------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The diagram shows the pattern from the right side. INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. The new stitches are worked into A.1 on the next row. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. The new stitches are worked into A.1 on the next row. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. The new stitches are worked into A.1 on the next row. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. The new stitches are worked into A.1 on the next row. KNITTING TIP (for bands and sleeves): When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve by knitting 3 together; adjust so the decreases fit into the pattern and follow the marker-thread approx. mid-under the sleeve. NOTE: When working moss stitch in the round it is normal for the texture to twist slightly as you continue onwards. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The 2 bands are worked first (back of neck), then stitches are knitted up along the band and the back piece is worked top down while increasing stitches on each side for the shoulders, until the correct stitch count is achieved. The back piece has slightly diagonal shoulders It is continued as far as the armholes. The front pieces are worked by knitting up stitches along one back shoulder, with the band-stitches placed on the same needle, and working top down to the armholes while increasing for the neckline. This is repeated on the other shoulder. After the armholes, the front and back pieces are joined and the body is continued back and forth. Stitches are knitted up around the armholes for the sleeves, which are started back and forth for the sleeve cap, then finished in the round. The belt is worked to finish. RIGHT BAND: Cast on 21-21-21-22-22-23-23 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm, 2 strands DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (3 strands). Work as follows: ROW 1 (wrong side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, knit 17-17-17-18-18-19-19, purl 1, knit 1, turn – read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (right side): Knit 9-9-9-9-9-10-10, turn. ROW 3 (wrong side): Knit 9-9-9-9-9-10-10, turn. ROW 4 (right side): Knit 19-19-19-20-20-21-21, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, turn. Work ROWS 1 to 4 until the band measures 6-7-7-7½-7½-8-8 cm, on the shorter side; finish after a row from the wrong side. AT THE SAME TIME on the last row, decrease 1 stitch by knitting together the 2 last stitches on the row = 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 band-stitches. Place the stitches on a stitch holder. LEFT BAND: Use circular needle size 5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 21-21-21-22-22-23-23 cast-on stitches on the right band, making sure to knit up carefully so the stitches are aligned. ROW 1 (wrong side): Knit 19-19-19-20-20-21-21, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, turn – remember KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (right side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, knit 17-17-17-18-18-19-19, purl 1, knit 1, turn. ROW 3 (wrong side): Knit 9-9-9-9-9-10-10, turn. ROW 4 (right side): Knit 9-9-9-9-9-10-10, turn. Work ROWS 1 to 4 until the band measures 6-7-7-7½-7½-8-8 cm, on the shorter side; finish after a row from the wrong side. AT THE SAME TIME on the last row, decrease 1 stitch by purling twisted together the 2 first stitches on the row = 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 band-stitches. Place the stitches on a stitch holder. The band measures a total of 12-14-14-15-15-16-16 cm. Stitches are now knitted up for the back piece along the edge of the band. BACK PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth. Use circular needle size 5 mm, 2 strands DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (3 strands). Knit up 23-25-25-27-27-29-29 stitches along the garter-stitch edge of the band, working from the right side and inside 1 stitch. Make sure you have equal numbers of stitches on each side of the seam mid-back (do not work across the 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 stitches on the holders). ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl. ROW 2 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work A.1 until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2. Purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the right, work A.1 until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl 3. AFTER ROW 3: Work ROWS 2 and 3 a total of 11-11-12-13-14-14-15 times (22-22-24-26-28-28-30 rows worked) = 67-69-73-79-83-85-89 stitches. Insert 1 marker outermost on one side; the piece is now measured from here! Continue with 3 edge stitches in stocking stitch and pattern A.1 – remember to maintain the knitting tension - until the piece measures 8-9-9-9-8-5-3 cm from the marker, down the armhole, and finishing after a row from the wrong side. Now increase for the armholes. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLES: Note on which row in A.1 the increases begin so they are matched on the front pieces. ROW 1 (right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 1, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work A.1 until there is 1 stitch left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl 1, work A.1 until there is 1 stitch left on the row, purl 1. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 4-4-6-6-8-12-14 times (8-8-12-12-16-24-28 rows worked) = 75-77-85-91-99-109-117 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 12-13-14-14-15-16-16 cm, from the marker and down the armhole, finishing after a row from the wrong side. