------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows (7 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 5 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows (7 stitches): Work until there are 7 stitches left on the row, work 5 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck is finished. Then work the other 7 buttonholes with 6½-6½-7-7-7-7½-7½ cm between each one. The bottom buttonhole is worked in the transition between the stocking stitch and rib. ELEVATION (back of neck): To make the back of the neck slightly higher when working a round yoke, you can work an elevation as described here. Skip this section if you do not want an elevation. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the row (= mid-back) – read KNITTING TIP. Work the next 6 rows back and forth as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work to 13-14-15-16-17-18-19 stitches past the marker-thread mid-back, turn, tighten the strand. ROW 2: Purl 26-28-30-32-34-36-38, turn, tighten the strand. ROW 3: Knit 39-42-45-48-51-54-57, turn, tighten the strand. ROW 4: Purl 52-56-60-64-68-72-76, turn, tighten the strand. ROW 5: Knit 65-70-75-80-85-90-95, turn, tighten the strand. ROW 6: Purl 78-84-90-96-102-108-114, turn, tighten the strand. Knit to end of row (with the band as before), turn and purl 1 row (with the bands as before) then continue the yoke as described in the text. KNITTING TIP: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. INCREASE TIP-1: To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 136 stitches), minus 20 stitches on each side, then divide the remaining stitches by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 11) = 8.7. In this example, increase as follows after approx. each 9th stitch. Do not increase across the 20 outermost stitches on each side. This is done to keep mid-front a straight line when working the round yoke. All increases are worked from the right side. This symmetrical method of increasing gives 1 new stitch. Follow points 1-4: 1. Hold the working strand behind the piece, slip the first stitch on the left needle purl-wise to the right needle. 2. Insert the left needle behind the slipped stitch then between the slipped stitch and the first stitch on the right needle. 3. Make 1 yarn over the right needle, pull it through the stitch to give 1 new stitch on the right needle. 4. Slip the outermost stitch-loop off the left needle and knit through the other stitch-loop which lies on the front of the needle. 1 increased stitch. INCREASE TIP-2: All increases are worked from the right side! Increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread. Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 8 (marker-thread sits in middle of these 8 stitches), make 1 yarn over. On the next row work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes (2 increased stitches). PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. The diagrams are read from right to left when working from the right side and left to right when working from the wrong side. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down. If you wish an elevation can be worked after the neck is finished. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 136-140-144-148-156-164-172 stitches with circular needle size 2.5 mm and DROPS Alpaca or DROPS Flora. Work the first row from the wrong side as follows: 7 stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD read explanation above, work rib (purl 2, knit 2) until there are 9 stitches left, purl 2, work 7 stitches according to bands with I-cord. From the right side work as follows: 7 stitches according to bands with I-cord, work rib (knit 2, purl 2) until there are 9 stitches left, knit 2, work 7 stitches according to bands with I-cord. Continue this rib for 3-3-3-3½-3½-4-4 cm. Insert 1 marker inside one band (= mid-front), the piece is measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 3 mm and work the first row from the right side: Work stocking stitch with 7 band-stitches on each side, AT THE SAME TIME increase 11-13-15-17-19-25-27 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP-1 and do not increase across the bands. Remember the first BUTTONHOLE – read explanation above = 147-153-159-165-175-189-199 stitches. You can now work an ELEVATION at the back of the neck – read explanation above, then continue as follows. If you do not want an elevation, continue as follows. Work stocking stitch and the bands. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the yoke measures 2-2-3-3-3-3-3 cm from the marker, increase 26-28-30-32-34-36-38 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP-1 (do not increase across the outermost 20 stitches on each side) = 173-181-189-197-209-225-237 stitches. When the yoke measures 4-5-6-6-6-6-7 cm from the marker, increase 26-30-34-36-40-42-46 stitches evenly spaced = 199-211-223-233-249-267-283 stitches. When the yoke measures 5-6-7-7-7-7-8 cm from the marker and the next row is from the right side, work PATTERN – read explanation above, as follows: Work the band as before, work A.1 until there are 8 stitches left, then A.2 and the band as before. From the wrong side: Work the band as before, work A.2, then A.1 until there are 7 stitches left, the band as before. Continue this pattern, repeating the diagrams in height. AT THE SAME TIME, increase as follows, always increasing in a section of stocking stitch, do not increase across the 20 stitches on each side: When the yoke measures 6-7-8-8-8-8-9 cm from the marker, increase 28-32-34-36-40-42-46 stitches evenly spaced = 227-243-257-269-289-309-329 stitches. When the yoke measures 8-9-10-10-10-10-11 cm from the marker, increase 28-32-34-36-40-42-46 stitches evenly spaced = 255-275-291-305-329-351-375 stitches. When the yoke measures 10-11-12-12-12-12-13 cm from the marker, increase 28-32-34-36-40-42-46 stitches evenly spaced = 283-307-325-341-369-393-421 stitches. When the yoke measures 12-13-14-14-14-14-15 cm from the marker, increase 28-32-34-36-40-42-46 stitches evenly spaced = 311-339-359-377-409-435-467 stitches. When the yoke measures 14-15-16-16-16-16-17 cm from the marker, increase 22-24-26-36-40-42-46 stitches evenly spaced = 333-363-385-413-449-477-513 stitches. When the yoke measures 16-17-19-18-18-19-20 cm from the marker, increase 22-24-26-20-22-24-26 stitches evenly spaced = 355-387-411-433-471-501-539 stitches. The increases are finished in sizes XS, S and M. Go to ALL SIZES. In sizes L, XL, XXL and XXXL increase as follows: When the yoke measures 0-0-0-20-20-22-23 cm from the marker, increase 0-0-0-18-20-22-24 stitches evenly spaced = 355-387-411-451-491-523-563 stitches. ALL SIZES: When all the increases are finished, continue the pattern and bands without further increases until the yoke measures 19-20-22-23-23-25-27 cm from the marker. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work 57-62-67-72-77-84-91 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 70-76-78-88-98-100-106 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-14-16 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 101-111-121-131-141-155-169 stitches (= back piece), place the next 70-76-78-88-98-100-106 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-14-16 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 57-62-67-72-77-84-91 stitches as before (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 231-251-275-295-319-351-383 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-12-14-16 stitches cast on under each sleeve. Allow the threads to follow your work onwards, they are used when increasing in the sides of the body. Continue back and forth with pattern and the bands, making sure the pattern continues from the yoke. When the body measures 5 cm from the division, increase 1 stitch on each side of both marker-threads – read INCREASE TIP-2 (4 increased stitches). NOTE: Increase in a section of stocking stitch in the pattern. Increase like this every 5-5-5½-5½-5½-5½-5½ cm a total of 4 times = 247-267-291-311-335-367-399 stitches. Work until the piece measures 40-42-44-45-45-47-48 cm from the marker mid-front. There is approx 7-7-7-8-9-9-10 cm left to finished length. Continue with stocking stitch and the bands until the piece measures 44-46-48-50-50-52-54 cm from the marker. On the next row from the right side, begin the rib, AT THE SAME TIME increase 57-61-65-69-77-85-93 stitches evenly on the first row – read INCREASE TIP (do not increase across the bands) = 304-328-356-380-412-452-492 stitches, working as follows: Change to circular needle size 2.5 mm. Work the band as before, rib (knit 2, purl 2 – remember to increase) until there are 9 stitches left, knit 2 and work the band as before. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm, cast off with rib. The jacket measures approx. 47-49-51-53-54-56-58 cm from the marker mid-front and 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 70-76-78-88-98-100-106 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 3 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-10-10-12-14-16 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 78-84-88-98-110-114-122 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-12-14-16 stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Work A.3 in the round, making sure the pattern continues from the yoke. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 2 cm from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2 cm a total of 4-4-4-3-3-1-0 times = 70-76-80-92-104-112-122 stitches. NOTE: Always decrease in a section of stocking stitch in the pattern. Continue working until the sleeve measures 12-12-10-10-11-9-8 cm from the division, then work stocking stitch until the sleeve measures 15-15-13-13-13-11-10 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 14-16-16-16-16-20-22 stitches evenly on the first round = 84-92-96-108-120-132-144 stitches. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm, cast off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 18-18-16-16-17-15-14 cm from the division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
