Knitting tension: Remember needle size is only a guide. 14 stitches x 20 rows with 1 strand of each quality, needle size 6 mm and stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm. Rib: * K1, P2 *, repeat from *-*. Ridge/Garter stitch (back and forth on needle): 1 ridge = Knit 2 rows. Increase tip: Increase on inside of 5 edge stitches worked as described in text. Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, on next row knit yarn over twisted. All increases are worked from right side. --------------------------------------------------------- Back piece: Loosely cast on 54-60-66-72-81 stitches (incl. 1 edge stitch in each side) with needle size 5 mm and 1 strand of each quality (= 3 strands). Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work rib with1 edge stitch and 1 knitted stitch in each side. When piece measures 2 cm change to needle size 6 mm and continue with stocking stitch - at the same time on the first row after the rib adjust the number of stitches to 54-60-66-74-82 stitches. Remember the knitting tension! When piece measures 10 cm increase 1 stitch in each side every 10 cm a total of 3 times = 60-66-72-80-88 stitches. When piece measures 35-36-37-38-39 cm decrease for armholes in each side every 2nd row: 3 stitches 1 times, 2 stitches 0-1-2-2-3 times and 1 stitch 2-2-2-5-6 times = 50-52-54-56-58 stitches. When piece measures 52-54-56-58-60 cm, cast off the middle 18-18-18-20-20 stitches for neck. Then decrease 1 stitch on next row towards neck = 15-16-17-17-18 stitches left on each shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 54-56-58-60-62 cm. Right front piece: Loosely cast on 33-36-39-42-45 stitches (incl. 1 edge stitch in the side and 5 band stitches towards mid front) with needle size 5 mm and 1 strand of each quality (= 3 strands). Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work rib as follows from mid front: 1 stitch garter stitch, K1,P1, K1, P1, * K1, P2 *, repeat from *-* and finish with 1 edge stitch. When piece measures 2 cm, change to needle size 6 mm. Work the next row as follows from mid front (seen from the right side): 1 stitch garter stitch, K1, P1, K1, P6 and then knit the remaining stitches. At the same time, adjust the number of stitches to 31-34-37-41-45 stitches on first row after rib - NOTE: Do not adjust over the 10 outermost stitches towards mid front. Continue in this way upwards with knit over knit and purl over purl. Read the whole of the next section before continuing. Side increases: When piece measures 10 cm increase 1 stitch in the side every 10 cm a total of 3 times. Lapel: At the same time, when piece measures 24-25-26-27-28 cm increase towards mid front every 3 cm - see Increase tip: 1 stitch 8 times - the increased stitches are purled seen from the right side. Armhole: At the same time, when piece measures 35-36-37-38-39 cm decrease for armhole as for back piece. Neckline: When piece measures 46-47-49-50-52 cm cast off the 18 stitches towards mid front for neck. Then decrease towards neck every 2nd row: 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 2-2-2-3-3 times. After all increases and decreases there are 15-16-17-17-18 stitches left on needle. Cast off when piece measures 54-56-58-60-62 cm. Left front piece: Cast on and work as for right, but reversed. Sleeve: Loosely cast on 29-32-35-41-41 stitches (incl. 1 edge stitch in each side) with needle size 5 mm and 1 strand of each quality (= 3 strands). Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work 2 rows rib with 1 edge stitch in each side. Change to needle size 6 mm and continue with stocking stitch. At the same time, on the first row after the rib, adjust the number of stitches to 31-34-37-41-41 stitches. When piece measures 4 cm increase 1 stitch in each side every 5-5-4.5-4.5-3.5 cm a total of 9-9-10-10-12 times = 49-52-57-61-65 stitches. When sleeve measures 50-49-48-48-46 cm decrease for sleeve cap in each side every 2nd row: 3 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 1-2-3-4-6 times, then 2 stitches in each side until piece measures 56-56-56-57-57 cm, finally 3 stitches 1 time in each side. Cast off the remaining stitches, piece measures approx. 57-57-57-58-58 cm. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Crochet edge: Work lobster stitch (lobster stitch is worked in the same way as double crochets but from left to right) along the band, lapel and back of neck with hook size 6 mm and 1 strand of each quality (= 3 strands). Crochet button loops: Work 2-3 button loops at top of right band with hook size 6 mm and 1 strand of each quality (= 3 strands) as follows: 1 double crochet in stitch, 5 chain stitches, fasten with 1 double crochet approx. 2 cm lower down, turn and work 6 double crochets around the chain-space, finish with 1 slip stitch in first double crochet from previous row. Crochet button: Work 2 chain stitches with hook size 6 mm and 1 strand of each quality (= 3 strands). Round 1: Work 6 double crochets in 2nd chain stitch from hook and finish with 1 slip stitch in first double crochet at beginning of round. Round 2: 1 chain stitch, then work 2 double crochets in each double crochet, finish with 1 slip stitch in first double crochet at beginning of round (= 12 double crochets). Round 3: 1 chain stitch, then work 1 double crochet in each stitch, finish with 1 slip stitch in first double crochet at beginning of round (= 12 double crochets). Round 4: 1 chain stitch, then work 1 double crochet in every other double crochet, finish with 1 slip stitch in first double crochet at beginning of round (= 6 double crochets). Put the button in the crochet cover, tack around the opening and pull tight. Sew in sleeves. Sew sleeve and side seams in one go inside the 1 edge stitch. Sew on the buttons. Sew the small button onto the back of the right front piece, in transition between lapel and neckline, so that the left lapel is held in place. |