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. Work the left front piece along the left back shoulder as follows. LEFT SHOULDER: Find the left back shoulder as follows: Lay the back piece flat, right side up, with the stitch holder/thread towards you; left side of piece = left shoulder. Start with the left band and work the 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 band-stitches as follows: Slip 1 purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, work 17-17-17-18-18-19-19 stitches in garter stitch, 1 stitch in stocking stitch, then from the neck on the left back shoulder, knit up 1 stitch in each row worked along the shoulder, inside the outermost stitch as far as the armhole (22-22-24-26-28-28-30 stitches), finally knit up 1 stitch outermost on the shoulder = 43-43-45-48-50-51-53 stitches. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this knitted-up row. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl until there are 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 stitches left, work the band-stitches as follows: 1 stocking stitch, 17-17-17-18-18-19-19 garter stitches, slip 1 purl-wise with the strand in front and knit 1. ROW 2 (right side): Work the band-stitches as before, then work A.1 to the end of the row. ROW 3 (wrong side): Continue A.1 until there are 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 stitches left, work the band-stitches as before. Repeat ROWS 2 and 3 until the piece measures 10-11-12-12-13-13-15 cm. OVERVIEW OF THE NEXT SECTION: You now increase for the V-neck and subsequently increase for the armhole. The increases for the armhole begin before the increases for the V-neck are finished. Read the next 2 sections before continuing so you know when to begin the increases for the armhole. INCREASE FOR V-NECK: ROW 1 (right side): Work the band-stitches as before, increase 1 stitch towards the left – remember INCREASE TIP-1, work A.1 to end of row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Continue A.1 until there are 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 stitches left, work the band-stitches as before. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 4-4-4-4-4-5-5 times (8-8-8-8-8-10-10 rows worked). Now increase as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work the band-stitches as before, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work A.1 to end of row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Continue A.1 until there are 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 stitches left, work the band-stitches as before. ROW 3 (right side): Work the band-stitches as before, work A.1 to end of row. ROW 4 (wrong side): Continue A.1 until there are 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 stitches left, work the band-stitches as before. Work ROWS 1 to 4 a total of 7-7-7-8-8-8-8 times (28-28-28-32-32-32-32 rows worked). You have increased a total of 11-11-11-12-12-13-13 times for the V-neck. Continue working A.1 and the 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 band-stitches as before. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLE: When the piece measures 22-23-23-25-24-21-21 cm from the knitted-up row, with the next row the noted-row on the back piece, increase as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work the band-stitches as before, then A.1 until there is 1 stitch left, increase 1 stitch towards the right – REMEMBER INCREASE TIP-1, and knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl 1, work A.1 until there are 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 stitches left, work the band-stitches as before. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 4-4-6-6-8-12-14 times (8-8-12-12-16-24-28 rows worked). When all the increases for the V-neck and armhole are finished, there are 58-58-62-66-70-76-80 stitches. Continue working the bands and A.1 until the piece measures 26-27-28-30-31-32-34 cm from the knitted-up row, finishing after a row from the wrong side (the same row as on the back piece). Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. Work the right shoulder along the right back shoulder as follows. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Start from the right side by the armhole on the right back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch outermost on the shoulder, then knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside 1 stitch as far as the neck (22-22-24-26-28-28-30 stitches), finally work across the 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 right band-stitches as follows: work 1 stocking stitch, 17-17-17-18-18-19-19 garter stitches, slip 1 purl-wise with the strand in front, and knit 1 = 43-43-45-48-50-51-53 stitches. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this knitted up row. ROW 1 (wrong side): Work the 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 stitches as follows: Slip 1 purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, work 17-17-17-18-18-19-19 garter stitches, 1 stocking stitch, purl to end of row. ROW 2 (right side): Work A.1 until there are 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 stitches left, work the band-stitches as before. ROW 3 (wrong side): Work the band-stitches as before, work A.1 to end of row. Work ROWS 2 and 3 until the piece measures 10-11-12-12-13-13-15 cm. OVERVIEW OF THE NEXT SECTION: You now increase for the V-neck and subsequently increase for the armhole. The increases for the armhole begin before the increases for the V-neck are finished. Read the next 2 sections before continuing so you know when to begin the increases for the armhole. INCREASE FOR V-NECK: ROW 1 (right side): Continue A.1 until there are 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 stitches left, increase 1 stitch towards the right, work the band-stitches as before. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 band-stitches, then A.1 to end of row. