------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. MOSS STITCH (worked back and forth): ROW 1: * Knit 1. purl 1 *, work from *-*. ROW 2: Knit over purl and purl over knit. Repeat row 2 onwards. MOSS STITCH (worked in the round): ROUND 1: * Kit 1, purl 1 *, work from *-*. ROUND 2: Knit over purl and purl over knit. Repeat round 2 onwards. INCREASE TIP: Increase to the left AFTER marker/3 stitches: Use left needle to pick up thread between 2 stitches from row below, pick up thread from front and knit stitch in back loop. Increase to the right BEFORE marker/3 stitches: Use left needle to pick up thread between 2 stitches from row below, pick up thread from behind and knit stitch in front loop. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The top of the back piece is worked back and forth with circular needle until the armholes are finished. Stitches are knitted up along each shoulder and increased for neck and the front piece worked back and forth with circular needle until the armholes are finished. The front and back pieces are joined and the body worked in the round with circular needle. Stitches are knitted up around the armholes, the sleeve cap is worked back and forth before finishing the sleeve in the round with double pointed needles/circular needle. The neck is worked in the round to finish. Jumper is worked with moss stitch (except for the ribbing edge and the 3 stitches in stocking stitch on back piece). BACK PIECE: Cast on 22-22-22-24-24-28 stitches with circular needle size 8 mm and 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Insert 1 marker inside the 3 outermost stitches on each side. Keep the markers in this position every row onwards. Work MOSS STITCH back and forth – read description above, with the outermost 3 stitches on each side worked in stocking stitch. AT THE SAME TIME increase AFTER the marker at the beginning of the row (from the right side) and BEFORE the marker at the end of the row – read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this on each row from the right side 18-20-22-22-24-24 times = 58-62-66-68-72-76 stitches. The piece is now measured from here! Continue with moss stitch over all stitches for a further 12-13-13-14-15-16 cm, measured along the armhole and finishing after a row from the wrong side. Cut the strand. FRONT PIECE: Start with left shoulder (when the garment is worn). Knit up 18-20-22-22-24-24 stitches inside the outermost stitches along the left back shoulder, with 1 stitch in every second row. Work moss stitch back and forth for 7 cm. Increase for the neckline at the beginning of each row from the right side as described above, after the 3 stitches (increase only from right side). Increase 1 stitch 4 times = 22-24-26-26-28-28 stitches. Work back from the wrong side, cut the strand and work the right front shoulder as follows: Knit up 18-20-22-22-24-24 stitches inside the outermost stitch along the right back shoulder. Work moss stitch back and forth for 7 cm. Increase for the neckline at the end of each row from the right side as described above, before the 3 stitches (increase only from right side). Increase 1 stitch 4 times = 22-24-26-26-28-28 stitches. Work back from the wrong side. Work the next row as follows from the right side: Moss stitch over the 22-24-26-26-28-28 stitches on the right front piece, cast on 14-14-14-16-16-20 stitches for the neckline, moss stitch over the 22-24-26-26-28-28 stitches from the left front piece = 58-62-66-68-72-76 stitches. Work moss stitch back and forth until the piece measures 26-27-29-30-31-32 cm, measured along the armhole. Finish after a row from the wrong side. Now join the back and front pieces. BODY: Work moss stitch over the 58-62-66-68-72-76 stitches from the front piece, cast on 4-4-4-8-10-14 stitches (under the sleeve), work moss stitch over the 58-62-66-68-72-76 stitches from the back piece, cast on 4-4-4-8-10-14 stitches = 124-132-140-152-164-180 stitches. Work MOSS STITCH in the round until the piece measures 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm, from the top front shoulder. Now divide for the split in each side. Place the 62-66-70-76-82-90 stitches from the front piece on a stitch holder and work the back piece. BACK PIECE: Change to circular needle size 7 mm. Knit 1 row from the right side and increase 10-10-14-12-14-14 stitches evenly spaced = 72-76-84-88-96-104 stitches. Work as follows from the wrong side: 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH – read description above, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left, purl 2 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Work this rib back and forth for 10 cm. Cast off. The jumper measures approx. 58-60-62-64-66-68 cm, measured from the top front shoulder. FRONT PIECE: Place the stitches on circular needle size 7 mm and work in the same way as the back piece. LEFT SLEEVE: Using circular needle size 8 mm, knit up from the right side 29-30-32-33-34-36 stitches from the bottom of the armhole and up the front piece to the shoulder, then 13-14-14-15-16-16 stitches from the shoulder down the back piece = 42-44-46-48-50-52 stitches. Work moss stitch back and forth for 2-2-2-4-5-6 cm. Now join the sleeve using short circular needle/double pointed needles size 8 mm and work in the round. Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round. Allow the thread to follow your work onwards. Start at the marker thread and continue moss stitch in the round until the sleeve measures 4-4-4-5-5-7 cm from the knitted-up stitches. Decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 8 cm, 3 more times = 34-36-38-40-42-44 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 36-35-34-34-34-33 cm. There is 10 cm left; try the jumper on and work to desired length before the rib. Knit 1 round and increase 6-8-6-8-6-8 stitches evenly spaced = 40-44-44-48-48-52 stitches. Change to circular needle size 7 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 10 cm. Cast off a little loosely. The sleeve measures approx. 46-45-44-44-44-43 cm. RIGHT SLEEVE: Work the right sleeve in the same way but knit up stitches in reverse, i.e., knit up 13-14-14-15-16-16 stitches from the bottom of the armhole up the back piece, then 29-30-32-33-34-36 stitches from the shoulder down the front piece. Sew the openings at the bottom of the armholes – see sketch. NECK: Start on one shoulder and knit up from the right side, inside 1 edge stitch, 60 to 76 stitches around the neckline, with short circular needle size 7 mm. The stitch count must be divisible by 4. Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 14 cm. Cast off a little loosely. |
