elevation, go straight to the next paragraph. Continue stocking stitch with 1 garter stitch on each side. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the yoke measures 2½-2½-2½-3-3-4-4 cm from the marker, increase 32-36-38-40-42-46-46 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP (do not increase across the outermost 7 stitches on each side) = 155-165-175-183-191-205-213 stitches. When the yoke measures 5-5-5-6-6-7-7 cm from the marker, increase 34-36-38-38-42-44-44 stitches evenly spaced = 189-201-213-221-233-249-257 stitches. Continue stocking stitch with 1 garter stitch on each side until the yoke measures 6-6-6-7-7-8-8 cm from the marker. On the next row from the right side, begin the PATTERN as follows – read explanation above, and read KNITTING TIP-2: 1 garter stitch, work A.1 until there are 4 stitches left on the row, work A.2 and 1 garter stitch. Continue this pattern, increasing as shown in diagram A.1; in addition increase as follows on each row marked with an arrow in A.1 – remember INCREASE TIP (do not increase across the outermost 7 stitches on each side): Arrow-1: Increase 31-33-35-41-43-41-47 stitches evenly spaced = 220-234-248-262-276-290-304 stitches. Continue the pattern (next row from the wrong side): 1 garter stitch, work A.2, then A.1 31-33-35-37-39-41-43 times, 1 garter stitch. Continue the pattern, increasing as shown in A.1. After the final increase (before arrow-2), there are 282-300-318-336-354-372-390 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 23-29-27-29-35-37-35 stitches evenly spaced = 305-329-345-365-389-409-425 stitches. Now work pattern as follows: 1 garter stitch, work A.3 until there are 4 stitches left on the row, work A.4 and 1 garter stitch. Continue the pattern and increase as follows on the row marked with an arrow in A.3: Arrow-3: Increase 20-24-24-24-28-28-28 stitches evenly spaced = 325-353-369-389-417-437-453 stitches. Continue, repeating A.3 and A.4 in height, without further increases, until the yoke measures 20-21-23-24-25-26-28 cm from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. A.3 and A.4 are continued on both the body and sleeves; make sure the increases in A.3 are finished before dividing. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work 50-55-57-60-65-70-74 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 64-68-72-76-80-80-80 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 97-107-111-117-127-137-145 stitches (= back piece), place the next 64-68-72-76-80-80-80 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 50-55-57-60-65-70-74 stitches as before (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 213-233-249-269-289-317-341 stitches. Continue the pattern from the yoke, i.e., work A.3 and A.4 back and forth with 1 garter stitch on each side, until the piece measures 39-41-43-44-46-46-48 cm from the marker mid-front; finish after row 3, 13 or 23 in A.3/4. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 garter stitch on each side, working with colour Light Beige/Oak. Work until the piece measures 45-47-49-51-52-53-55 cm from the marker mid-front. On the next row from the right side, begin the rib as follows. AT THE SAME TIME increase 42-48-48-54-56-64-66 stitches evenly on the row – remember INCREASE TIP (do not increase the edge stitches) = 255-281-297-323-345-381-407 stitches: Change to circular needle size 2.5 mm. Work 1 garter stitch, rib (knit 1 and purl 1 – remember to increase) until there are 2 stitches left, knit 1 and work 1 garter stitch. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with knit above knit and purl above purl. The jacket measures approx. 49-51-53-55-57-58-60 cm from the marker mid-front and 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 64-68-72-76-80-80-80 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder/thread on circular needle size 3.5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 72-76-84-92-96-100-104 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread in the middle of the 8-10-12-14-16-20-24 new stitches under the sleeve. The round begins at the marker-thread. Continue the pattern from the yoke in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 round, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 times every 2nd round, then 2 stitches 0-0-4-6-7-7-9 times every 2 cm = 68-72-72-76-76-80-80 stitches. Continue the pattern until the sleeve measures approx. 36-36-34-33-32-32-30 cm from the division, finishing after round 3, 13 or 23 in A.3. Continue stocking stitch with colour Light Beige/Oak until the sleeve measures 42-42-40-40-38-39-37 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1). When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 46-46-44-44-43-44-42 cm from the division. LEFT BAND: Using circular needle size 2.5 mm and colour Light Beige/Oak, start from the right side on the left front piece and knit up 134-140-146-150-158-162-166 stitches inside the 1 edge stitch (approx. 26 stitches per 10 cm – the stitch count should be divisible by 2). Work as follows: ROW 1 (wrong side): 1 garter stitch, work rib (purl 1 and knit 1) until there are 3 stitches left, purl 1 and work 2 garter stitches. ROW 2 (right side): 2 garter stitches, work rib (knit 1 and purl 1) until there are 2 stitches left, knit 1 and 1 garter stitch. Repeat ROWS 1 and 2 until the band measures 3-3-3-3-3-3½-3½ cm. Cast off with knit above knit and purl above purl. RIGHT BAND: Knit up the same number of stitches and work in the same way as the left band but with 2 garter stitches by the neck and 1 garter stitch on the bottom edge. When the band measures 1½ cm, work 6-6-6-6-7-7-7 BUTTONHOLES evenly spaced – read explanation above. After the buttonholes continue the band to the same width as the left band. Cast off with knit above knit and purl above purl. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
