Thank you very much for this beautiful pattern! I am knitting a size M and I worked with 115 stitches on the neck part. When I follow the instructions in order to insert the markers for the raglan increases, the numbers don't fit. I inserted a marker after 22, then 19, the 29, then 19 and then I should have 22 stitches, but I have 26. Could you help me please? Thank you very much!

Dear Roberta, remember that the markers are inserted inside stitches, not in between stitches. So you should count the stitches with the markers as well. 22 stitches (= left front piece), 1 stitch with marker, 19 stitches (= sleeve), 1 stitch with marker, 29 stitches (= back piece), 1 stitch with marker, 19 stitches (= sleeve), 1 stitch with marker. There are 22 stitches left after the last marker (= right front piece). That is: 22+1+19+1+29+1+19+1 = 93 sts. 115 sts +93 sts = 22 remaining sts. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH: Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 4 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Work until there are 6 stitches left on the row, work 4 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. The diagrams show the pattern from the right side. The diagrams are read from right to left when working from the right side and left to right when working from the wrong side. RAGLAN: All increases are worked from the right side! Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next row from the wrong side: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the left): Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). Continue the new stitches in stocking stitch. AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn over from the left needle to the right needle purl-wise, then replace it by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is the other way round). Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). Continue the new stitches in stocking stitch. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knitting the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck is finished. Then work the other 6-6-6-6-7-7-7 buttonholes with 6-6½-6½-7-6-6½-6½ cm between each one. The bottom buttonhole is worked in the transition between the stocking stitch and rib. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. NECK: Cast on 107-109-115-117-123-125-131 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Air. Work the first row from the right side as follows: 6 stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, work rib (knit 1 and purl 1) until there are 7 stitches left, knit 1 and work 6 band-stitches with I-cord. Continue this rib for 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm. Insert 1 marker inside one band (mid-front), the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Insert 4 markers as follows, without working the stitches and inserting each marker in a stitch (raglan-stitches). You increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches. Count 20-20-22-22-24-24-26 stitches (= left front piece), insert 1 marker in the next stitch, count 19 stitches (= sleeve), insert 1 marker in the next stitch, count 25-27-29-31-33-35-37 stitches (= back piece), insert 1 marker in the next stitch, count 19 stitches (= sleeve), insert 1 marker in the next stitch. There are 20-20-22-22-24-24-26 stitches left after the last marker (= right front piece). Now work pattern on the sleeves, stocking stitch on the front and back pieces and continue the bands on each side. On the first row begin increasing for raglan and begin the pattern on the sleeves; read the next 2 sections before continuing. PATTERN: Work pattern across the middle stitches on each sleeve as follows: Knit 5, work A.1, knit 5. On the first row in A.1, 7 stitches are increased on each sleeve. When A.1 is finished in height, work A.2 above A.1. RAGLAN: ROW 1 (right side): Work bands, stocking stitch and pattern, increasing for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan-stitches – read explanation above for how to increase (8 increased stitches). ROW 2 (wrong side): Work bands, stocking stitch and pattern (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 3-1-6-7-6-5-5 times (6-2-12-14-12-10-10 rows worked) = 145-131-177-187-185-179-185 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Continue increasing for raglan as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work bands, stocking stitch and pattern, increasing for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches). ROW 2 (wrong side): Work bands, stocking stitch and pattern (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). ROW 3 (right side): Work bands, stocking stitch and pattern, increasing for raglan only on the front and back pieces, i.e., increase before markers 1 and 3 and after markers 2 and 4; do not increase across the sleeves (4 increased stitches). ROW 4 (wrong side): Work bands, stocking stitch and pattern. Work ROWS 1 to 4 a total of 10-12-10-11-13-15-16 times (40-48-40-44-52-60-64 rows worked: 10-12-10-11-13-15-16 increases in height on the sleeves and 20-24-20-22-26-30-32 increases in height on the front and back pieces = 265-275-297-319-341-359-377 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished; a total of 23-25-26-29-32-35-37 increases in height on the front and back pieces and 13-13-16-18-19-20-21 increases in height on the sleeves. Continue with bands, stocking stitch and pattern as before, without further increases, until the yoke measures 21-23-24-27-29-32-34 cm from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work 44-46-49-52-57-60-64 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 52-52-58-62-64-66-68 stitches on a thread/stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-20 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 73-79-83-91-99-107-113 stitches as before (= back piece), place the next 52-52-58-62-64-66-68 stitches on a thread/stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-20 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 44-46-49-52-57-60-64 stitches as before (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 181-195-209-227-249-267-281 stitches. Continue the bands and stocking stitch until the piece measures 41-43-45-47-48-50-52 cm from the marker mid-front. On the next row from the right side, begin the rib as follows, AT THE SAME TIME increase 18-20-20-22-24-26-28 stitches evenly on the row (do not increase across the bands) = 199-215-229-249-273-293-309 stitches: Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm, work the band as before, then rib (knit 1 and purl 1 – remember the increases) until there are 7 stitches left, knit 1 and work the band as before. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with knit above knit and purl above purl. The jacket measures approx. 45-47-49-51-53-55-57 cm from the marker mid-front and 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 52-52-58-62-64-66-68 sleeve-stitches from one thread/stitch holder onto circular needle size 5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-20 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 62-64-72-78-82-86-88 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the new stitches under the sleeve. Work stocking stitch and pattern in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 cm, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 2 times every 2nd round, then 2 stitches 2-2-5-7-8-9-9 times every 4-4-4-3½-3-2½-2½ cm = 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 41-39-39-36-34-31-29 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 8-8-8-10-10-10-10 stitches evenly on the first round = 62-64-66-70-72-74-76 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 45-43-43-40-39-36-34 cm from the division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