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 4-4-4-4-4-5-5 times (8-8-8-8-8-10-10 rows worked). Now increase as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Continue A.1 until there are 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 stitches left, increase 1 stitch towards the right, work the band-stitches as before. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band-stitches as before, then A.1 to end of row. ROW 3 (right side): Continue A.1 until there are 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 stitches left, work the band-stitches as before. ROW 4 (wrong side): Work the band-stitches as before, then A.1 to end of row. Work ROWS 1 to 4 a total of 7-7-7-8-8-8-8 times (28-28-28-32-32-32-32 rows worked). You have increased a total of 11-11-11-12-12-13-13 times for the V-neck. Continue A.1 and the 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 band-stitches. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLE: When the piece measures 22-23-23-25-24-21-21 cm from the knitted-up row, with the next row the noted-row on the back piece, increase as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit 1, increase 1 stitch towards the left – remember INCREASE TIP-1, work A.1 until there are 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 stitches left, work the band-stitches as before. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band-stitches as before and work A.1 until there is 1 stitch left on the row and purl 1. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 4-4-6-6-8-12-14 times (8-8-12-12-16-24-28 rows worked). When all the increases for the V-neck and armhole are finished, there are 58-58-62-66-70-76-80 stitches. Continue working the bands and A.1 until the piece measures 26-27-28-30-31-32-34 cm from the knitted-up row, finishing after a row from the wrong side (the same row as on the back piece and the left front piece). The front and back pieces are now joined for the body. BODY: From the wrong side: Work as before across the 58-58-62-66-70-76-80 stitches on the right front piece (20-20-20-21-21-22-22 band-stitches + A.1), cast on 6-6-6-8-8-10-10 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work across the 75-77-85-91-99-107-117 stitches on the back piece, cast on 6-6-6-8-8-10-10 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work as before across the 58-58-62-66-70-76-80 stitches on the left front piece (A.1 + 20-20-20-21-21-22-22 band-stitches) = 203-205-221-239-255-281-297 stitches. Continue back and forth with A.1 and the band-stitches each side. NOTE! The new stitches under the sleeve are worked into A.1; if these stitches do not match the pattern on the front and back pieces, adjust by decreasing 1 stitch so the pattern fits. The 3 stocking stitches on each side of the back piece are also worked in moss stitch. Work until the piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from the cast-on edge mid-back, finishing in the middle of A.1. Cast off slightly loosely with knit above knit and purl above purl. The jacket measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from mid-back and 56-58-60-62-64-66-68 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: The sleeve is worked top down. Lay the piece flat and insert 1 marker at the top of the armhole. NOTE: This is not the same as the knitted-up row on the front piece but a few cms down the front piece. Use a smaller needle size to knit up stitches and also when working the sleeve cap back and forth if the weave is loose. KNIT UP STITCHES AS FOLLOWS: Start in the middle of the cast-on stitches under the sleeve and knit up 68-72-74-80-84-88-92 stitches around the armhole, with equal numbers of stitches on both sides of the marker. SLEEVE CAP: Work A.1 back and forth with short rows for the sleeve cap (to give the sleeve a better fit), starting from mid-under the sleeve as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work A.1 to 8-8-9-9-10-10-11 stitches past the marker on top of the sleeve, turn – read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work A.1 across 16-16-18-18-20-20-22 stitches, turn. ROW 3 (right side): Work A.1 to 1 stitch past the previous turn, turn. ROW 4 (wrong side): Work A.1 to 1 stitch past the previous turn, turn Repeat ROWS 3 and 4 until you have turned a total of 22-26-26-28-32-38-42 times (11-13-13-14-16-19-21 times each side. The last time you work row-4, you work across 36-40-42-44-50-56-62 stitches from the wrong side). AFTER THE LAST TURN: Turn and work A.1 back from the right side to the beginning of the round (mid-under the sleeve). Insert 1 marker-thread here; it is used when decreasing under the sleeve. Allow it to follow your work onwards. SLEEVE CONTINUED: Work A.1 in the round; across the first and last 16-16-16-18-17-16-15 stitches on the round this is the first round of moss stitch, whereas the pattern is well established across the sleeve cap, i.e., the pattern on the first and last 16-16-16-18-17-16-15 stitches does not necessarily match the other stitches on the round. Count back and begin the moss stitch so it fits the established pattern on the sleeve cap. AT THE SAME TIME after 1 round, decrease stitches mid-under the sleeve - read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 times every 2nd round, then decrease 2 stitches 6-6-6-7-7-7-8 times every 2 cm = 52-56-58-60-64-68-70 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 55 cm in all sizes from the shoulder, adjusting so you finish in the middle of A.1. Cast off slightly loosely with knit above knit and purl above purl. BELT: Cast on 13 stitches with needle size 5 mm, 2 strands DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (3 strands) Work as follows on all rows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, work A.1 across 9 stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. The belt should be approx. 6 cm in width. Repeat this row until the belt measures 160-165-170-175-180-185-190 cm or to desired length. Cut and fasten the strand. |
