Just finished this sweater and it is beautiful. Fairly easy instructions as well. One thing I wish that I researched a little more is fixing the holes where the armpits are.

Hello, I just wanted to say that if anyone is thinking of knitting this in Air, it is a good idea to knit up a tension swatch, even if you don’t normally do so. I knit a lot of Drops patterns, and my tension usually matches the pattern. However, in this instance I had to go up half a size needles to achieve the correct tension. Sadly I had knitted up almost all the sweater before realising and checking my measurements!! Yes, this is indeed a classic error and I can’t believe I made it!

Please delete/disregard my previous post. I apologize for my mistake. I was using Drops Karisma and did not notice that there is less meters on those skeins. So sorry!

I knit almost half of this sweater only to realize that I would not have enough of the main color to finish. Size 3/4, 150g (3 skeins) is not enough. My guage was correct. Now I'm ripping out all that beautiful color work. Not good!

I have made the jumper and it looks superb. The tension and size are as the pattern says BUT I do not have enough main wool to complete the jumper even though I ordered the correct amount! Very disappointing!
15.11.2024 - 14:50DROPS Design answered:
Dear Jane, you can see in other patterns which use Sky that the amount is similar to that in this pattern, so the wool should be enough, as long as the gauge and measurements match. Take into account that the jumper is not very long, only up to the waist, in case it seems that the wool is not enough to make it longer. Also, check if the threads in the jacquard section were tight enough; otherwise, if you had loose threads then you would be using more yarn there that what was calculated for. Happy knitting!

Hello! Koszonom!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 80 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 16) = 5. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after each 5th stitch. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch. KNITTING TIP: To avoid the knitting tension losing its elasticity when working pattern, it is important that the strands at the back are not tight. Use a size larger needle when working pattern if the piece becomes tight. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, from mid back and top down. The yoke is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked in the round with double pointed needles. NECK: Cast on 80-80-84-84-88-88 stitches with short circular needle/double pointed needles size 3 mm and colour cranberry DROPS Sky. Knit 1 round. Change to colour white fog and work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 3 cm. Knit 1 round and increase 16-20-20-24-24-28 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP= 96-100-104-108-112-116 stitches. Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round (mid-back); the yoke is measured from here! YOKE: Read KNITTING TIP and work A.1 in the round. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! AT THE SAME TIME on each round marked with an arrow in A.1, increase as follows – remember INCREASE TIP: Arrow-1: Increase 20-24-24-24-24-28 stitches evenly spaced = 116-124-128-132-136-144 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 24-24-24-24-28-28 stitches evenly spaced = 140-148-152-156-164-172 stitches. Arrow-3: Increase 24-24-24-24-28-28 stitches evenly spaced = 164-172-176-180-192-200 stitches. Arrow-4: Increase 24-24-28-28-28-32 stitches evenly spaced = 188-196-204-208-220-232 stitches. Arrow-5: Increase 24-28-32-32-32-32 stitches evenly spaced = 212-224-236-240-252-264 stitches. Finish A.1, then continue with colour white fog until the yoke measures 16-16-16-17-18-19 cm from the marker on the neck. Divide for the body and sleeves on the next round as follows: Knit 31-33-35-36-38-40 (half back piece), place the next 44-46-48-48-50-52 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-6-8-8-8 stitches (in side under sleeve), knit 62-66-70-72-76-80 (front piece), place the next 44-46-48-48-50-52 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-6-8-8-8 stitches (in side under sleeve), knit the last 31-33-35-36-38-40 stitches (half back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. The piece is now measured from here! BODY: = 136-144-152-160-168-176 stitches. Continue in the round with stocking stitch and colour white fog for a further 15-19-23-25-26-27 cm. Knit 1 round and increase 36-36-36-40-40-40 stitches evenly spaced = 172-180-188-200-208-216 stitches. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 2½-2½-2½-3½-3½-3½ cm, then work 2 rounds of rib in colour cranberry. Cast off with rib. The jumper measures approx. 36-40-44-48-50-52 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 44-46-48-48-50-52 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on double pointed needles size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-6-6-8-8-8 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 50-52-54-56-58-60 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the new stitches under the sleeve and allow it to follow your work onwards; it is used when decreasing under the sleeve. Work stocking stitch in the round with colour white fog. When the sleeve measures 3 cm, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 1½-2½-3-3½-4-4 cm a total of 6-7-7-7-7-8 times = 38-38-40-42-44-44 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 14-20-24-27-31-35 cm from the division. Knit 1 round and increase 6-6-8-6-8-8 stitches evenly spaced = 44-44-48-48-52-52 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm and work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 2½-2½-2½-3½-3½-3½ cm, then work 2 rounds of rib in colour cranberry. Cast off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 17-23-27-31-35-39 cm from the division. Work the other sleeve in the same way. |
