I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. The shape doesn’t look right but maybe I have to go further. I finished row 17 and I’ve done a couple rows past that. I’m at 5-1/2 inches from the top of the hat. I have 90 stitches as per the pattern. I reduced my hook size because of my gauge and I have 18 sc = 4” but the shape of the hat doesn’t look right...I’d love some help. Can I give out my email address?

Dear Joanne, it's a bit difficult to help you there and finding what went wrong, please bring your work to your store (or send them a picture per mail) so that they can have a look and check together with you. Happy crocheting!

Just a tip: I had a much easier time working with the actual pattern than the written instructions for the brim.

So, the first round is 11hdc. Would you replace the first hdc here with two chains? If I do that than I really only have 10hdc.
09.07.2018 - 14:27DROPS Design answered:
Dear Johanne, on first round you start with 2 chains and crochet 10 hdc = 11 hdc. Happy crocheting!

Each hdc row starts with 2hdc in the first sc. In the crochet info it says to replace first hdc with 2 ch. Since the row starts with 2hdc are you saying that 1 of the 2 hdc should be replaced with 2 ch or are you saying that each hdc row should simply be started with 2 ch and then 2 hdc in the next sc?
09.07.2018 - 12:14DROPS Design answered:
Dear Joanne, at the beg of each round where you crochet 2 hdc, work 2 ch (= replace 1st hdc) and 1 hdc in the same st, at the end of round, crochet 1 sl st in the 2nd ch from beg of round. Happy crocheting!

I got to about 7” but this hat (my girl) was huge and wasn’t turning down. I had the 90 stitches so I’m not sure what went wrong. I purchased the drops bomull-Lin yarn and I’m using the 3.5mm crochet hook the pattern calls for. However, this yarn actually calls for a 5mm hook so I find it always catching on the 3.5 mm hook. I would still love to make the hat. Any suggestions.
29.06.2018 - 23:00DROPS Design answered:
Dear Joanne, make sure you get the right gauge, ie you should have 18 sc/hdc = 10 cm in width, remember crochet hook size is just a guide, ajdust the crochet size if your tension is too tight/too loose. Happy crocheting!

After round 5 there are 33 stitches. After round 7 there are supposed to be 44 stitches; I get 50, it doesn’t add up. What am I doing wrong?
14.05.2018 - 05:07DROPS Design answered:
Hi Jennifer, As you say, you have 33 stitches after round 5. Then you increase 1 hdc every 3rd stitch in round 7, which gives you 11 new stitches and leaves you with 44 stitches. The rounds in between the increase-rounds are worked with 1 stitch in every stitch. I hope this helps and happy crocheting!

Buon lavoro!
