Bon tricot!

Can this be knitted in two pieces front and back
09.04.2026 - 05:39DROPS Design answered:
Hi Debbie, In the pattern, the body is worked in the round, then divided at the armholes and the front and back pieces are worked separately, back and forth. However, the body can also be worked in 2 sections if you wish, and the vest sewn together to finish. Regards, Drops Team.

Buon lavoro!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.6. The diagrams show the pattern from the right side. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is worked in the round bottom up as far as the armholes, then divided for the front and back pieces which are finished separately. Stitches are knitted up around the armholes and neckline and worked in rib to finish BODY: Cast on 190-202-220-236-256-278-294 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Alaska or DROPS Big Merino. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 3 to 3 ½ cm. The stitch count is now adjusted and pattern is worked as follows: Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Work A.1 across the first 19-23-27-31-37-41-45 stitches, decreasing 3-3-3-3-5-5-5 stitches evenly spaced (A.1 now 16-20-24-28-32-36-40 stitches), work A.2, then A.3, increasing 1 stitch so you have 8 stitches for the cable, work A.2, then A.4 increasing 2 stitches so you have 8 stitches for the cable, work A.2, then A.5 across the next 7 stitches increasing 1 stitch, work A.2, then A.6 across the last 106-114-128-140-154-172-184 stitches decreasing 9-9-11-11-13-15-15 stitches evenly spaced (A.6 now 97-105-117-129-141-157-169 stitches) = 182-194-210-226-242-262-278 stitches. The first 101-109-117-125-133-141-149 stitches = front piece, the last 81-85-93-101-109-121-129 stitches = back piece. Continue the pattern. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the piece measures 30-31-32-33-34-35-36 cm with the next round an odd row in the pattern (so you cable from the right side when working back and forth), divide for the armholes as follows. DIVIDE FOR ARMHOLES: Cast off the first 3 stitches, work the next 95-103-111-119-127-135-143 stitches, cast off 6 stitches, work the next 75-79-87-95-103-115-123 stitches, cast off the last 3 stitches. Cut the strand. The front and back pieces are finished separately, back and forth. BACK PIECE: = 75-79-87-95-103-115-123 stitches. Continue the pattern back and forth. Cast off for the armholes every 2nd row as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 2-2-3-3-4-5-6 times on each side, then 1 stitch 1-1-2-4-4-6-7 times on each side = 65-69-71-75-79-83-85 stitches. When the piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm, cast off the 23-23-25-25-27-29-29 stitches for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDERS: Continue the pattern as before. Cast off 1 stitch for the neckline on the 2nd row = 20-22-22-24-25-26-27 shoulder-stitches. Cast off when the piece measures 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm. FRONT PIECE: = 95-103-111-119-127-135-143 stitches. Continue the pattern back and forth. Cast off for the armholes every 2nd row as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 2-2-3-3-4-5-6 times on each side, then 1 stitch 1-1-2-4-4-6-7 times on each side = 85-93-95-99-103-103-105 stitches. When the piece measures 44-46-48-49-51-53-55 cm, place the middle 21-25-25-25-27-27-27 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDERS: Continue the pattern (the stitches which do not fit into a cable are knitted above knit and purled above purl). Cast off for the neck every 2nd row: Cast off 3 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 3 times = 22-24-25-27-28-28-29 shoulder-stitches. When the piece measures 51-53-55-57-59-61-63 cm decrease 2-2-3-3-3-2-2 stitches evenly on the row = 20-22-22-24-25-26-27 shoulder-stitches. Cast off when the piece measures 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams. SLEEVE-EDGES: Knit up 84-88-92-96-100-104-108 stitches around the armhole with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Alaska/Big Merino. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 3 to 3 ½ cm. Cast off with rib. NECK: Knit up approx. 78 to 98 stitches around the neckline (the stitch count must be an even number), with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Alaska/Big Merino. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 3 to 3 ½ cm. Cast off with rib.. |
