------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN: Increase for raglan as follows: INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT BEFORE MARKER: Make 1 yarn over the right needle by taking the strand from the back and in front of the needle. On the next round knit the front loop of the yarn over. Then work the new stitch in stocking stitch. INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT AFTER MARKER: Make 1 yarn over the right needle by taking the strand in front of the needle and backwards. On the next round knit the yarn over twisted through the back loop. Then work the new stitch in stocking stitch. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Work 6-6-6½-6½-6½-7 cm stocking stitch between each repeat of the pattern as described below. NOTE: At the same time as you work the pattern, continue increasing for raglan. ROUND 1: Knit the raglan-stitch (with marker-1), work A.1 until there is 1 stitch left before the next raglan-stitch (with marker-2), knit 1, knit the raglan-stitch, work A.1 until there is 1 stitch left before the next raglan-stitch (with marker-3), knit 1, knit the raglan-stitch, work A.1 until there is 1 stitch left before the next raglan-stitch (with marker-4), knit 1, knit the raglan-stitch, work A.1 until there is 1 stitch left on the round, knit 1. ROUND 2: Knit. INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 178 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 40) = 4.5. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately each 4th and 5th stitch. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve you can be left with small holes in the transitions between body and sleeve. These holes can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and knitting it twisted together with the next stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down, from the right back shoulder. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. NECK: Cast on 96-100-104-112-112-116 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm and DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk. Change to circular needle size 3 mm (casting on with a larger needle makes the cast-on edge elastic). Knit 5 rounds, then work 3 rounds of rib (knit 1, purl 1). Continue with stocking stitch until the neck measures 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm from the cast-on edge. The beginning of the round is back, right shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 32-33-34-38-38-39 stitches (approx. mid-front); the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Without working the stitches, insert 4 markers in stitches (raglan-stitches which are subsequently worked in stocking stitch), as follows. Insert marker-1 in the first stitch, count 15-15-15-19-19-19 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 31-33-35-35-35-37 stitches (= front piece), Insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 15-15-15-19-19-19 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-4 in the next stitch, there are 31-33-35-35-35-37 stitches left after the last marker (= back piece). INFORMATION BEFORE YOU CONTINUE: You now work stocking stitch and increase for RAGLAN – read description above. AT THE SAME TIME, after you have worked 6-6-6½-6½-6½-7 cm stocking stitch you work PATTERN – read description above. RAGLAN: ROUND 1: Work stocking stitch (or pattern), increasing for raglan on each side of the 4 raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches) – NOTE: At the beginning of the round increase after raglan-stitch-1 and at the end of the round increase before raglan-stitch-1. ROUND 2: Knit. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 10-11-9-11-12-16 times (= 20-22-18-22-24-32 rounds worked) = 176-188-176-200-208-244 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Continue increasing as follows: ROUND 1: Work stocking stitch (or pattern), increasing for raglan on each side of the 4 raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Knit. ROUND 3: Work stocking stitch (or pattern), increasing for raglan on the front and back pieces only, i.e., after raglan-stitches 2 and 4, before raglan-stitches 3 and 1 (= 4 increased stitches). ROUND 4: Knit. Work ROUNDS 1 to 4, a total of 6-6-8-7-8-7 times (= 24-24-32-28-32-28 rounds worked and you have increased 6-6-8-7-8-7 times on the sleeves, 12-12-16-14-16-14 times on the front and back pieces) = 248-260-272-284-304-328 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished, you have increased a total of 16-17-17-18-20-23 times on the sleeves, 22-23-25-25-28-30 times on the front and back pieces. The yoke measures approx. 20-21-23-23-25-27 cm from the marker mid-front. If the yoke is shorter than this, continue working stocking stitch and pattern to the correct length. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work 3-3-3-4-4-6 stitches as before (these stitches are part of the back piece), place the next 43-45-45-49-53-55 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-10-12-16-18-20 stitches (under the sleeve), work 81-85-91-93-99-109 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 43-45-45-49-53-55 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-10-12-16-18-20 stitches (under the sleeve), work the last 78-82-88-89-95-103 stitches as before (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 178-190-206-218-234-258 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 8-10-12-16-18-20 cast-on stitches under 1 sleeve. Work to this marker; the round now starts here. Continue with stocking stitch and pattern in the round, but when working pattern, work A.1 across all stitches of the round. NOTE: When you have worked 6 stripes of pattern, continue with stocking stitch until the piece measures 48-51-52-53-54-56 cm from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), increasing 40-46-50-50-56-58 stitches evenly on the first round – read INCREASE TIP = 218-236-256-268-290-316 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-5-5-6-6 cm, cast off a little loosely. The jumper measures approx. 52-55-57-58-60-62 cm from the marker mid-front and 57-60-62-64-66-68 cm from top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 43-45-45-49-53-55 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-10-12-16-18-20 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read KNITTING TIP = 51-55-57-65-71-75 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 8-10-12-16-18-20 stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and continue pattern and stocking stitch from the yoke, working in the round –make sure to work the same number of rounds of stocking stitch between each time A.1 is worked as on the yoke/body. When the sleeve measures 2 cm, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2-2-2-1½-1½-1½ cm a total of 3-4-4-7-9-10 times = 45-47-49-51-53-55 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 40-40-37-38-36-34 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 7 stitches evenly on the first round = 52-54-56-58-60-62 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-5-5-6-6 cm, cast off a little loosely. The sleeve measures approx. 44-44-42-43-42-40 cm from the division. |
